Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. 5 PARISH NEWS DSA 2018 DIOCESAN SUPPORT APPEAL (DSA) We are now 9 months into the Diocesan Support Appeal campaign, and as of today 76 of our parishioners have contributed. We need each of you to help us reach our goal of $23, Thank you. HURRICANE FLORENCE DISASTER RELIEF FUND: The Diocese of Charlotte is responding to the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Florence by collecting funds to be used to support disaster recovery efforts. Disasters such as the widespread flooding create a situation of human suffering that the victims cannot alleviate without assistance. The Catholic community of the Diocese of Charlotte is responding by collecting funds to be used in short-term and longterm relief and recovery efforts. A special collection will take place during Masses celebrated on weekend of September 29 th -30 th. If you wish to donate, please make your contributions in the specified collection, making checks payable to St. Benedict Church and clearly marking the envelope or memo for Disaster Relief. Thank you for your generosity. FIRST FRIDAY will be Friday, October 5th. We will have Eucharistic Adoration with Benediction following the 12:15pm Mass LITURGY NOTE: In 1886 Pope Leo XIII, because of the evil that excited at that time composed a prayer he instructed the whole church to recite. The prayer was recited after every mass throughout the world until In 1994 Saint Pope John Paul II, again recommended this prayer not be forgotten and to pray it to obtain help in the battle "against forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world". Even today, exorcists recommend this prayer to combat evil. The scandal with in our "Holy Catholic Church", the dreadful sins of some of our priest, bishops and cardinals, evil has continued. In order to help combat this evil today, we at St. Benedicts, as a prayerful community of faith will begin praying this powerful prayer to St Michael after all Masses. May God in His merciful love help, heal and protect all victims of sexual abuse. ****** From NOW on, we will say The prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after all masses daily and weekend. "The Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel" Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly Host, by the Divine power of God, cast into hell, Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. 6 ANNUAL PRIEST RETREAT 2018 From Sunday, October 7 th to Friday, October 12 th, all Diocesan Priests will have a retreat with Bishop Peter Jugis in Maggie Valley. Please keep all the priests in your prayers. St. Benedict s will have Communion services during this week. FAITH FORMATION NEWS Faith Formation for grades K-HS meets every Sunday morning from 9:30am -10:30am **** It is not too late to register your child. More than 1,500 cities across the US and Canada are expected to participate. On Sunday, October 7 th from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. St. Benedict Parish will be participating in the 2018 Life Chain on Battleground Ave. (in front of Lowes store). Let us come and pray. THE FRANCISCAN CENTER of Greensboro Speaker Series presents A Biblical Perspective of Wine for Faith and Spiritual Formation, by Sherri Grigg, on Thursday, Oct. 11 th at the Franciscan Center, 233 N. Greene St., Greensboro. The program is from 11:45 to 1:00, beginning with a light lunch which is provided. A $5 donation is requested. Please call the Center at (336) to make your reservation.
