Please do note that the processing fee that St. David's is charged for these transactions is 2.75%.
3 Vestry Meeting Highlights April 21, 2016 Following the opening prayer led by Mike Roehrer, Christine Rudolphi reflected on the Bishop s address at the diocesan confirmation service. We discussed issues brought up by the congregation the need for better lighting and signage at the driveway entrance, a persistent odor in the ladies room, and the opportunity for parishioners to give the sermon during morning prayer services. Dale Pappas-Wilhelm, representing the Going Local Guiding Team, reported on the successful Kinnelon Road cleanup, with 9 parishioners participating. She also noted that she and Doris Snyder had their monthly meeting, and that they would be speaking with the congregation on the 2 Sundays prior to Memorial Day to discuss how the congregation might participate in the Town s Memorial Day program.. Dale, representing the ad hoc Committee on Outreach, reported on Mike Odian s presentation on April 17, and that they re now looking for input from the congregation, particularly on hand-on outreach. The Vestry agreed that it was a good idea to set up an Outreach Committee to oversee outreach activities in the parish, perhaps adding a few more to the present number. David will follow up. We offered thanks for Nancy Moody for being guest organist, for coordinating the Lifeline Screening, and for working on parish publicity with Gill Otto; for Irene Williams for coordinating the Kinnelon Road cleanup; for Mike Roehrer, for his conscientious work on buildings and grounds, including coordinating the spring clean-up; for Bonnie Hook for getting us set up with QuickBooks; for Mike and Debbie Roehrer for coordinating the plant sale; for Jennifer Trevisan and Rich Dobson for coordinating the parish social dance event; and for Mike Odian, Doris Snyder and Dale Pappas-Wilhelm for serving on the ad hoc Committee on Outreach. David reported that there was a wonderful Confirmation and Reception at the Cathedral on April 16, and that our 3 young confirmands - Dominique Molee, Jake Stanton and Paige Verroca - will be recognized by the Parish on Sunday, April 24. David also reported that he will offer morning prayer training on Monday, May 23 rd in preparation for the May 29 th and July 3 rd services, and that he will again be taking Anti-Racism training in September. We reviewed and approved the Treasurer s report for March, and Irene Williams showed us a sample of the new QuickBook reports that we will be receiving beginning next month. Julie Dolci noted that all of the 2016 transactions have been posted on QuickBooks.. John Simonelli, representing the Budget & Finance Committee, reported that we have received another Ward J. Herbert Grant for $8,500 and had previously received a BCEF (Bishop s Church Emergency Fund) Grant for $6,450. The Vestry approved the entire WJH Grant and $1,600 of the BCEF Grant, totaling $10,100, to be deposited in our unrestricted endowment fund, because the money had previously been spent to cover roof and rectory door repairs, and that the remaining $4,850 which will be used this year for rectory window replacement - will be deposited in our restricted endowment fund. He also reported that the 2015 audit has been completed, and that both of our investment accounts had modest gains in the 1 st quarter. Contd/
4 Mike Roehrer, representing the Property Committee, reported that we have begun the basement cleanup, that the boiler has been inspected and certified, and that the A/C units in the parish hall and rectory will be serviced. He also reported that 15 parishioners have signed up for spring clean-up day, with a focus on outdoor work. Julie Dolci reported that thanks to generous donations from several parishioners we now have the funds to replace the carpet in the sanctuary. We voted to adopt Lee Moody s change to the bylaws which reflects our current practices regarding committees, where a vestry member needs to serve on each committee and be the committee s liaison to the Vestry, but need not be the chair of the committee. Jennifer Trevisan reviewed the qualifications for the David P Hegg II Senior Achievement Awards and agreed to be the contact person for nominations. We amended and approved the church calendar for May. Respectfully submitted, John Simonelli, Senior Warden READERS CIRCLE BOOK GROUP JUNE 6, 2016 THE FORTUNATE PILGRIM, by Mario Puzo Discussion Leader: Mike Odian Before THE GODFATHER, there was Puzo's classic story about the loves, crimes and struggles confronted by one family of New York City immigrants living in Hell's Kitchen. Fresh from the farms in Italy, Lucia Santa struggles to hold her family together in a strange land. At turns poignant, comic and violent. Puzo has called his 1965 pre-godfather novel his personal favorite. It is a quietly thrilling reading experience. The Fortunate Pilgrim is the real birthplace of the Godfather. As Puzo says, the book's hero, Lucia Santa, is based on his own mother. And as he wrote what was to become the world's bestselling novel, "whenever the Godfather opened his mouth, in my own mind I heard the voice of my mother. I heard her wisdom, her ruthlessness, and her unconquerable love for her family and for life itself... The Don's courage and loyalty came from her; his humanity came from her... and so, I know now, without Lucia Santa, I could not have written The Godfather." St. David s Readers Circle meets once each month, October through June, on the first Monday of the month. Newcomers are welcome to join the Readers Circle at any time. For more information about the next reading season which will begin on October 3 rd, please contact Sondra Odian.

6 CELEBRATING OUR NEWLY CONFIRMED YOUTHS God s call to each of us is to engage in the exploration of faith with all of our heart, mind and soul. Our call may take us down unimagined roads, yet at every step we are surrounded by God s love, guidance and promise of abundant life in Christ. Today, we honor such faithful exploration by those who belong to us and have been newly renewed through the sacramental rite of Confirmation. We celebrate the continued growth and greater maturity of these three young people: Dominique, Jake and Paige. We acknowledge their growing independence and we entrust them to God s loving care. Dominique, Jake and Paige newly confirmed members of the body of Christ, we invite you to join us in the work of healing. We cannot give you a perfect world, but we can welcome you to the work of making it whole. We ask you to join us in an ongoing and mature commitment to Christ, seeking to treat every person with dignity, to care for God s creation and to witness to the good news of Christ s love and forgiveness.
