4 Let s Talk about Mental Health class continues today Mental illness is a pervasive issue that impacts nearly every family in America. Knox Mission Partner the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will present the second of two sessions on Let s Talk about Mental Health this morning at 10:00am in the Session Room. Learn about mental health conditions and how they affect our community and ourselves in ways you may not have considered. No registration is needed. Heather Smith Turner, Executive Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will lead the classes. Today s class covers the Prevalence and Impact of Mental Health Conditions, and part two next week will offer practical information on how to talk about mental health conditions: What to Say and How to Say It. January 20 and 27: Suicide, Anxiety and Depression Sandy Kaufman of Grant Us Hope will discuss the prevalence of suicide, anxiety and depression. These sessions will explore what leads to these conditions and offers approaches to understanding and preventing suicide, including available community resources. January 23: In Our Own Voices NAMI s In Our Own Voices presentation changes attitudes, assumptions and stereotypes about people with mental health conditions. This presentation, set for Wednesday, January 23 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Social Hall, will provide a personal perspective of mental illness, as presenters with lived experience talk openly about what it's like to live with a mental health condition. Trained presenters humanize the misunderstood, highly stigmatized topic of mental illness by showing that it's possible and common to live well with a mental health condition. This

5 presentation also provides: A chance to ask presenters questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions. The understanding that every person with a mental health condition can hope for a brighter future. Information on how to learn more about mental health and get involved with the mental health community. Dinner included. A donation of $8/person is appreciated. Pre-registration is helpful for planning. If you know you ll be there, sign up at knox.org or by calling the church (513) January 26-27: Safe Practices: Boundaries, Bodies, and Consent Workshop Communities often struggle with the taboo of topics like sexuality, bodies, and consent. This two-hour workshop will begin the conversation about such topics, aiming to educate and empower ministry leaders to create a safe church environment. Living and learning together at church with appropriate boundaries is essential to a congregation's health. It is not hard to find examples of stories where boundaries were crossed and lives were harmed, even shattered. Join us as we endeavor to learn and grow in our faith and create safe spaces for adults, children and youth to thrive. Adult sessions, pick one: Saturday, January 26, 3:00pm to 5:00pm or Sunday 12:15pm to 1:45pm (box lunch included), Social Hall. Open to anyone; all adults volunteering in any capacity with children or youth should attend. Youth session: 5:00pm Sunday, January 27: "These Are Our Bodies: Talking Faith and Sexuality at Church and Home" Youth Room. Childcare will be provided for all adult sessions on these pages!
