6 JON & TAMMY JUNKER, TEAM, Japan Jon is a Missionary Kid who has continued the ministry. Raised in Japan, he returned to that country after college and began ministry as a church planter. In 1988, he became pastor of the Azumino Family Church (AFC), which his father had founded. During the nineties, Jon met Tammy, a San Diego native who was on a shortterm mission trip. They were married in 1997, the same year that AFC was able to move into their new building. In the past several years, the Junkers have shifted their ministry to a sister church (Abundant Life Church - ALC), which had been thru a period of decline. The ministry has been growing and both AFC and ALC joined forces to minister to Northern Japan after the 2012 earthquake. Tammy home-schools their children and ministers to the ladies in the congregation. Jon has begun teaching BTCP (Bible Training Center for Pastors/Leaders) in order to provide a better foundation of biblical knowledge for Japan s Christian community. In August, a group of 14 musicians (mostly string) will be coming to serve both the AFC and ALC churches. Jon asks that we pray that they have an effective ministry. A prayer request which appears often in Jon s and Tammy s reports is for a strong ministry of the Holy Spirit within their home as they seek to be godly examples and raise their children to live for Christ.
