The community s primary ministry was to conduct parish missions, that is, to visit local churches and offer revivals, preaching sermons, providing catechesis, celebrating the sacraments, reconciling sinners, and teaching people how to pray and continue in their faith journey once the missionaries had move on. Alphonsus used paintings and statues of Mary as visual aids that complemented and carried his message about Mary and her Son. When Pope Pius IX gave the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help to the Redemptorists in 1865, Alphonsus spiritual heirs found it fit perfectly with the themes they had been preaching. To this day in churches and homes, wherever a copy of the icon hangs, the message of plentiful redemption and merciful love is continually proclaimed by the Redemption Madonna, Our Mother of Perpetual Help. St. Louise has two devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. One meets on Wednesdays at 6:45 pm and Our Mother of Perpetual Help meets the first Saturday of each month after the 8:00 am mass in the church. Please join us!

3 Page 3 There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1 Happy 2016! The Year of Mercy! Pope Francis has announced the Jubilee of Mercy, which begins on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and concludes on Sunday, November 20, 'I have decided to announce an Extraordinary Jubilee which has at its center the mercy of God. It will be a Holy Year of Mercy. We want to live in the light of the word of the Lord: Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful (cf. Lk 6:36). And this especially applies to confessors! So much mercy! May this be the year that you become more involved in your parish! What a delightful way to celebrate the Jubilee of Mercy! In this weeks Bulletin there are requests from several ministries in which you may become involved! Get to know your fellow parishioners, do the active works of God. Have a blessed New Year from the Parish Staff! The St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church is looking two captains for our Environment Committee, whose purpose is to enhance our worship spaces. The captains will work with the current group of dedicated volunteers who assist in the implementation of the environmental décor. The sacred environment of the Church reflects the changing liturgical seasons so to enhances our prayer experience. This ministry is open to any of our parishioners. This is a wonderful way for you to get involved in parish work and feel at home" in your parish. Please let us count on you saying yes! Come! Help us continue to make St. Louise de Marillac a beautiful place to worship. Please contact Sandra Roman, Lay Ministry Coordinator (626) Ext. 223 Ministry@stlouisedm.org The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Family life is sacred, but it is not without trial. Perhaps this is the most important message we can glean from today s readings. If Jesus, Mary, and Joseph can trip up sometimes can disconnect then we shouldn t find it surprising when such things happen to us as well. And parents everywhere (children, too) can probably relate to and take some solace in the Gospel s account of Mary and Joseph after Jesus explained why he stayed behind in the temple. They heard his words, Luke tells us, But they did not understand what he said to them. (Luke 2:50). Amen! Nevertheless, Jesus does go back home with them, and continues to thrive under their care.

To submit an article for the parish bulletin it to bulletin@stlouisedm.org by the Friday prior to printing, no later than 3pm. Then you know how much a person with compassion is needed to assist in the planning of the Funeral Mass. Maybe you could be the person to assist the family in planning the services for their loved one. Meet with the family and help them through the process, obtain the information needed from the family about the deceased, set up the funeral mass, work with the celebrant, purify and put the sacred vessels away. Pray and ask yourself is the Lord calling me to serve in this ministry? If you would like to know more about the Funeral Intake Coordinators, Please contact: Sandra Roman ext 223 or sandrar@stlouisedm.org. 8 CALENDARS/SCHEDULES Page 8 DID YOU KNOW? Take a time out to communicate Sometimes, kids need a place to go where they can say what they want, and they won t be immediately punished or have to deal with a negative reaction. It s important to make sure your child has such a space or time after dinner conversations, an ice cream spot, riding home from school where they can tell you what s on their mind, good or bad, and you can just listen and discuss, without taking the instant parental approach. If your children feel safe talking to you openly, you are better equipped to notice and handle any red flags in their lives. For a copy of the VIRTUS article Modeling Good Communication, jvienna@la-archdiocese.org For more information on other ways to keep kids safe, contact Linda Filkins, the Parish Safeguard Committee Chairperson at (626) or the Archdiocesan Safeguard the Children Office at (213) For particular help, call the Victims Assistance Ministry Office at (213) TODAY S READINGS First Reading Hannah gives her son Samuel back to the LORD, leaving him in the temple at Shiloh: As long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD (1 Samuel 1:20-22, 24-28) or Sirach 3:2-6, Psalm Blessed are they who dwell in your house, O Lord (Psalm 84) or Psalm 128. Second Reading We are children of God when we believe in the name of God s Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another just as he commanded us (1 Jn 3:1-2, 21-24) or Colossians 3:12-21 [12-17].
