3 MYEOFFERING Please see the insert in the back of the bulletin regarding MyEoffering. We have recently learned that all parishioners currently using this program need to re-establish their accounts. Please follow the instructions found in the insert. Likewise, if you choose to participate in electronic offering, simply follow the same instructions to establish an account. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Michelle Mazza, SPB Business Manager, at , ext You will be receiving the same letter in the mail. CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY Last Sunday, we learned about prophets in our Gospel reading. One of our priests preached about prophets in our lifetime. We have some examples in our own parish. About two weeks ago on a hot Saturday night, a group of volunteers raised money for the homeless. On the Fourth of July, another group of volunteers cooked and went out to visit the homeless under the bridges in Downtown Cleveland. They provided a good meal, clothing and a small U.S. flag to make sure that those in need were not forgotten on that national holiday. These volunteers that I mentioned are prophets of love, compassion and the message of the Gospel (a Gospel of love). The greatest disease in the world is being unwanted, unloved and uncared for. We can cure some diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair and hopelessness is love. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD. Remember, we have a great need for t-shirts (sizes large, X-large and XX-large). Thank you! OUR SUGGESTION BOX - MAY I SUGGEST? Saint Paschal Baylon Pastoral Staff and Pastoral Council are always interested in your ideas, suggestions, improvements and more! Through our ombudsman, Tom Kelley, you are able to share your input: tjk12@case.edu. Also in the Father Fickel Narthex, there is a suggestion box under the prayer intention booklet. You may write a suggestion and place it in the yellow box. WEDDING BANNS FOR JUNE 2018 Justin Meeson and Samantha Scholtz Bryan Barris and Sarah Kosec

Fr. Eric Garris gave us an inspiring witness about how we must cling to Christ during the storms in life. No matter what our age, it s imperative that we keep our eyes on Christ, or like Peter, we will be distracted by what s all around us and sink. But if we keep our EYES ON CHRIST, we shall never fall. Jesus is truly the anchor in our storms. Please let me know ASAP if you would like to help serve at Villa Serena next Saturday. We could always use help! 5 FROM THE PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE 16 th Sunday in Ordinary Time: Today s readings remind us of the importance of taking a break, having a retreat: resting a while in a deserted place. Have you found your deserted place? I ll never forget my first experience as pastor, coming back from a vacation, having a very irate parishioner yelling at me that I didn t deserve a vacation because they never got one. In a Holy Spirit, inspirational moment, I said, Perhaps you should! You might be a little kinder! Some of us are fortunate to get away, others may not have the opportunity, but we all need to take some time to get away. Even if we are homebound, let s find the opportunities to get to the Metropark or National Park: getting a break somewhere is a sacred, important time for us to experience God shepherding us. We will be better for it! Part-time Weekend Maintenance: We are still looking for someone 18 or older to put in 10 hours over the weekend to assist with our many set ups, clean ups and more that occur at our busy parish. Please contact our Maintenance Supervisor, Jon, to apply: jondetzel@yahoo.com Change in Athletic Association: We are grateful to Kim and Jason Weybrecht for leading our Athletic Association for many years. The baton has been now passed to Joe Carlton and his family. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful parents who assist in providing athletic opportunities for our young people. Thanks so much Kim, Jason and Joe! In Touch With Daily Parish Activities: I m so thankful to most of our parishioners who keep faithful to know what is going on in the parish by faithfully reading the bulletin every week and always mailing in envelopes! You may also like us on Facebook or sign up for Twitter and see our almost daily pictures and highlights of our parish s life. Liturgy of the Hours: Morning Prayer: Part of our pastoral plan was to have some liturgical catechesis from time to time. Today and next week, I d like to share a little bit about the prayer of the church, the Liturgy of the Hours. After the Second Vatican Council ( ) [V2], the church revived the liturgy and called for more active participation from the laity. The second most important style or type of ritual prayer (after the Eucharist or Mass) had always been the Divine Office but now after V2 called the Liturgy of the Hours. These liturgies highlight the times of the day that our sacred Jesus, being a good Jew, would participate in praying and praising God. And, we Christians would keep that model of living, with the two hinges of the day, namely Morning and Evening Prayer, being the times when the community

6 would gather together to pray. Here s the outline of the structure for Morning Prayer: Invitatory (getting us into the prayers) Hymn Psalms & Canticle (two psalms are proclaimed, in choir style, that is reciting or singing on two sides of the chapel. Again, because Jesus proclaimed the psalms, we continue this tradition today, with the psalms reminding us of the joy of a new day) Reading from the Word of God Responsory (a chance for us to respond to God s word) Canticle of Mary (from the praise of Mary when she met Elizabeth and they both recounted how through miracles, they would usher in God s Word to touch our world) Intercessions (some are prepared, and we add our own for the needs of our world and family) The LORD s Prayer Closing Prayer Dismissal This prayer last about minutes; and why is it important? Liturgical prayer is an important rhythm in our life for worshiping God, for acknowledging our needs and starting our day with a pledge and witness to faithfully serve God. As I ve said to many who have the time, Try it, you might like it! For those who are not able to be present in the church, we know you pray in your car, home or wherever. We are in communion in our prayer as we grow in holiness. Thankfully the church offers this opportunity. Bulletin Contest: It s been great to see our young people saving bulletins, preparing for their prize on the first Mass of the day school or first PSR Night Prayer. While we have been giving you a catechesis on Morning and Evening Prayer, Night Prayer is a shorter version of hallowing the day and looking forward to a peaceful and restful night. Don t hesitate to come to the once a month Night Prayer with PSR, starting the last Monday of September. Parish Picnic is Coming! Don t forget to pray for good weather and come join us at Highland Heights Park, Sunday, August 19 at Noon. Mass, hamburgers and hot dogs, ice cream and children s games! What a wonderful day to spend together. Saint Ann & Eymard Triduums: Take the time to rest, or bring someone here to rest in these wonderful, holy and sacred moments of devotion and spirituality over the next two weeks! Let us continue to pray for each other! In Christ our Eucharist, Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS 8 th Pastor P.S. Remember you are able to sign up for a liturgical ministry as a communion minister or usher, by texting me! Ask me for more details!

7 STEWARDSHIP We are a stewardship parish: we recognize that as God s stewards, we cannot help but give thanks to God for our many blessings and gifts. We demonstrate this by sharing our time, talent and treasure to build up God s reign. We do this because there are a lot of joys and blessings, expenses and duties for living and running a parish family. Collection for July 14 and 15: $14, Collection for Blessed Sacrament Mission: $3, Bills we paid this week: Gas for our vehicles $ Pension benefit $22, Hillcrest Hospital Chaplain (1/3 of position) $1, Diocesan Pension Program (1/2 year) $10, Summertime has lots of improvements, bills and other items, not recorded here due to vacation and more. We appreciate your contributions those who have increased their weekly/monthly/yearly donation to assist in the increased expenses of running a great parish! Forward in Faith, Hope & Love: those parishioners who have already filled out the commitment card to share their prayer-filled tithing increase for our parish s life next year edify me. Thank you for sharing your time, talent and treasure to build up our parish s life. We ask all parishioners to please fill out a card, even if you are keeping your tithing about the same for next year. This commitment is an important witness! ENDOWMENT FUND We appreciate the many who continue to invest in our award-winning school, insuring a strong endowment fund for the future of the school.
