1 LEADER S GUIDE YOUNGER CHILDREN BIG PICTURE: DOCUMENT PURPOSE PRAISE This document is the Leader s Guide for BIG Picture PRAISE. It contains material for you to create an impacting small group time for you and your children. The BIG Draw Near User Guide document contains all the service element information, including the large group segment of your service. JOHN 4:23 (CEV) LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the conclusion of this lesson children will: Know that one day in God s presence is better than a thousand anywhere else. Learn to delight in drawing near to God and being in His presence. Discover how Moses experienced God s presence. YOUNGER CHILDREN RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 6-8 Use this KDG outline to prepare an impacting small group time for you and your children. CONNECT TIME Tell the person next to what the best part of your week was. ACTIVITY SHEETS Children complete the activity sheets in this time. THE BIG QUESTION GROUP DISCUSSION 1. What would you like to spend 1,000 days (almost 3 years) doing? The writer of this Psalm enjoyed being in God s presence so much he would rather spend just one day in God s presence than a thousand days anywhere else. Psalm 84:10 (NIV) Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. We can enjoy and delight in being in God s presence, for all the days of our lives. 2. How does it feel to you when you experience God s presence? Encourage the children to share their responses. We can have the kind of happiness in God s presence like the Bible talks about, Psalm 16:11 (NIV), You will fill me with joy in your presence. Psalm 89:15 (NLT), Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence Lord. Being in God s presence gives us joy and delight. 3. What do you enjoy about drawing near to God? Leader share your response before inviting the children to share some of theirs. Everyone enjoys God s presence in different ways. Some people love to sing and play instruments while others really enjoy reading the Bible. We may love to draw near to God through praying or learning more about Him. We can enjoy God s presence as we draw nearer to Him. THE BIG ACTIVITY SUPPLIES NEEDED: Draw Near Wheel craft pages printed from print material files onto card-paper, coloured pencils or markers, split pin. DIRECTIONS: Give each child a Draw Near Wheel base and heart to colour in. When they have finished colouring help them to use a split pin to pierce a hole through the middle of the heart and the base and affix them together. The heart should spin to point to ways we can draw near to God. EXPLANATION: We enjoy God s presence. Psalm 73:25 (GW), As long as I have you, I don t need anyone else in heaven or on earth. Of all the things in the world that are delightful and we enjoy, being in God s presence tops them all. Draw near to God as you worship Him.

3 BIG IDEA: TRUE WORSHIPPERS BIG POINT: WE WORSHIP GOD WITH ACTIONS NOT JUST WORDS BIG WORD BIG WORD FREEZE But a time is coming, and it is already here! Even now the true worshippers are being led by the Spirit to worship the Father according to the truth. These are the ones the Father is seeking to worship him. John 4:23 (CEV) LEADER NOTES A space for you, the leader, to write notes, plans, reminders, things to follow up on or remember for next time. SUPPLIES NEEDED: Big Word Song/Video Play the Big Word and when the leader pauses the music, the children must freeze. If anyone is moving, they are out and must sit to the side. The winner is the last person left. GAME RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT Players line up along the starting line. The traffic cop stands at the finish line with their back to the other players. When the traffic cop says, green light, everyone moves towards the finish line. When the traffic cop says, red light, everyone must immediately stop. If players are still moving when red light is called they must go back to the start line. Winners are those that make it across the finish line. PRAYER Dear God, We love you! Your presence is better than anything else in this world. Help us to draw near as we worship You. In Jesus name, Amen
