Prelude 10:00 am Worship Service - December 27, 2015 Welcome - Peter Semeyn, Lead Pastor Choir Introit: Angels We Have Heard On High - Craig Courtney The First Noel The first Noel the angel did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay In fields where they lay keeping their sheep On a cold winter s night that was so deep Noel Noel Noel Noel; Born is the King of Israel They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far And to the earth it gave great light And so it continued both day and night And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from the country far To seek for a King was their intent And to follow the star wherever it went Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord That hath made heaven and earth of nought And with his blood mankind has bought

Lo, How a Rose Isaiah twas foretold it, the rose I have in mind With Mary we behold it, the virgin mother kind To show God s love aright She bore to us a Savior when half spent was the night This flower, so small and tender, with fragrance fills the air His brightness ends the darkness that kept the earth in fear True God and yet true man He came to save his people from earth s dark night of sin O Savior, child of Mary, who felt our human woe O savior, King of glory, who does our weakness know Bring us at length, we pray To the bright courts of heaven and into endless day Good Christian Friends, Rejoice Good Christian friends rejoice with heart and soul and voice Give ye heed to what we say; news Jesus Christ is born today Ox and ass before him bow and he is in the manger now Christ is born today, Christ is born today Good Christian friends rejoice with heart and soul and voice Now you hear of endless bliss; Jesus Christ was born for this He has opened heaven s door and we are blest for evermore Christ was born for this, Christ was born for this Good Christian friends rejoice with heart and soul and voice Now ye need not fear the grave: Jesus Christ was born to save Calls you one and calls you all to gain his everlasting hall Christ was born to save! Christ was born to save Greetings - Gregg DeMey, Director of Worship Choir Anthem: Angels Carol - John Rutter Congregational Prayer - Lisa Capozzoli, Director of Care & Community

The Friendly Beasts Jesus our brother, kind and good was humbly born in a stable rude And the friendly beasts around him stood. Jesus our brother, kind and good I, said the camel with golden neck, I bore him treasure on my back Gold and myrrh and frankincense; I, said the camel with golden neck I, said the donkey, shaggy and brown, I carried his mother uphill and down I carried his mother to Bethlehem town; I, said the donkey, shaggy and brown I, said the sheep with curly horn, I gave him my wool for his blanket warm he wore my coat on Christmas morn; I, said the sheep with curly horn I, said the cow, all white and red, I gave him my manger for his bed I gave him hay to pillow his head; I, said the cow, all white and red I, said the dove, from the rafters high, I cooed him to sleep that he should not cry We cooed him to sleep, my mate and I; I, said the dove, from the rafters high Thus all the beasts, by some good spell, in the stable dark were glad to tell Of the gifts they gave Emmanuel, the gifts they gave Emmanuel Message: Birds in Hand - Peter Semeyn, Lead Pastor Luke 2:22-24 We Are Not Fools We are not fools to give away what we cannot keep We are not fools to give away what we cannot keep So we gain what we will never lose: eternal life So we gain what we can never lose in Jesus Christ All my moments, all my dreams; are yours alone Every talent, every skill; laid before your throne Everything that bears my name: Let your Kingdom come Everything I call my own: Let your will be done Take My Life and Let It Be Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee Take my moments and my days; let them flow in endless praise

Let them flow in endless praise Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee Swift and beautiful for thee Take my voice and let me sing always, only, for my King Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee Filled with messages from thee Take my will and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine Take my heart--it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne It shall be thy royal throne Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below Praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost Blessing and Sending Postlude Organ - Jake Groenewold, Piano - Gregg DeMey, Trumpet - Jack Cassidy TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC Following the birth of a child, a Jewish woman had to wait forty days before she could go to the temple to offer a sacrifice and complete the purification rites that would restore her to cleanliness as a member of the community. The Law of Moses prescribed a sacrifice of a lamb and a pigeon to this end. If there was a lack of financial resources, then two doves were an acceptable substitute. Joseph and Mary must have had very few material resources because the two birds are what they offered. NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC God created this universe from nothing, but his creative process is not yet done. He is currently in the business of re-creating a broken, troubled world into what he originally intended it to be - perfect! Behold, I am making all things new is a promise that resounds from the final book of the Bible. As a new year dawns, we are called to reflect God s image not by self-improvement and resolve, but by joining in his redemptive,

restorative project. You are invited to read Revelation 21:1-9 to prepare for this worship service. We will resume our regular rhythm of 9:00 and 10:30 am services.
