39-47 Biak Street P.O. Box Rotorua Mail Centre 3040 Phone: Fax: Issue 34/2017 8th June 2017 Week 5 Timothy 4:12 Week 6 Proverbs 11:14 Week 7 Proverbs 16:9 Don t let anyone look down on you because you are young. Set an example for the believers in what you say and in how you live. Also set an example in how you love and in what you believe. Show the believers how to be pure. Without guidance a nation falls. But many good advisers can bring victory to a nation. In their hearts human beings plan their lives. But the LORD decides where their steps will take them. Dear Whanau Well here we are right at the halfway mark of Term Where has time gone? We are excited to say that our Roll stands at 82 at this point in time and we continue to marvel at God s faithfulness to us. We welcome the Strever, Wolland and Wang families to our Chapman College whanau! It is a privilege to have you join us. You are gifts to us! The Scriptures we are learning are the moment are very timely and pertinent to us in regard to trusting God and seeking HIS guidance and direction in every decision we take. We are SO blessed to know that HE has our BEST and that HIS purposes for and for our precious young people will not be thwarted. He is our anchor as we walk by faith and not by sight. The Winter has definitely arrived and we have felt the nip of the Southerly wind in recent days as well as the mild temperatures which rain brings. Cross Country training is well timed as after 20-30minutes of pounding the field we have rosy cheeked, warm young people who do not notice the temperature. Reminding them to put on their jersey or sweatshirt afterwards at least ensures they do not lose too much warmth and get sick! The first lot of House Points have hit the Display Board and have brought to the attention of our amazing young people that those Principal s Awards bring in the BIG points and make ALL the difference to the final totals! At the end of the day, year after year, we see that is the consistent faithful use and application of each individual student s gifts and talents that enables them to attain a Principal s Award. It is the number of Principal Awards won which directly effect the House Point totals which means that EVERY single person counts and contributes. Please continue to encourage your son or daughter to keep giving their best and when he or she comes home with their Principal s Award then it is time to break out the music, put the Red plate of honour in their place at the table and celebrate their accomplishment! With love always Hazel

There were huge grins on proud kids faces and plenty of lovely connections made over sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs and hash browns. This event is a definite keeper so mark your calendars blokes for we'll be back Term Special thanks to all those who attended. We are so blessed to have regular visits from this wee poppet, currently the youngest whanau member. Introducing Miss Rain Nevaeh Parker who is eight months old We couldn t resist putting this cute photo in the newsletter from when she visited our office last week. Pray for Thank you to all our whanau who support us in so many ways; giving of their time, encouragement, donated goods, finances and prayer. Please continue to pray for Chapman College as this is God s school and is a mighty FORCE for His Kingdom in the city of Rotorua.
Page 3 Antshillvania Our first ever School Production!! We have held our Auditions for the speaking parts and cast the various characters. Mrs Shrimpton is working with our Junior Secondary on Wednesday morning creating the stage props. We will need parents who have sewing and costume skills so if this is something you are interested in doing that would be wonderful. We also need parents who can help with make up so if you are available please contact Mrs Warnes and let her know. We are still keen to find a choreographer so if you know of one please let Mrs Warnes know. Antshillvania will be performed at the end of Term 3 but the practices are now underway. Your son/daughter will have song lyrics to learn over coming weeks. All very exciting! CHESS POWER Tournament Friday 9 th June 2016 at Some of our Chess players will be taking part in a Chess Competition which we are hosting here as a local Inter- School event on Friday 9 th June. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with and bless others from schools across Rotorua and we are looking forward to this occasion. Go Chapman Chess players! Cross Country-Friday 16 th June (Postponement date-30 th June 2017) On Friday 16 th June we are planning to hold our Cross Country event. The long hard days of training will pay off as our students have done the hard yards in advance. We would love the privilege of having your presence at Waipa to cheer on our fabulous athletes. The House spirit of fierce competition is revving up and the training is becoming more serious as our athletes prepare. We would appreciate your support with transport and marshalling of the Course because we cannot hold the event without you, so fill in those Permission Slips and get them back to the school office. Please remember to dress warmly a beanie and thermals are definite necessities. We look forward to seeing you there.
Page 4 First Principal Award for 2017 We celebrate our very own Jordan Nieuwoudt...a shining STAR who at just 5 years of age is leading and inspiring us by his achievement. On Monday 29th May, Jordan entered Mrs Warnes office with his ten Merit Cards and his letter requesting his Principals Award. We have placed our Super Star's photo in the foyer and look forward to this being the beginning of many more of our talented young people attaining their Principals Award which is reflective of sheer diligence and determination to give their all. Every Principal Award wins 200 points for their house. House Points Board On the day of Athletics, as teachers we were thrilled with a number of our young people who simply stood out in the ways in which they loved and served others. We would like to honour Amber-Lyn Robinson (Tika-Blue); Abby Gilchrist (Mahaki- Red); Lars Neff (Tuari-Yellow) and Lauren Shrimpton (Atawhai-Green) as Chapman College outstanding young people of the day. They ALL earned 25 extra points for their House Teams. The House points from the event are as follows: Mahaki (Humility) Red 489 points Tuari (service) Yellow 518 points Tika (Justice) Blue 805 points Atawhai (Mercy) Green-543 Sick Children/Absences In the past 10 days our Room 1 and Room 5 children have been hit really hard with a nasty Flu type virus. Symptoms are vomiting, difficulty breathing and a croupy cough. Please be aware of this virus and keep your child warm and resting at home to ensure full recovery. The rapidity with which these viruses can spread and the length of time they sometimes take to fully recover can be lengthy. We have been informed that one of our families have Chicken Pox in their home so it is possible that this is around our city too. We are hopeful that the past long weekend break will have provided a restful break for ALL of our children and their families. Absences: Please phone (07) and leave a message on the answerphone or office@chapman.school.nz
Page 5 Digi Parenting Thursday 22nd June 6:30pm in A2 (the small auditorium at the front of the building) Free of charge In partnership with The Parenting Place and Living Well Church, we have a wonderful opportunity to attend a Digi-Parenting evening here at 6.30pm on Thursday 22nd June. Smart phones, ipads, Instagram, Facebook, endless Apps and other technological developments, can make a parent feel like a total dinosaur. The lingo around technology and the understanding of what dangers there are, requires us as parents to become more savvy. We are then equipped to guide our son/daughter and grow their awareness as to how to avoid and/or respond to the challenges and the pitfalls. Paula Fakalata-Presenter Paula joined the Attitude team in 2013 after working with youth for six years. He has a background working in correction facilities and alternative education centres mentoring young people. Paula s passion to see young people achieve their dreams and live lives they are proud of makes him an enthusiastic presenter. Topics include: insights into the digital world brain development text bullying gadget addiction online safety There will be a movie set up so there is a child care option for Parents Do come along for an excellent evening of crucial information which will help you stay aligned to the times. You won't regret attending! For more information see:
