3 Page 3 Speech Finals We were definitely treated to a smorgasbord of messages given by our amazing young orators. Each section of the Competition reflected the God given gifting and faithfulness in preparing a well sequenced and structured speech and delivering it with strength and conviction. Our judges Mr John Mudge and Mr Stuart Milsom were impressed with the content and the passion with which each speaker spoke. We pay tribute to ALL our Year 4 to 10 students who achieved high quality speeches which continue to develop confidence and quality. As teachers we see the benefits of a yearly focus on giving a speech. It pushes many of our students right out of their comfort zones and for others it releases gifting they didn't even realize they had. In all cases it is a winner! A special thanks to Emma Procter, Michelle Wynne, Lisa Álofi and Philip Brown who guided our students to success. The winners on the evening were: Primary Speech Winner 2017:Keziah Knobel Year 7 And 8 Winner 2017:Zoe Isaacs & Israel Warnes Year 9 & 10 Winner 2017: Isis Pan We were extremely blessed by Room 1 and 5 led by our rock stars Lauren Shrimpton and Kingdym Pitman; Chardae Ewing our rising Mataariki talented competitor and our Junior Secondary ukulele group led by Lars Neff and finally our Junior Secondary Choir with angelic soloist Elisha-Rose Lovegrove. The behaviour and community spirit of our students was exemplary and we could not have been more proud of the way in which they could celebrate and appreciate each other. The one who did what is right suffered for those who don t do right. He suffered to bring you to God. His body was put to death. But the Holy Spirit brought him back to life. Dear Whanau I would like to begin in expressing my and our sincere thanks as teaching staff here at for the incredible love, encouragement and sheer support we have been the recipients of over this past month. You are and have been everything we LOVE and TREASURE about being members of this whanau. Thank you also for your patience and your trust in me and for waiting for the process and the official announcement regarding positions for the new school. You have been OUTSTANDING in more ways than it is possible to outline and we have been strengthened by your faith, prayers and love! It is becoming increasingly evident to me that we truly are bringing one season to a close in readiness for the next which will build upon the foundation which has been laid over the past 7 years. With gathering speed there are s, meetings and discussions around the opening of Bethlehem College Chapman in January We are constantly recognising the need to consider various different aspects of school context from Property, to Finance, to Learning and Teaching, to Culture, to Administration, to Uniform.and the list goes on. What is becoming increasingly apparent is the need to know our call, our context and our constants. We do have non-negotiables; one of which is to guard the gates and to ensure the Christ-centred commitment of our Staff. It was an absolute privilege to be a part of the interview process over the past two Fridays. To hear Eoin Crosbie say to the interviewing panel You are in for a smorgasbord; a treat at the beginning of the day and then to hear him say upon conclusion of the interviews that he had never sat through a day of interviews in which there was such strong articulation of a Biblical worldview and understanding of Christian Education. Another member of the interview panel said she could not believe how passionately teachers are committed to Rotorua and to its community. This truly DID remind me of just how GOOD our God is. HE has indeed drawn us together to serve this city of Rotorua and called us to be faithful in unashamedly and unswervingly presenting the Truth of God as we commit to a discipleship Vision. Yes, we are on the cusp of exciting times. We are completely committed to walk forward in unity. There are moments of feeling somewhat overwhelmed in looking at just how much needs to be done which is why we may only operate in the grace and strength God gives us for each day which is more than sufficient. As an aside, it dawned on me over the past 2 weeks that we have a Roll cap of 120 which is 10 times 12 - tenfold the discipleship model we believe in. We are in our 7 th year and at the beginning of 2018 we will enter with BC their 30 th year - Jesus began HIS ministry in power at the age of 30. All very interesting sets of numbers. I sense an excitement that we are moving forward to witness God do some really MIGHTY transforming works in the city of Rotorua and in Tauranga. Bring it on! Wouldn t it be wonderful to have people buzzing about what God is doing here in Bethlehem College Chapman and Bethlehem College and those people hungering to be a part of it?

