1 Providence Presbyterian Church Be Loved, Belong, Become, Be You! Pathways to Possibility I have a confession to make! I don t have what it takes to grow this church; my stamina, my vision for what the church could be, and my leadership skills are too diminished to see it through. I have another confession to make; I don t believe any one of our current church members have the financial resources, courage, and resolve to see it through either. Concluding these two things (I don t have what it takes and you don t have what it takes), the good news is that we are now free to follow the ONLY pathway forward, God s. Scripture says that God alone is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think. Did you catch that: God is able! It s not by our clever designs, it s not by hiring a magical person to attract younger generations to Providence, it s not about the perfect series of sermons, or any other quick fix events or programs. The pathway to possibility for Providence is through God alone, the God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. And how will God do this? The answer comes in the next phrase; according to the power that is at work in us. Did you catch that? In us. It s a we thing. It s not about how good of a pastor I am. It s not about how well the elected Elders and Deacons individually lead. The pathway to possibility is about all of us joining together to become a body of mission, service, prayer, and giving. It s about seizing what we can do together with God s help. August 2018 Published Monthly Issue Number 440 Inside this issue: Pathways to Possibility 1 Pastors Corner 2 Providence Book Club 3 Coins For Christ 4 Living Generously 4 Ruth Circle 5 Men s Breakfast 5 Zimbabwe Mission Partnership 5 Church Info 6 Church Leadership 7 Church Vision Statement 8 So when we are discouraged about there not being enough kids, available financial resources for the future, or the obstacles in our search for land; remember that God s strength is made perfect in our weakness. It is only through God s strength, abundance and mercy that we can accomplish anything. And, it is only when we join together, each of us doing our part, that we can walk the pathway to possibility. Focusing on these two things: God ( who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think ) Us (whom the power is at work in ) I want to invite our church to a season of prayer during the month of August. For about 20 minutes every Wednesday (August 8 th, 15 th, 22 nd, and 29 th ) at 12:00 pm sharp, join me in the sanctuary (or privately at your office or home) for prayer. I encourage all of us together to pray for our church, our impact on the community, our growth, our mission, and our ministry. Pastor David
2 Page 2 Providence Presbyterian Press Providence Presbyterian Page 2 Press Pastors Page A Hearty Thank You Providence Capital Campaign fund received over $1,000 from thirteen different families/individuals who wanted to remember the life, ministry, and work of Rev. Bob Bielenberg. By contributing to the memorial fund Donna Bielenberg and the family set up, a significant step has been made toward Bob s dream and our dream of building a welcoming church in the Parker area on our own land! In addition to these gifts, many thanks go out to Bob Bielenberg s wife, Donna, and Bob s whole family for boldly encouraging memorial gifts to be made to Providence capital campaign fund. We are so grateful for Donna and Bob s adult kids (Bob, Cathleen, and Becky), their grandkids (Mark, David, and Brian) and Donna and Bob s great grandchildren (Avery, London, Kaelyn, and Allie). By choosing to set up this memorial fund, Bob Bielenberg s love for the church (and Providence) will continue to grow and provide needed resources to extend and grow our ministry of love, grace, mission, and care in Jesus name. Perhaps you and/or your family would like to follow the example of Donna and her family? Our friend Sherry Kenney, at the Presbyterian Foundation, and any one of our three Trustees is more than capable in helping talk through the possibilities of planned giving to benefit Providence. Call Pastor David and get started today in exploring how you might leave a legacy.
3 Providence Presbyterian Press Page 3 Page 3 Providence Presbyterian Press The Providence Presbyterian Readers Do you enjoy reading? Do you have a favorite author or genre? Do you often wonder What shall I read next? Do you like socializing with other lovers of good books? If you have answered Yes! to any one of these questions you have an invitation to join our book discussion group. We gather once a month in various member s homes. The day is flexible we decide at each gathering on a date convenient for all. The time is usually 7:00 p.m. We believe in ride sharing to and from the gatherings especially if driving at night is an issue for you. We read a variety of authors and genres it is a group choice. We enjoy a variety of teas, coffees, and desserts. The next gathering is August 9 th at 7:00 p.m. at Liz Jansch s home. (10139 Lodestone Way, Parker, CO 80134; Phone ) We will be discussing two books: Maisie Dobbs by Jaqueline Winspear and The Nightingale by Krisitin Hannah Both books are about relationships between the characters as affected by war. The Maisie Dobbs book is set in London in the years following World War I. This is the first book in a series about Maisie, so the author is establishing Maisie s character. The second book is set in France during the years of World War II. Chris, Diane, Gwen, Jennie, Kay, Liz, Miz, and Rhonda P.S. You are welcome even if you have not had time to read the books!
4 Providence Presbyterian Press Page 4 Coins For Christ Our Coins For Christ collections continue to grow! We might want to consider using our door, hinges, and handle on the smallest room in our future building. Because with July 1 st collection of $ we can afford a very nice bathroom sink (if we purchase it from Lowes!) We still need more money for the base, faucets and plumbing fixtures but maybe our next collection on August 5 th can be used toward them. The 2018 total to date is $ Anticipation Living Generously A friend has been planning a road trip for months. So it s no surprise that the anticipation of the trip has taken on a life of its own. Just ask any bride-to-be! The temptation is to miss part of life now while planning for a future event. It s important that we stay alert now to people, things, events that we should be thankful for. It s wonderful to be grateful for exciting times to come it s also wonderful to be grateful for each day, each gift of God. Thank you for your constant support of our church community and the larger community too. You are a gift to us.
