Wednesday, ten (10) days in advance of the weekend of publication. PARISH REGISTRATION: Welcome all new families and individuals. Membership is a condition for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion at St. Benedict, and for the parish to issue a sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors. You must be a registered, contributing member for at least three (3) months before a certificate will be given. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office. SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK: If you are seriously ill, going in for surgery or weak from old age, you may receive the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Please contact Fr. Duong if you desire to receive this sacrament. HOSPITAL & NURSING HOME & SHUT-IN VISITS: If you or any members of your family are sick and in the hospital or a nursing home, and you d like Communion brought to them, please call the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION: All classes from Pre-K to High School are on Sundays from 9:30-10:30am in the Parish Hall. For more information call Lynne McGrath. 5 PARISH NEWS DSA 2018 DIOCESAN SUPPORT APPEAL (DSA) We are now six weeks into the Diocesan Support Appeal campaign, and as of today 65 of our parishioners have contributed. We need each of you to help us reach our goal of $23, Thank you. EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS: SAVE THE DATE! Our Charlotte Diocese Eucharistic Congress will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 7 & 8. This spiritually unifying event brings together thousands of Catholics from across the diocese and southeast for spiritual talks, music, prayer, and fellowship - all centered around the Most Blessed Sacrament. All ages welcome! MAY CROWNING will be on Sunday, May 13 th during 11:00 Mass. May Crowning is a traditional devotion in which an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is crowned with a wreath of spring flowers. This act of filial devotion is done during the month of May to recognize Mary as Queen of Heaven, Queen of Earth and Queen of Peace. AED TRAINING: St. Benedict s parish is equipped with two lifesaving AED devices. One located at the back of the Church and the other is located in the Parish Hall. We are in need of trained persons to operate the AED in case of an emergency. If you would like to receive AED training or renew your certificate, please call the parish office for more details. ORGANIST NEEDED We send a warm thank you to Carol Soter for her years of service as St. Benedict s organist and wish her well, she will be missed. Our parish is now looking for a new organist. We are not looking for a professional musician; instead we are looking for someone who can read music and play the organ for the choir on Saturday during 5:00pm Mass. CATECHIST S NEEDED: St. Benedict s parish has been blessed with a wonderful Faith Formation program, due to the dedicated catechist s who have lovingly shared and instilled our beautiful Catholic faith with our parish children throughout the years. We are now in need of new catechists for the upcoming school year. Faith Formation News Vacation Bible School St. Benedict VBS is joining the Olympics! the week of June :00pm 8:30pm PLEASE SIGN-UP TODAY COMMUNITY NEWS ALL NIGHT VIGIL: All Night First Friday-First Saturday Vigil May 4 & 5 at Our Lady of Grace beginning with the First Friday Mass at 6:30 PM on May 4 and ending with the First Saturday Mass at 8 AM on May 5. Confessions are available after the First Friday Mass from 7:30 8:30 PM. This night of love will include scriptural rosaries, Nine Offices of the Sacred Heart, silent adoration, Saturday Office Readings for the Immaculate Heart, Divine Mercy Chaplet and more. For more information contact Geri CATHOLIC CHARITIES DIOCESE OF CHARLOTTE: Catholic Charities employees will be present at St. Mary Catholic Church (812 Duke Street, Greensboro) on Wednesday and Friday for the next two weeks (April 25 and 27, and May 2 and 4) at the Parish Center to offer assistance to individuals and households who were impacted by the recent tornado. The time period when assistance will be offered is 10 AM to 3 PM. Assistance will be available in English and Spanish. There is no need to sign-up in advance. 6

7 MASS FOR THE MILITARY His Excellency, Bishop Peter J. Jugis, will celebrate a Mass for U.S. military personnel on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Charlotte. The Mass and rosary (to be recited at 10:30 a.m.) will be offered for all military personnel who have died and for those who are now serving. All military personnel are invited and encouraged to come in uniform. Photos of those who have died or who are now serving in the military will be displayed in the Cathedral. To include your service member, preferably in uniform, please mail a color or black/white photocopy of them with their name and military rank on the back of the photocopy to Nancy Weber, Office of the Bishop, 1123 South Church Street, Charlotte, NC to be received no later than May 26, Please do not send original photographs as they will not be returned. RESPONDING TO DISASTER: As our city recovers from the impact of Sunday s tornado, let us all maintain a bountiful eye toward our neighbors in active disaster recovery. Greensboro Urban Ministry is working with the Red Cross and other community partners to serve the many households affected by Sunday s devastating tornado. How you can help - The agency currently needs several items to respond to our neighbors needs: Diapers in sizes 3, 4, 5 and pull-up diapers for potty training, the pantry has large quantities of smaller sizes; Similac, infant formula of all varieties; Bottled water; Prepared sandwiches that can go home with clients when they leave our emergency assistance and Potter s House programs.
