KEENAN WEATHERFORD S LAST NEWSLETTER pick it up in the Gathering Space. Keenan is the ELCA Young Adult in Global Mission who has spent the past year working in Lekubu s Early Learning Centre. This is the Centre Grace is supporting through the July Special Offering. Keenan s pictures and stories gives much more background on Lekubu s Creche. JULY SPECIAL OFFERING LEKUBU S EARLY LEARNING CENTER This is a remarkable resource that caught the attention of Al and Deb Overhaug and Pastor Mark and Claudia when they visited our companion parish in Each of them can tell the story of a five year old boy using a flannel board to tell the Biblical Story of Joseph and his brothers. At that time the Lekubu Parish pointed out that the German Church s support was ending in The Overhaugs and Ziemers emphasized that the Early Learning Centre was truly worthy of support but that this relationship needed to be mutual, as had been asserted to them by our ELCA Global Mission Department and confirmed by Bishop Ditlhale of the Western Diocese. See the special insert in the bulletin OUR GIVING AND EXPENSES May 2014 General Fund Offerings $28,758 $24,713 Disbursements $37,930 $33,829 General Fund Balance $28,532 20,303 YEAR TO DATE General Fund 2013 YTD 2014 YTD Offerings $150,556 $148,737 Disbursements $151,564 $164,982 WEEKLY FINANCIAL NEWS General Fund: $7, Noisy Collection: $43.00 Attendance: 177 STEWARDSHIP CORNER It is God s nature to give. Because we are created in God s image, we have within us a disposition to give. Unfortunately, because of sin, we lost that image and became selfish rather than giving people. By His grace, God restores us and renews us, so that we want to give cheerfully and generously. With changed hearts, we give our first and best. God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). God richly bestows us with the capacity to give generously. We will always be given the opportunity for doing good. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God (2 Corinthians 9:11). Vacation Bible School at Grace! "Catch the Buzz" Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be August 4-8 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for children age 4 through those having completed grade 5. Lunch will be included. The week will conclude with worship on Saturday, August 9 at 5:00 with a potluck to follow. See registration forms in the Gathering Area and in the June newsletter! Bring a friend or three!!! Help Wanted for VBS We are excited about our Vacation Bible School August 4-8 but we need your help. If anyone from Grade 6 through age 99 is interested in being involved, we can use your gifts! We need team leaders for various age groups, group assistants, lunch coordinators, servers, game leaders, service project helpers, and music leaders. We will also need donations of various food and craft items. Please prayerfully consider being involved with this fun, faith-building event for our young people. If you have questions or want to volunteer, please contact Patti Gaedtke or Wendy Black in the church office. Register for a Wellness Package, which includes four vascular tests and osteoporosis screening, from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call or visit
3 PLEASE CALL US IF YOU ARE HOSPITALIZED If you are hospitalized, please call us, or have a family member do so. That is the only way we will know. We do NOT get notified by the hospitals. You may call (715) , or pastorziemer@gracetomahawk.org or dhetzel@gracetomahawk.org FAIR TRADE IN THE SUMMER Our congregation s response to the Fair Trade ministry we began in January has been very uplifting. Your purchases of various coffees, teas, chocolates and other items like honey, almonds, granola bars, etc. have been a great indication of your willingness to help farmers around the world earn a better living. For this, we thank you. We will continue to sell Equal Exchange items at our selling table on the early weekends of each month: July 5 & 6, August 2 & 3 and September 6 & 7. Remember, products can also be purchased at the church office during the week. You may also ask the Fair Trade ministry team members (Deb Overhaug, Margie Welke, Cathy Schmit, Wendy Black, Patti Gaedtke or Sherry Clements) for product whenever you see us at church. We thank you for your continued support of this worthwhile ministry. GROUP EVENTS & FUNDRAISING GUIDELINES FORMS If you are planning an event or fundraiser, please pick up one of these forms from the office or go to our website: and click on Downloadable Forms. These forms have proved to be very helpful to the office staff and we believe they will be even more useful in the future as they will provide more details in tracking expenses and will include comments by those in charge of these events. Please remember to turn in the short Report portion (second sheet) of this two page document. The office will be following up on the report forms.
