1 DN 1.1 LEADER S GUIDE YOUNGER CHILDREN BIG PICTURE: DOCUMENT PURPOSE POSITION This document is the Leader s Guide for BIG Picture POSITION. It contains material for you to create an impacting small group time for you and your children. The BIG Draw Near User Guide document contains all the service element information, including the large group segment of your service. 2 KIDS DISCIPLESHIP GROUP (KDG) DN 1.1 BIG IDEA: DRAW NEAR LEARNING OUTCOMES: BIG POINT: GOD CREATED US TO BE CLOSE TO HIM At the conclusion of this lesson children will: Learn that God created us to be in a close relationship with Him but sin separated us. Discover that God longs to draw near to us as we draw near to Him. Know that Jesus died and rose again for our sin, so we could be in relationship with God. BIG WORD: BUT IT IS GOOD FOR ME TO DRAW NEAR TO GOD; I HAVE PUT MY TRUST IN THE LORD GOD, THAT I MAY DECLARE ALL YOUR WORKS. PSALM 73:28 (NKJV) YOUNGER CHILDREN RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 6-8 Use this KDG outline to prepare an impacting small group time for you and your children. CONNECT TIME ACTIVITY SHEETS Of all the animals God created, which is your favourite? Children complete the activity sheets in this time. THE BIG QUESTION THE BIG ACTIVITY GROUP DISCUSSION SUPPLIES NEEDED: 1. Why did God create people? Draw Near Pencils printed onto card-paper from the print material files, glue, five yellow popsicle sticks per child. 2. What seperated people from God? And how can we be close to God again? Sin separates people from God. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 (NLT), Everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God s glorious standard. Jesus died on the cross and rose again for our sin so we could be close to God again. 3. What happens when we draw near to God? Read from James 4:8. James 4:8 (NKJV), Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. God loves you, He created you and I to be close to Him. God longs to be close to each of one us. As you draw nearer to God, He will draw near to you. DIRECTIONS: Give each child a Draw Near Pencil printed from the print material files, onto card-paper. They can colour in the logo at the top of the pencil. Next give each child five yellow popsicle sticks to glue side by side to make the pencil. EXPLANATION: James 4:8 (NKJV), Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. We are positioned to approach God with boldness. Ephesians 3:12 (NIV), In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. We don t have to wait for permission from anyone. We don t need to be good enough or perfect to approach God. Through Jesus we can take steps towards God at anytime. We are created to be close to Him. DN1 YOUNGER CHILDREN 2017 Hillsong Church God created people to be close to Him. Imagine what it would have been like in the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve walking with God through the trees, together like the best of friends. God created us to be that close with Him.

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) LEADER NOTES DN 1.1 A space for you, the leader, to write notes, plans, reminders, things to follow up on or remember for next time. SUPPLIES NEEDED: Big Word Trace page printed from print material files for each child, pencils. Give each child a Big Word Trace page, they can trace the words of the big word. Repeat the verse a number of times together. GAME SQUIGGLE SUPPLIES NEEDED: Paper and pencils Give each child a sheet of paper and a pencil. Everyone can draw a few squiggles and shapes on their page then swap it with a friend. Then the goal is to make the most creative drawing from that squiggle. Once a number of pictures have been drawn, children can hold up their pictures for the rest of the group to see. PRAYER Dear God, We want to draw near to You.
