Sermon: School of Love: Your Brother s Keeper Scott Gronholz Texts: 1 John 3:11-20 (p.990) 11 For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We must not be like Cain who was from the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. 13 Do not be astonished, brothers and sisters, that the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life because we love one another. The Bible teaches us that God is love and that the central purpose of our lives is to love. It's not hard to agree with the greatness of love. It's just that it is hard to really do. We don't need sentimentality or moralizing. We need help. The good news is that Jesus is our help and the good news of Jesus unlocks our hearts not just to love him but to love with him. So what can we learn from the apostle of love if we sit at his feet and learn what he has to teach us? How can believers live in intentional community designed to retrain our hearts in gospel love?
