Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm and eat well, but you do not give to them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works is dead. Indeed someone might say You have faith and I have works. Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. From the Letter of Saint James In his exhortation calling us to holiness, Pope Francis clearly shows us how our attitude, responding to needs with faith and charity. Seeing in the one I encounter as a human being with dignity identical with my own, a creature infinitely loved by the Father, an image of God, a brother or sister redeemed by Jesus Christ. That is what it is to be a Christian. The biblical letter of James and Pope Francis exhortation challenge us to walk the walk and not just talk the talk leading us from complacency to assist the suffering. Leo Antony at the 2018 Vivere Christus Award ceremony held at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Sunday, Sept. 9th. FLOOD IN INDIA. Kerala, a Southern state in India witnessed a terrible flood last month. We are taking a special collection on Sunday, September 23rd at every mass. Our Vocationist seminarians, brothers and sisters in Kerala were affected by this flood. Please be as generous as you can and pray for those who are still suffering from the flood. 5 PATRIOT DAY MASS 4th Annual Fallen Firefighters Red Mass The Diocese of Paterson will be celebrating the 4th Firefighters Red Mass, honoring firefighters killed in the line of duty in the counties of Passaic, Sussex and Morris at St. Gerard s Church on Tuesday, October 9th at 10:00 AM. Jesus says: I am with you until the end of the world. -Pope Francis St. Gerard s students paid tribute to all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on 9/11/01 at the 8:15 am Patriot Day Mass on Tuesday. Fr. James was the celebrant. Sr. Jo-Ann Pompa, school principal, led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. Music was by Marlene O Connell. The students served as the lectors and presented the offertory gifts.
