3 PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL LEGACY GIFT Just as we plan to ensure financial health for our families, we must plan for the health of our faith families. Your planned gift to Saint Paschal Baylon will provide financial support that will benefit parishioners with a legacy of faith and love. You have a wonderful Catholic heritage. Pass it on! Contact the Advancement Office at ext. 112 to learn more. BABY BOTTLES FOR BIRTHRIGHT Our parish is sponsoring a fundraiser for Birthright, a pregnancy crisis and counseling center with three offices in greater Cleveland. It is totally volunteer driven with all monies raised going to help moms and their new babies and to keep the offices open. Last year your generous contributions totaled $1,922! The baby bottle campaign begins Mother's Day weekend May 7th and 8th and will conclude on Father's Day weekend, June 18th and 19th. Please pick up a baby bottle in the bassinets at the church entrances on Mother's Day and take it home and fill it with spare CHANGE (cash or a check made out to Birthright also accepted) to help make a CHANGE in a young woman's life SPRING FLING CORNER 2017 Spring Fling Update - As the countdown clock continues winding down, T minus 18 days anxieties continue to rise but the long term weather forecasts are looking good. Raffle ticket sales have topped the $20K mark with over 820 books sold or 37% of our goal to sell 2,200 books. Don t let those ticket books gather dust, fill them out and turn them in. Weekly $60 drawing of returned ticket stubs continues right up to the Festival. Online volunteer signups are coming along nicely with approximately 30% of the 494 openings filled. Visit the parish website select Church, then select Spring Fling to reach the volunteer site tab. Not tech savvy? Paper signup sheets are available in both the Fickel narthex and at the rectory. The Texas Hold em Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 th at 7:00 p.m. Registration fee is $50 with all registration monies paid out as prize money. The Chinese Auction is expanding. We are in need of cash donations and gift cards for gas or restaurants, for many of the auction items. If you are a Cleveland Sports Season or Cleveland Orchestra Ticket Holder and can help, pleased contact me. We will be in the Narthex today and for the next 2 weekends, selling presale ride vouchers, discounted pasta dinner tickets, Chinese raffle tickets, $10K raffle tickets as well as registering Texas Hold em participants and Festival volunteers. Lastly, NPR s Car Talk Press Secretary, Donna B. Zonozi, felt I needed help in tightening up these articles so she pitched in. What do you think, did it help? Our final pre-festival meeting is on Monday, May 8 th, 6:30p.m. in the rectory. Contact Bob Mastrangelo via at bgmastrangelo@gmail.com or by phone at for additional information.

4 WELCOME TO OUR NEW PARISHIONERS Mr. and Mrs. Ron Resweber, Ms. Kathy Hlad, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Lombardo, Sr., Ms. Michele Raia, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Prijatel, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Doland, Mr. Raymond Valente, Ms. Christine Malec, Ms. Nicole Valente CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHILDREN RECENTLY BAPTIZED AT SAINT PASCHAL BAYLON: Brielle Marie Hufnagle, daughter of Frank and Alexandrea, Alice Kay Gafne, daughter of Brian and Katrina, Cagney Sophia, Hadley Grace and Livia Reese McBride, daughters of Taylor and Jennifer, Jack Weston Berne, son of Philip and Kathleen. THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS The World Day of Prayer for Vocations will be observed on Sunday, May 7 th, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday. The purpose of this day is to publicly fulfill the Lord s instruction to Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that our young adults will hear and respond generously to the Lord s call to the priesthood, diaconate, or religious life. You can find many resources to promote a culture of vocations on the Blessed Sacrament Vocation Office wesite: blessedsacrament.com/vocation CLOWN/HELPING HANDS MINISTRY As the Easter season continues, our ministry continues to be an Easter people to those who are in desperate need. While our Knight Riders were out on their usual Wednesday night trip to serve a hot meal to the homeless, there was a deaf man whom we come to know. He was happy to see us even though he was barefoot in the rain. Luckily, we happened to have size 15 shoes to give him. The tears in his eyes and smile on his face showed our volunteers what it is to be an Easter people. On Saturday, our Clown Ministry put on many skits for the students at their Jesus Day Retreat. That same morning a group of dedicated volunteers did the cooking while later other volunteers went to Four Corners church to feed needy people. When they arrived, the people had been waiting in the cold but were so grateful to us for bringing them food and clothing. You can see how we are an Easter people to God s special people in need. God bless all of you and thank you for your support and prayers. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD. SMILE AND SAY CHEESE! We need YOU to make our new Parish Photo Directory complete! Lifetouch Photography will be at our parish on the following dates: Tuesday Saturday, May 23-27, 2017 Tuesday Saturday, May 30 June 3, 2017 All photography will take place in the Sr. Dorothy Kazel Meeting Room. Plan to park in the horseshoe parking lot on Wilson Mills Road. You will have a variety poses taken and no sitting fee. Every family photographed will receive a complimentary directory and an 8 x 10 portrait. Sign up online at our parish website:

