It is Easter that sets the Christian faith apart from all others. The death AND resurrection of Jesus Christ is unique. While other faiths and religions may have some similarities to Christianity a popular teacher, a great preacher none of them talk about the death and resurrection of the Saviour. It has always struck me as interesting that at Christmas time we talk about peace on Earth, yet it is actually at Easter that we gain access to peace that is beyond understanding, and forgiveness that is complete and a hope for the future and an entry into the very presence of God. Prior to the resurrection of Jesus, the people were bound to a system of sacrifice that was never really complete. It required sacrifices to be offered every year. They acted as an annual reminder of man s sinfulness. So no sacrifice was ever enough. Until Jesus sacrifice on the cross. His death and resurrection was enough. It was complete. It was once, for all. My prayer is that all of our families truly grasp the full meaning of Easter, that between the chocolate and the eggs and the family time, everyone takes time to reflect upon Easter and its meaning to all of us. God Bless Graham TERMS 2&3 - WINTER UNIFORM A reminder to parents of the change in uniform from summer to winter commencing Term 2, We would appreciate all parents reviewing the school uniform policy to ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform at all times. In particular: * Skirt/pinafore length for girls - these must be knee length. * School ties for boys - Kindergarten to Year 12. We are aware that many students are not wearing the correct uniform; from caps to hoodies, black socks or incorrect shoes. This is a matter of respecting the school and the policies that we put in place. Your compliance and help in this area is valued. Thank you. 3 YR 7 SCIENCE In science we have been studying Antarctica. One of the features of Antarctica is the extreme winds. Speeds of up to 320km/h have been recorded making Antarctica in Douglas Mawson s immortal words, the home of the blizzard. The students have been making anemometers to measure wind speed using readily available materials. A little while ago we were also studying the seasons how it is that in different hemispheres one day can be long and another short, or in the case of the poles 24 hr dark and 24 hr light. Students created their own model world complete with two people (Adam and Eve) to observe using a lamp how the tile of the Earth affects day length and seasons. Most recently we have been investigating the effect of salinity on the freezing point of water. It is amazing to see the effect small amounts of salt have on the properties of water in the frozen south. SCHOOL TEAM WANTED We will be looking to get a team together again this year to make our presence felt in the community. So get training and watch this space for more.

4 NAPLAN 2015 NAPLAN FOR YEARS 3, 5, 7 & 9 Students in years 3,5,7 and 9 will be participating in NAPLAN testing during week 4 of term 2, Tuesday 12 th Friday 15 th May. Teachers will be working with students to prepare them for these tests. An information note regarding these tests has already been sent home, if you would like another one please see the front Office. These tests provide valuable information for our students to see their improvements over time and for the school to see where resources need to be allocated to assist with Literacy and Numeracy skills. ESSA 2015 ESSA FOR YEARS 6, 8 & 10 ESSA is the Essential Secondary Science Assessment. In past years students in year 8 have undertaken this exam in order to assess their Science knowledge and skills. This year the testing has been expanded to include students in years 6, 8 and 10. The examination has been an on line test with students using computers to complete the test. Students will complete this test in November of this year with results being made available in March the following year. Again this is a great opportunity for students to see their progress over time and to provide valuable feedback to the school. PINK STUMPS REMINDER PINK STUMPS DAY - THIS THURSDAY A REMINDER TO DRESS UP IN PINK FOR THE LAST DAY OF TERM 1!! Remember you will need to wear suitable clothes that you can play cricket in and clothes that are respectable.
