1 RIDGLEA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 6201 Camp Bowie Blvd., Fort Worth, TX (817) September 2015 We will begin a new Narrative Lectionary year in September. The Narrative Lectionary s goal is to trace the sweep of the biblical story in order to center the lives of believers in God s story. Make plans to journey with us every week at 8:30am or 11:00am September is Join a Music Ministry Month! Autumn is here! No, really. That means it is time for music. If you have any interest in joining the music program, we are now beginning rehearsals for the rest of the year. Please join us! We are working on music for All Saints and Christmas. Come be a part of something amazing. Chancel Handbells Rehearses Weds. 6:15pm Chancel Choir Rehearses Weds. 7:30pm Chancel Praise Rehearses select Saturdays Experience God's love through music! The Session has called a Congregational Meeting September 13 12:45pm To act on the report from the Property Negotiations Team concerning the proposed contract for the sale of our building. *All members on the active roll of the church may vote. If you are unsure of your status, contact Virginia in the church office at *Per our Bylaws, you must be present to vote. No absentee ballots or proxy votes are permitted. *Childcare will be available*
2 Then they prayed and said, Lord, you know everyone s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen... - Acts 1:12-26 As I write these words, Ridglea Presbyterian Church is within three weeks of a congregational meeting that is likely to have a profound impact on the future of its ministry for years to come. As I hope you know by now, the session has called a meeting of the congregation for Sunday, September 13, at 12:45 p.m. to answer the question, Shall the congregation approve the proposed contract for the sale of the church property? If you have missed any of the informational meetings leading up to this day, extra copies of handouts and background materials are available in the church office. Logistically, the meeting on September 13 will be straightforward. We will call the meeting to order and put the question before the congregation. When the body is ready, we will proceed to a vote by secret ballot. Tellers will be appointed to count the ballots, and then the results of the vote will be announced. Per our principles of Presbyterian church government, a majority shall prevail, but the rights of the minority shall be protected. As moderator, I will do my best to ensure that decorum and mutual forbearance is maintained at all times. Those are the logistics, such as they are. But I see the question before us as theological rather than logistical in nature. As Presbyterians, we believe that when we make decisions together, we are not called to simply find the will of the majority or to represent the interests of a constituency. Rather, we are called to seek and represent the will of Christ for Christ s church. So the theological question is, What is Christ s will for Ridglea Presbyterian Church? My eighth-grade algebra teacher had a sign in her classroom that read, What s right is not always popular, and what s popular is not always right. I have thought about those words many times over these last years. What we discern might not be popular, but if we are earnest and faithful about seeking Christ s will for Christ s church, we will never be wrong. Please continue to pray for your church. Please pray for our elders and deacons and trustees. Please pray for the staff and for the faithful volunteers who have put in so many extra hours over these last months. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Grace Presbytery who stand as our partners in faith. Please pray for my family, and please pray for me, that I might be a faithful leader and moderator in the days ahead. Grace and peace, Ryan

4 Presbyterian Women of Ridglea celebrated our annual Women s Tea in Texas style great food and loving fellowship! Our own Rev. Amy Baer installed incoming officers with the theme In the Steps of Saints. It did remind us of all the faithful women who have gone before. Caroline Martin s program enlightened us on the many talented women hymn writers. These ladies composed or wrote some of our favorite hymns. Fanny Crosby Blessed Assurance; Francis Havergal Lord Speak to Me; Elizabeth Clephane Beneath the Cross of Jesus; Charlotte Elliott Just as I Am. What a joy to sing together these inspiring hymns. We were glad many members of the choir joined us to help us along. Thank you Caroline! We were so happy to have all our guests and hope they come join us in other activities. Now is a great time to Join a Circle!! These small groups of women gather together once a month to study the Word, have a time of fellowship, and support each other. Our new bible study is Come to the Waters by Rev. Judy Fletcher. She uses scripture to tell us the story of faith through water stories from Genesis to Revelation. For more information about Circle gatherings, call a Circle Leader: Circle 1 (home meetings on 2nd 10 am) Lynne Payne Circle 2 (meets at church on 2nd 10 am) Jo VanOosterhout Circle 3 (evenings, 1st Tuesday@ 6:30pm) Rachel Pena Circle 4 (meets at church on 3rd Delaine Godwin Esther Circle church, 9 am) Nicci Kennedy A workshop with the study author will be held at First Pres, FW on Sept. 15th. 6 The 221st General Assembly (2014) approved transforming the Peacemaking Offering to the Peace & Global Witness Offering to build on the rich tradition of our church s commitment to peacemaking as well as to engage with our global partners in new initiatives of reconciliation. Together we support efforts to inspire, equip, and connect Presbyterians engaging in ministries of reconciliation and peace that respond to cultures of violence, including our own. Through this vision of the Offering, we deepen our commitment to the transforming work of the Spirit. Session has designated the 25% of the Offering we keep locally to benefit Ladder Alliance, a local non-profit whose mission is to provide women of domestic violence or low-income women with the tools to lead self-reliant, independent, and successful lives. We are asked to prayerfully use September as a Season of Peace as we head toward World Communion Sunday on October 4 when we will be collecting this Special Offering. There are many great resources available to help: Service Committees September 1 7:00pm Outreach Commitment Care Team Worship & Nurture Committees September 8 7:00pm Christian Education Worship Fellowship Government Committees September 10 7:00pm Finance & Budget Building Personnel
