2 October 12, 2014 Month of the Holy Rosary 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time How great thou art! Shake it up! The church shook with the sound last Sunday when we belted out My Savior God How great thou art! I thought of that story in the Bible when the house where Christians were meeting shook with the power of their prayer and they spoke the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:31) How Great Thou Art isn t modern it s from Yet people love it and we sing it with boldness. It perfectly puts into words the heart of Christianity God has been so generous, and has done so many magnificent things for us, a Christian can t help shouting out boldly in gratitude, How great thou art! Pope Francis likes to talk about the spiritual boldness of Christians: The Holy Spirit also grants the courage to proclaim the newness of the Gospel with boldness in every time and place. Jesus wants evangelizers who proclaim the good news not only with words, but above all by a life transfigured by God s presence. (The Joy of the Gospel, n. 259) This is what Parish Stewardship is about: a joyful commitment of our transformed lives and financial resources to our parish faith family. Through Parish Stewardship, each of us is saying How great thou art! in gratitude for the good news of Jesus, and we are making our parish a place where How great thou art! continues to shake the building and shake people s lives as we experience the life-changing good news of Jesus. The song How Great Thou Art starts out, O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made The Bible says that awe came upon everyone who experienced what those first Christians were doing. (Acts 2:43) Like them, we can keep making our Christian faith family of St Augustine a place of awesome wonder by the gifts of our lives and our resources! On All Souls Day we, the Church on earth, pray for the Church on its way : those who have died and who now are being purified and prepared by God to be received into heaven and stand before His face. We assist them on their way by our prayers and by the sacrifice of the Mass. Before All Souls Day, you are invited to bring photos of your deceased family and friends to either St. Augustine or St. Mary, to be placed on the Altars of the Dead there. They will be remembered in prayer throughout the month of November. The All Souls Day Remembrance will be celebrated at the 9:30 am Mass on November 2. Father Paul

Rite of Burial On All Souls Day, the Church offers Masses and prayers for all the faithful departed. The 9:30 am Mass at Saint Augustine Church on Sunday, November 2, All Souls Day, will be offered for our beloved dead whose names have been placed in our All Souls Day Remembrance. If there are those whom you want included in our All Souls Day Remembrance, to have this Mass offered for the eternal rest of their souls, either complete an All Souls Day Envelope found in the pews, or the form below, and return it to the parish office. Look favorably on our offerings, O Lord, so that your departed servants may be taken up into glory with your Son, in whose great mystery of love we are all united. Amen.