5 Page 5 Important Items Fee Payment We do need to emphasise the need for ALL tuition fees for to be fully paid by 31 st December Roll for 2018 Our Roll numbers are rapidly filling for Bethlehem College Chapman in We are mindful of the need to ensure that ALL families intending to be here have returned their enrolment forms for Bethlehem College Chapman next year. If your son/daughter is not returning next year then it is important to notify Mrs Warnes in writing BEFORE the beginning of next term. Attention Parents be DIGITAL WISE Please be digi savvy as we have the well-being of our children to consider and they are vulnerable! Please read this article from the New York Post on Digital Heroin by clicking on the following link: UNIFORM SHOP OPEN MONDAY 16th October am to 3pm We will begin Term 4 on Tuesday 17th October and our Staff Teacher Only Days will be on Thursday 12th, Friday 13th and Monday 16th October. Students will return in FULL Summer uniform. If you have any Summer Uniform requirements, we recommend making an appointment with Mrs Trish Copeland before the end of Term 3. We do allow students to wear shoes and socks until Labour Weekend as it is often cooler in the mornings and roman sandals don t quite give the same amount of warmth. We would also recommend to those of you who have a son or daughter leaving at the end of this year to bring their Winter uniforms in as these may be purchased by other children who will be entering Junior Secondary in If your son or daughter is moving into Junior Secondary in 2018 (Year 7 or 8) and you are requiring Winter Uniform items then this would be an ideal time to purchase these. We would like to sell as much uniform as we can BEFORE the New Year 2018 as this means that the money and any profit comes into us at so your support in this would be fantastic. Please return ALL cups Please return ALL cups and trophies even those received at the Speech Final so we can get them engraved. Thanks! Daylight Saving 24th September Daylight saving commences on 24th September and it's a good time to check your smoke alarm batteries. Remember: Health and Safety is everyone s responsibility. Wanted Mr D needs a bigger bandsaw for the Woodwork room as the current bandsaw is too small. He wants a 2nd hand or new one with blade length 2300 and wheels 400. Can exchange for the new Tool line smaller model if applicable.

6 Page 6 More Important Items House Soccer Tournament We were hoping to be able to hold the House Soccer Tournament this Friday 22nd September. It will be the usual fiercely fought battle between House teams and we will undoubtedly find outstanding team play, commitment and sportsmanship. We have kept the date under wraps as we don't want any talent scouts coming to poach our players so while parents grandparents and friends are welcome be mindful that this competition is in house and to be known just between us. A sausage sizzle for lunch on the day will add to the event so remember that sausages Swimming with Swim Rotorua With summer just around the corner, now is the best time to get into swimming! Swim Rotorua is a very friendly Club (recently won the Sports Club of the Year at the Trustpower Rotorua Lakes Community awards) with a big emphasis on friendship, fun and fitness. If you wish to swim in Term 4, then please contact Tara Watt on or at swimrotoruajunioracademy@gmail.com Do you need help with your strokes or swimming fitness? Then enrol on the Junior Academy Holiday Programme which takes place on Monday 09 to Friday 13 October at pm each day. Cost for the whole week is $20 or $5 per day plus pool entry. 7 Page 7 Marist School Visit Tasmania We are looking forward to the concert which our guests from Marist in Tasmania will bless us with on Tuesday 26th September at 11am. This is an incredible opportunity to hear some extremely talented young people who have been practicing for months in preparation for their visit and tour of New Zealand. If you are able to make the concert or have friends neighbours contacts who you know would be blessed and love to attend then please pass the word around as we would like as many people as possible to be blessed by these young people. Special thanks to those who have offered to billet these students overnight. Thank you for showing real kiwi hospitality and love to these young people. Such a blessing! We KNOW that they will remember their time in Rotorua as being a wonderful feast of enjoying creation's natural beauty, our cultural richness and delightful company of new found friends.