5 FROM THE PASTOR S PERSPECTIVE Due to the holidays and publication schedule, this column was written April 16. Easter Sunday Joy Week 3! The classic story of Luke s Emmaus captivates us each time we hear it. What a great reminder of our Eucharist: an opportunity to recognize the presence of Christ in our midst. Christ is always walking with us, through thick and thin. Each Mass is an opportunity for us to celebrate this gift of Real Presence. More importantly, we are reminded to be that Real Presence to one another. Too often we become so distracted by technology, mind games and other events that we worry or stress about things. Instead, allow Christ to pull us out of these anxieties and bring us to what really matters: being in communion with one another! Inter-faith Gathering This Week: Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., please join us as we pray for our country. For many decades, the first Thursday of May has been the Day of National Prayer. It has become an inter-faith day, meaning bringing all the religions of our country together to pray together for our country and its future. Each month, a group of clergy and leaders in other religions, Hillcrest Ministerial Association, gather to pray, share a meal and tap in to the resources of one another and our congregations. We are blessed to know one another and meet together. We will lead this service together in a witness of solidarity and care as Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists gathering to work for peace and justice for all. Quarterly Meeting Capital Campaign Update: In our third year of our pastoral plan, our parish continues to strive to implement the many goals that were set before us. Quarterly, we gather to give reports and share the news of our community with one another. All are welcome to join with our parish leaders to hear the great stories of our ministries. We will have a special report from our new parish organization: Social Action Commission. (We are still looking forward to leaders creating a Family Life Commission.) More importantly, we will discuss the meeting we had with the diocese whereby Bishop Thomas requested we pause our capital campaign until a new bishop is named for our diocese. Bishop Thomas did not want to tie the hands of a new bishop by committing to the project for us to add STEM classrooms to the school, refurbish our computer lab and library into a Learning Commons, redo our parking lot and lanes, replace with more energy efficiency our church windows and remodel and update Father O Brien Hall and kitchen. What are our next steps? What are the important things we can do before we begin fundraising? Let s talk about this together Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Eymard Room. Preparing for the Body & Blood of Christ: Each parish organization has a member process with a banner in the annual Body & Blood of Christ Procession, telling the world, or at least our neighborhood, that the Real Presence of Christ is in our midst and ministries. Please see Vince or Labeeb in our maintenance department to take your organization banner and refresh it. We will use them again Sunday, June 18 at the Noon Mass. We are so blessed to have a guest preacher that entire weekend, Blessed Sacrament Father George Dunne.

6 From our Respect LIFE Committee: Baby Bottles for Birthright: For the 3 rd year in a row, Linda & Jim Peters will lead us in a special campaign for Birthright. On Mother s Day, there will be baby bottles in baskets at each of the doors. Please take one, save your change, and on Father s Day bring the filled baby bottle back to church. This baby bottle campaign is the only fundraiser carried out by Birthright. The East 185 office (there are two others) has several SPB parishioners who are volunteering to support moms and their babies those who have chosen to give life! Thanks for to saving your change for this volunteer-driven organization. Special Thanks! This column is being written on Holy Saturday morning, due to the production schedule of the bulletin and our youth group trip to the Navajo Nation. We want to thank a few people who have been instrumental to our successful Holy Week & Triduum celebrations: Evamarie Rossi Mickol, Jack Ina and our youth group for the Living Stations of the Cross George Zagar, Jimmy Kalina and the Karim Family for his sacristan and serving duties Michelle Kitko, Matt Parrotta, Julie Parrotta and Roberta Modica for being such a great musical team for us and leading us at the different Masses. And our instrumentalists: Steve on organ, Jeff on trumpet and bass guitar, Steve on trumpet, John on guitar, Celine on flute and Sister Angela for her violin talents at different Masses! Our lectors, ushers, altar servers and communion ministers for their tireless devotion and service. Fr. John for his inspiring homilies uniting the Triduum and Dan, Greg and Jeff for their leadership with the art & environment ministry. You! The parishioners who support our wonderful liturgical ministries and participate so well and deepen your faith and service by your presence. Continued blessing on your Easter Time and let s continue to pray for each other! In Christ our Eucharist, Reverend John Thomas Lane, SSS, 79 Pastor P.S. Next week please remember that the Noon Mass, Sunday, May 7 is our annual large group First Communion. I ll also have a report of our Youth Group Life in the Eucharist Retreat and service project at Saint Michael Indian School and time on the Navajo Nation. STEWARDSHIP ATTENTION- PLEASE NOTE: If you are making your St. Paschal Baylon church donations through MyEoffering, please remember to update your MyEoffering Account with the dates for another year of tithing. This step is required each year. We have been receiving calls indicating that their electronic tithing wasn't coming out of their account, so please double check to make sure all your information is current. We thank you for being part of this Body of Christ and for serving God here with us and out Pastoral Staff and the hundreds of volunteers who serve daily here at SPB. At the end of the year, points can be exchanged for incentive rewards of their own choosing. 2. Donor Express now allows participants to expedite the process by completing the health questionnaire ahead of time.
