5 FUMCL PICNIC SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, :00 AM 4:00 PM GREENBRIER STATE PARK National Pike Boonsboro, MD The Fellowship Committee is holding its annual FUMCL picnic at Greenbrier State Park on Saturday, September 16. If you've never been there, you're in for a real treat. If you have been there before, I'm sure you're looking forward to visiting the Park again. Just ask anyone who attended the 2016 Appalachian Trail Walk. We had a great time, great food, and great fellowship together that day. We've rented a gazebo # 4 near the parking lot. There is a short walk on a paved walkway from the parking lot to the gazebo. After lunch, be sure to go by the visitor's center, with its many interesting displays and maps to hiking trails. There is also playground equipment for the children. While no lifeguard is on duty after Labor Day, swimming is allowed, weather permitting. If anyone has a volleyball set, you might want to bring it along and set it up on the beach. There is a map of the picnic area on the back of this sheet. FYI, there is a $3.00 per person charge for entering the park. The ranger at the toll booth can direct you to the correct parking lot. Just let him know that you are with the Nancy Tardy/First United Methodist Church of Laurel group. In order to get to the park by 11:00 and set up for lunch, we will need to meet at the church between 9:30 and 9:45. It's a little over an hour drive to the park. We will have maps to Greenbrier Park (yes, old-fashioned maps) available for anyone who doesn't have a GPS. A sign-up sheet will be on the table in the Narthex beginning August 13. If you need a ride or can provide a ride, please check the appropriate box next to your name on the sign-up sheet, indicating how many people will need a ride or how many you can carry in your car. The Fellowship Committee will provide charcoal, hotdogs, rolls, condiments, soft drinks and water, and trash bags. We are asking everyone to bring a side dish to share, such as pasta or potato salads, fruit, veggies, chips, etc. As with all Maryland State parks, Greenbrier is "trash free" meaning we must carry our trash out with us. Just in case anyone likes ice cream (and who doesn't!), there's a creamery not too far from the park, which is a nice stop on the way home. The South Mountain Creamery is a working dairy farm and they make ice cream on the premises from their own milk. And as I can tell you from Page 5
