Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. JAMES 2:5 What is more important being rich in faith or rich in possessions? Society teaches us that possessions are most important. God teaches a different lesson. When we are rich in faith, we keep God first in all things and realize that material things really don t matter and that it s more important to share with those who have less. 5 PARISH NEWS DSA 2018 DIOCESAN SUPPORT APPEAL (DSA) We are now 9 months into the Diocesan Support Appeal campaign, and as of today 76 of our parishioners have contributed. We need each of you to help us reach our goal of $23, Thank you. PRIEST S RETIREMENT & BENEFIT COLLECTION: The dedicated priests who served us in the past (You may want to mention former pastors or parochial vicars who are now retired.) now deserve to live out their retirement years in dignity. Our parish has been assessed $ for the priests retirement and benefits plans. This amount is slightly less than two times the regular weekend offertory. Please be as generous as you can in this second collection, which will be taken in our parish next weekend, September Additional envelopes are available in the parish office. BIBLE STUDY will resume on Tuesday, September 11 th. Please join us in the parish hall from 7:00PM-8:00PM. All are welcome. LITURGY NOTE: In 1886 Pope Leo XIII, because of the evil that excited at that time composed a prayer he instructed the whole church to recite. The prayer was recited after every mass throughout the world until In 1994 Saint Pope John Paul II, again recommended this prayer not be forgotten and to pray it to obtain help in the battle "against forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world". Even today, exorcist recommend this prayer to combat evil. The scandal with in our "Holy Catholic Church", the dreadful sins of some of our priest, bishops and cardinals, evil has continued. In order to help combat this evil today, we at St. Benedicts, as a prayerful community of faith will begin praying this powerful prayer to St Michael after all Masses. May God in His merciful love help, heal and protect all victims of sexual abuse. ****** From NOW on, we will say The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after all masses daily and weekend. "The Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel" Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly Host, by the Devine power of God, cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. 6 DIOCESAN ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION - If you are celebrating your Silver or Golden Wedding Anniversary this year, this is the last week to contact our church office if you wish to be included in the celebration. The Mass will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Mass begins at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.
