1 Page1 A22. Review of Passion Week This lesson is a review of the events of Passion Week and are referenced below in the lesson/activity section. Learning Objectives 1. The children will recall the events of Passion Week to understand the chronology of the week. Memory Verse: He has made His wonderful works to be remembered. --Psalm 111:4 (NKJV) Getting Started All Ages Put the Story in Order For this activity, partner up older children and younger children. Each group will need a copy of the Story Order activity sheet (see attached). Children should take 5 minutes to give it their best attempt at numbering the items from 1 to 10, putting the events of passion week in order. After five minutes, go over the correct answers as a class. Encourage the children to have fun working together in trying to remember the correct order. Provide a small treat or prize for everyone who participated. Bible Lesson with Activity Ideas Message: Remember Him. Teacher Note: For this review, you may be as creative as you like to make a visual representation of Passion Week. Choose one activity from the selection listed below. All Ages Class Project Each day is represented on its own piece of poster board. The children can illustrate their own pictures. These posters should be displayed chronologically in the class area or where appropriate. Individual Project The children create their own individual booklets or timelines, using the attached Picture Cards or their own illustrations. The goal of this lesson is help the children put the events of Passion Week into an order so they can more readily grasp this most important week in Christianity. Use the outline below to guide you.

2 Page2 Bible Lesson with Discussion Questions and Activity Ideas Continued Palm Sunday ~ Jesus enters Jerusalem Scripture Reference: Matthew 21:1-11 Memory Verse: Matthew 21:9 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven! Between Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday (Teacher Note: The following events also took place sometime during passion week, however theologically speaking we are not certain as to the exact day each of them took place. You may remind the children that these events also happened during passion week, but explain that we will not be putting them in our Story Card Books since we are not sure when exactly they occurred.) Jesus Cleanses the Temple Again Scripture Reference: Matthew 21:12-17 Memory Verse: Psalm 48:9 O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your Temple. Judas Makes a Deal to Betray Jesus Scripture Reference: Matthew 26:14-16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:3-6 Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday) ~ The Last Supper AND The Garden of Gethsemane The Last Supper: Scripture Reference: John 13:1-17, Matthew 26:17-30, Luke 22:7-20 Memory Verse: Luke 22:19 do this in remembrance of Me. The Garden of Gethsemane: Scripture Reference: Luke 22:39-65; Mark 14:32-42 Memory Verse: James 5:16 The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Good Friday ~ Jesus Dies Scripture Reference: Luke 23:13-56 Memory Verse: John 3:16 God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son. Saturday ~ A guard stood watch over Jesus Tomb. On this day, all is quiet. It is the Jewish Sabbath day, and the people were to rest. Easter Sunday ~ Jesus is Alive! Scripture Reference: Luke 24:1-35 Memory Verse: Luke 24:7 on the third day he will rise from the dead. You may also make a book with the cards, or have the children glue them on a long sheet of paper in chronological order to create a timeline of sorts. Please note: the children will need to draw a picture in the space provided for the Saturday card.

3 Page3 Bible Lesson with Discussion Questions and Activity Ideas Continued Grades K-2 Jesus Story Card Book See: Grade School Activities Jesus Story Cards The children will create cards to tell the story of Jesus death and resurrection during this activity. You will need the activity page (one for each child), cardstock paper, scissors, jumbo craft sticks, colored pencils or crayons and glue to complete the activity. They will use the cards to tell the story of Jesus death and resurrection to a partner when they are finished. Grades 3-5 To the Cross See: Grade School Games To the Cross This game is a fun way to review the events of passion week. You will need 2 bean bags, 5 sheets of colored construction paper, masking tape, and the 15 questions. Please see the above website for detailed instructions and the questions to be used. Crucifixion or Resurrection? See: Grade School Games Crucifixions or Resurrection During this activity the children will work together in teams to identify statements related to Jesus death and resurrection. You will need the game cards, a white board or poster board, scissors and tape for this activity. Please see the above website for detailed instructions and game cards. Journal Optional Grades K-2 Draw a picture of your favorite part of the events that happened during passion week. Grades 3-5 What did you learn from reviewing the events of Passion Week? Children reviewed all the events they have been learning about that took place during passion week in creative ways to better understand the chronology of the week. Live Your Faith For those who do not know about Jesus, Easter time is a great time to share your excitement over what He has done for you with others. As a family, think of and invite others around you who don t know about Jesus or who don t have a church home to come with you on Easter Sunday. Encourage your child to share their picture cards or story books with a friend or neighbor this week.
