Sheep need a significant amount of leading and guidance to find their way home, even to locate enough food and water to make it through the day. Sheep are a prey species whose primary defense mechanism is to flee from danger. Can you imagine dynamics of herd hysteria when Angelic visitors pierced the night sky over Bethlehem? The sheep (as well as shepherds) needed the message, Do not be afraid.

5 NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC We'll have one 10:00 am worship service shared with the men of Angola State Penitentiary in Angola, Louisiana. We'll have the opportunity to sing, pray and worship together via video link. You won't want to miss this one-of-a-kind way to experience the wonder of the Christmas story. OUR CHURCH FAMILY We extend our sympathy to the Bohringer family, as they mourn the loss of Gary s mother, Anna Bohringer, on December 9. The missionary of the month is Chris Langkamp of Lampstand Ministries. They are an urban ministry for the west-side of Chicago, serving the Lawndale, Garfield Park, Austin and Humboldt Park areas. Lampstand Ministries strives to have a life-changing impact by bringing the love of Christ to those who are looking for help. Lampstand partners with 25 different urban ministries, and coordinates 1800 volunteers a year. It s here the ECRC Family Advent Calendar and Devotional Guide The word advent means coming, and advent is the four weeks preceding Christmas in which we anticipate the coming of Christ. This season we invite you to join us for a daily reminder of the Advent season and a weekly reflection on the message. After services, join us in this opportunity to provide assistance to those in need during the Christmas Season. We ll provide ducks, cows and sheep for those in need via World Renew, socks and tuna for the inmates of Angola State Prison, rubber boots for the friends of My Brother s Kitchen in Chicago who live on the streets, and a little extra food and clothing for adults and children in our community. The children who sing with Kären Wiener will be singing by the trees at 10 am. The Single Mother Mothers Support Group (SHE) invites all single mothers and their children to a Christmas Dinner today. Registration is at 12:15 pm, and the dinner will be served at 12:30 pm. Attendees will enjoy festive music, have family photos taken, and the true meaning of Christmas will be shared. During the adult activities there is free childcare for infants-age 12. Everyone is welcome! A Christmas Tea is taking place tonight from 4:45-5:45 pm. It s an English high tea experience for the whole family you won t want to miss. Come for yummy sandwiches, tea, cookies and scones, Christmas music and fun children s table activities. The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols will be held at 6 pm tonight. This beautiful worship service tradition, begun nearly 100 years ago in Cambridge, England, tells the Christmas story through scripture readings, music from the ECRC choir and congregational singing. It s an ECRC Christmas tradition. Behold the Lamb of God The True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ is at ECRC on December 18 at 7 pm. The Broken Halos will present Andrew Peterson s amazing work that places the story of Christ s birth in the context of the whole narrative of the Bible. The evening will start with a traditional in the round session of folks presenting original music and songs of the season followed by the album in its entirety. Free concert bring your friends! Join us for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Services - A Stable Celebration, taking place on December 24 at 4 pm and 6 pm. On December 27 at 10 am we will hear our final animal Advent message. Please note: There is one service on this day. Join us for our New Year s Eve Worship at 7 pm on December 31. We ll end the year in worship with a celebration of Holy Communion in the Garden Room.
