The dance of water is constant, but our eyes never see quite the same scene for more than a second. The sound of splashing water is soothing and relaxing. Fountains evoke thoughts of constancy and renewal, cleansing and refreshment. Fountains are also a needed source of water, the most essential element of life. God is the source of life for all creation. All things begin and end in Him. His love is beyond the bounds of the heavens. His beauty is constant as we see Him through circumstances that come into our lives. Even if we are unfaithful, God s faithfulness remains. It does not run dry. Over and over, He comforts His people. Daily His mercy is new to us, like clean water bubbling up from a fountain. When we see ourselves in Him our very lives held in His all of creation together belonging to, controlled and preserved by Him, we gain perspective on who we are and how much we are loved. As the psalmist says, With you is the fountain of life. The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 2 INSPIRE photos featured this week: PE Week From the Principal CELEBRATION SUNDAY AND PICNIC IN THE PARK Last Sunday was a wonderful community day for St Paul. Thank you to all families who were able to make it for our community church service in the morning, or to the school picnic in the afternoon, or both. I was able to chat to some of you but could not make it around to everybody. Please know that I was glad to see all of you there! Thank you also to the congregation and school staff and volunteers for all of the many weeks work in preparing for the day, and for the setting up, running of stalls and games, and for packing up. These events don t happen without your help and generosity. TRAFFIC REMINDER During this busy time of the year, many families are trying to get the last seconds out of each day. We have noticed in the mornings and afternoons that some parents are trying to save time by stopping in no standing zones to drop children off, or using the front of the church as a drop-off zone. Please note that there are no staff members on duty here and we have had parents let us know of some students being put in danger. Please continue to use the drop-off and pickup zone through the school. It takes 5-10 minutes, and provides much greater safety for all children. STAFFING NEWS Through a significant part of 2018, Mr Kym Mickan has had a PE and sports team assisting him with some PE classes, as well as with the organisation of events and our team sports. We thank Mrs Jess Lampshire (who supported in Term 1 before her maternity leave) Mr Armin Mayer (PE and sport team support) and Miss Hannah Gilles (PE support). In 2019, Mr Mickan will be working 1 day per week in PE, and I am pleased to welcome the return of Mrs Lampshire to St Paul for 2019 as PE teacher alongside Mr Mickan. Mrs Lampshire will work Tuesday to Thursday, and Mr Mickan will work on Fridays. Leila Mattner Principal From the Deputy Principal HOUSE STRUCTURES Thank you to everybody who has provided some thoughts and ideas around the potential for House Structures to be a greater asset for promoting student wellbeing. School Council, staff and now parents have had a chance to suggest new developments and ask questions. As yet there is very little to share in terms of where to next. Gathering feedback and input from a range of sources, without restrictions or leading questions has been an important step in the ideation process for the school. On the whole, this feedback has been extremely positive and creative in terms of how these structures can be best used to generate a greater sense of connectedness around the school. Next up, we canvas the students for their ideas. Like many developments at St Paul in recent times (new play spaces, JP Playground, Sensory Garden) their input will be vital. In 2019, our Year 6 students will take the lead with this process through a thorough unit of inquiry. This is an exciting opportunity for all Year 6 students to display significant leadership and leave a lasting legacy at St Paul for many years to come. 3 Sport News HOT SHOTS 2018 TENNIS RESULTS Congratulations to the following finalists: Year 4 Boys Winner: Kaleb Wilkins Runner-up: Lachlan Phung Year 4 Girls Winner: Lauren Minney Runner-up: Eleanor Mattner Year 5 Boys Winner: Mason Klenner Runner-up: Samuel Clark Year 5 Girls Winner: Xenia Salapalu Runner-up: Ruby Hartwig Year 6 Boys Winner: Liam Gates Runner-up: Fergus Venning Year 6 Girls Winner: Fenella Healy Runner-up: Lyla Muir ENDEAVOUR ATHLETIC CUP Perfect weather greeted the Connected Schools athletes at the Port Adelaide Arena for this year s competition. St Paul, Golden Grove and Para Vista sprang into action after the stirring sounds of the National Anthem. The blue sprint track was a dazzling feature of this new venue. All teams displayed a commendable spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. Mr Mickan s team performed extremely well on the day, supporting each team mate and celebrating the desire to achieve and persist. In the end it came down to St Paul and Good Shepherd for the overall win. However, this year it wasn t to be as the chocolates went further down Main North Road. It was a pleasure to see all athletes enjoy the camaraderie of a Connected Schools event and the leadership of the Endeavour students was invaluable. So it was another great day of sport at our school and we would like to thank all volunteers, staff and leadership who helped to support the Cup. CRICKET REGISTRATIONS 2019 The long tradition of cricket at St Paul continues in Registration forms have been handed out and the registration slips are due back on Friday 30th November. We would appreciate it if you meet this deadline as it will make planning for 2019 much easier. If you have not received a form please request one from the front office if your child is interested in playing. See you on the oval! 4 General News ST PAUL LUTHERAN SCHOOL APP Have you downloaded the New St Paul App? Find it at the App Store. The St Paul App will give you easy access to your Parent Portal via your mobile device, including sending absentee messages, school calendar and other important information. Please ensure you turn on notifications for this App. This will inform you when you receive a message from the school. SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDER The Scholastic Book order forms have been sent home with your child. The cut-off date is tomorrow Thursday, 22nd November. This is due to the books needing to be back at school before holidays begin. POKITO FUNDRAISER (ECO-FRIENDLY COLLAPSIBLE CUP) Thank you to those who have ordered your Pokito Cups. St Paul will receive $7.00 from every cup purchased. They make a great Christmas gift. It s not too late to order!!! Past St Paul Lutheran Primary School students Emma Jenke, Mel Oborn and Jemma Weiss confirmed their faith in a special Confirmation service. After two years of careful exploration of their faith as a group Emma, Mel and Jemma celebrated with their families and wider church family at a lovely service where they shared their faith statements and special talents. Please join with us as we keep them in our prayers for God to continue to encourage them in their journeys of faith and discipleship. SPY NEWS FINAL SPY FOR THE YEAR! St Paul Youth for children in Years 6-8 runs on the first and third Friday of the month during school terms. Our last get together for the year is on Friday 7 December. Time 7:00-9:00pm. This will be a Fast Food Progressive Dinner night meeting at the Church Hall. They are able to offer their high quality trees at $40 each. The sale of used postage stamps raises thousands of dollars to support God s mission in the world. So far nearly $400,000 has been raised. If you would like to contribute please tear off stamps from your postal mail, collect them, and place them in the Stamps for Missions box located by the pigeon holes in the foyer of the Church. Many thanks for helping with this wonderful and worthwhile mission.
