2 PASTOR S LETTER/ CARTA DEL PASTOR Dear parishioners, I would like to thank Melissa Solano for her time here at St. Mary serving as our secretary and later as our youth minister. I truly appreciate all her time, energy and faith that she showed, especially to our youth. I know that she will be missed, and we wish her all the best on her transition in this next step in her life. In the next couple of weeks, we will be forming a new ministry that will focus on the faith-life of the whole family. The first step will be to form a family ministry committee that will develop a vision for family ministry in our community. I will be speaking about this in the coming weeks. Have a blessed and safe Memorial Day! Say a prayer for all those that gave their lives for our country. Blessings, Fr. 4 DISCIPLESHIP, AND EVANGELIZATION Quote of the Week Pentecost which we celebrated last Sunday is for the Church what the anointing of the Spirit, received at the Jordan, was for Christ, that is, the missionary impulse to consume one s life for the sanctification of men, to the glory of God. If the Spirit operates in every Sacrament, He does so in a special way in Confirmation that the faithful receive as Gift of the Holy Spirit. And in the moment of carrying out the anointing, the Bishop says this word: Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit : the Holy Spirit is the great gift of God. And all of us have the Spirit within. The Spirit is in our heart, in our soul. And the Spirit guides us in life so that we become right salt and right light for men. If in Baptism it s the Holy Spirit that immerses us in Christ, in Confirmation it s Christ that fills us with His Spirit, consecrating us His witnesses, participants in the same principle of life and of mission, according to the celestial Father s plan. The witness rendered by the Confirmed manifests the reception of the Spirit and docility to His creative inspiration. I wonder: how is it seen that we have received the Gift of the Spirit? It is seen if we carry out the works of the Spirit, if we pronounce words taught by the Spirit. Christian witness consists in doing only and all that the Spirit of Christ asks us, granting us the strength to carry it out. -Pope Francis, Wednesday Audience, 5/23/2018 FAITH FORMATION A dult Formation Learning and Living the Faith Q: Why does the doctrine of the Trinity matter? A: Sometimes people talk as though doctrine doesn t really matter, and can therefore find it difficult to understand the early Church s centuries-long struggle to define who God is and who Jesus is. The reality is that ideas have consequences, for how we see the world, how we see ourselves and others, and how we see God. While God s existence can be known by reason alone, in revealing to us the truth that God is a trinity of persons, He has revealed the heart of His inner life. This has given meaning to the phrase in 1 John: God is love The truth of the Trinity means that love is at the center of reality something that cannot really be true of any other conception of the divine. It is a uniquely Christian idea, and it has uniquely Christian consequences for the meaning of human life and love. While difficult to understand, the mystery of the Trinity rewards deeper investigation of it. The Christian concept of mystery doesn t mean We can t figure it out so don t look into it, it means Look deeper but you will never reach complete understanding as is fitting for a mystery of God accessible to us, but ultimately infinite and transcendent.
