Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. 5 PARISH NEWS DSA 2017 IS COMING SOON! The theme of the 2017 Diocesan Support Appeal comes from St. Paul s First Letter to the Corinthians, Your every act should be done with love. 1Cor 16:14. These words remind us why it is important to support the DSA with our prayers and financial gifts. Those who work and serve in ministries supported by the DSA do so with great love in their hearts. As well, our financial gifts to the DSA are an expression of our love for those served ALLERGY/FLU SEASON It is allergy/flu season again. If you have had it, please share your act of charity and kindness by NOT receiving the cup of the Precious Blood of Christ. The Church teaches us that if we receive just the Body or Blood of Christ, we receive the whole Christ. Thank you for understanding. FIRST FRIDAY will be Friday, February 3 rd We will have Eucharistic Adoration following the 12:15pm Mass and extending until 3pm with Benediction. There is a sign-up sheet on the back table. If you cannot come at the time you have signed up for, please contact Fr. Duc. LITURGICAL NOTES: 1****THE FEAST OF THE PRESENTTION OF THE LORD falls on Thursday, Feb. 2nd. Therefore the Blessing of the Candles will take place after Mass on Wednesday, February 1 st. All are invited to bring candles with them to Mass that day to have them blessed for personal and family use. 2***** FEBRUARY 3 rd IS THE MEMORIAL TO ST. BLAISE. The blessing of the throats will be celebrated at 12:15pm Mass. Please contact Tani Seymore at If you find any mistakes in your statement, please let us know at LITURGICAL NOTE: ORDINARY TIME Besides the times of the year that have their own distinctive character, there remains in the yearly cycle thirty-three or thirty-four weeks in which no particular aspect of the mystery of Christ is celebrated, but rather the mystery of Christ itself is honored in its fullness, especially on Sundays. This period is known as Ordinary Time (Universal Norms, 43). Ordinary Time begins on Tuesday, January 10th, and continues through Tuesday, February 28th, the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten Season. It will resume when the Easter Season ends, that is, on Monday, June 5 th, the day following Pentecost. 5
