LOUISE EVENTS AND MEETINGS Page 2 HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE STUDY A team from Azusa Pacific University (APU) School of Nursing is invi ng Filipino-Americans with high blood pressure to take part in a study. Par cipants must have been told by a physician or nurse that they have high blood pressure, taking medica ons for high blood pressure, 50 years old and older, and are willing to par cipate voluntarily. The study involves answering several ques ons. Your blood pressure will be taken; your weight, height, and waist/hip circumference will be measured; blood and urine samples taken, and you will be given printed materials on how to be er manage your high blood pressure. Each par cipant will receive $25.00 plus a blood pressure device and a pedometer for your personal use. The APU School of Nursing team will be at St. Louise today, October 23, 2016 (Sunday) at 1:30 pm in Msgr. Pierce Hall. The topic will be Suicide: Recognizing the Warning Signs for Adults and Teens. The speaker is Teresa Celada Dalton from the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health at Children s Hospital. She will speak about recognizing the warning signs of suicide and what recourse we have to prevent the taking of life. Teresa also assists the Archdiocese of Los Angels in the Vic ms Assistance Ministry. The workshop will take place Sunday, November 6th in the Monsignor Pierce Hall from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and will include the use of audio-visual materials as well as a ques on and answer period. Please take advantage of this free seminar. Light refreshments will be served. Suicide is an unfortunate occurrence and can be prevented if we recognize it s signs and take ac on to prevent it. All are encouraged to a end, especially parents, grandparents, young adults and teens. Respect Life Ministries works to promote the dignity of each human person and the culture of life by workshops as well as other endeavors. Everyone is invited to a end as the issues of life affect every single one of us and we need to be ac ve in order to defeat the culture of death which seeks to deny the respect, dignity and worth of human life from the moment of concep on to life s natural end.

In announcing his decisions to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, Dear brothers and sisters, I have o en thought about how the church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy. Suppor ng the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gi s is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collec on today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas prac cal help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gi in today s collec on for the Society for the Propaga on of Faith! During this year s 90th anniversary, World Mission Sunday celebra on relates its theme to the Year of Mercy, Mercy Changes the World. Pope Francis notes, The mercy of God is His loving concern that each of us As the Father loves, so do His children. Just as He is merciful, so we are called to be merciful to each other. Mission dioceses about 1,100 at this me-receive regular annual assistance from the funds collected. You can also find more informa on at h ps://missionsla.org/programs/world-mission-sunday/ THIS WEEK S HIGHLIGHTS Sister Lynn Roebert, CSJ It is with heavy heart that we learned of the passing of our beloved Sr. Lynn Roebert, CSJ. Lynn Roebert was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 13, She was the daughter of Melbourne and June Roebert. Lynn was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Detroit, Michigan at the me of her entrance into the Congrega on of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth on September 1, She received the name Sister Michaela at her recep on on July 2, 1956 but returned to the use of her bap smal name in later years. She pronounced her first vows on July 2, 1958 and final vows on July 2, Sister Lynn received her A.B. degree from Nazareth College in 1967, majoring in Math and minoring in Chemistry. She received her Master of Arts degree from St. Xavier in Chicago with a major in Theology. She began teaching at St. Louise de Marillac School in the 1970 s. She became co-principal with Sr. Joanne Gibbons at Sacred Heart School in the 1980 s and 1990 s, and was an ac ve volunteer at the City of Hope. Sister Lynn came back to St. Louise and taught Math un l she re red and returned to Nazareth. Sr. Lynn was generous, caring and had a great spirit of self-giving. She said what she meant and meant what she said. remembers Chris Avila. May Sister now enjoy peace and eternal happiness with our Lord.

LUCY S CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE The public is invited to shop, dine, and be entertained at St. Lucy s Priory High School s 52nd Annual Home for the Holidays Christmas Bou que, scheduled for Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Unique holiday-themed merchandise will be available for purchase in our holiday shoppes and booths, including holiday décor, handcra ed items, custom-made gi baskets, live plants and homemade baked goods. Kids of all ages are invited to the Children s Workshop for photos with Santa, story me, and cookie decora ng fun. This ac vity is a FREE, fun, and safe way for children to trick or treat. If you would like to par cipate bring your vehicle and decorate it. You will have to supply your own treats to hand out to the trick or treaters. A prize for best vehicle decora on will be given. Space is limited. Please plan accordingly. Allow an hour to set up your car prior to the beginning of the event. 6 WORSHIP AND LITURGY Page 6 ROSARY MAKING GROUP October is the month of the Rosary. The Rosary Making group meets this Thursday, October 27th at 9:15 am in the Parish Center Board Room. Learn how to make a rosary for someone less fortunate. Through the Blessed Mother s request at Fa ma to pray the rosary frequently. In order to gain peace in our homes, country and in the world, our parish Rosary Makers invite men, women and children to accept Mary s invita on to provide rosaries to those who will never have one unless it is provided for them. In this way you are the Blessed Mother s hands. You are invited to learn how to make a rosary which takes about 20 minutes to complete. Please come to one of our mee ngs on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 9:00 am in the Parish Center Boardroom. October, The Month of the Rosary Please join your fellow-parishioners each weekday after the 6:20 am and the 8:00 am Masses in praying the rosary Where two or more are gathered in prayer, Jesus & Mary are there also. THIS WEEK S HIGHLIGHTS Guadalupana s Street Faire St. Louise will host the Guadalupana s Annual Street Faire on Sunday, October 30th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Msgr. Pierce Hall. The Street Faire is an annual event which features a variety of vendors and a variety of items that will be sold including handcra ed items and direct sale merchandise. It is a great opportunity to get started on Christmas Shopping. There will be prizes, raffles and a variety of Mexican food. Please join us. Your support helps the Guadalupe Feast Day which will be on Monday, December 12th, The Feast Day begins at 5:30 am with the rosary, then Mass, and ends with breakfast. Mariachi s will play at the Mass and through the breakfast. Please join us! ST. LOUISE SENIOR SOCIAL CLUB The Senior Social Club is mee ng today, October 23rd n the Mul Purpose Building from 2:00 PM to 4:00PM. The purpose of the club is social and to make new friends, enjoy each others company by interac ng with one another as well as be ering the lives of others through ac vi es. The Social Club also gets involved with other ministries both in the parish and in the community. Each mee ng consists of a pot luck lunch, a quick mee ng and trip planning and then concludes with five games of Bingo. The Social Club is always looking for new volunteers and members. We meet every Thursday at 12:00 pm un l 1:00 pm in the St. Louise Conference Room. The Bible Study Group goes over the Sunday readings in depth and a discussion about them. There are Power Point presenta ons at each session to help understand the readings. All are welcome including non-catholics. LOUISE NEWS AND ACTIVITIES Page 7 NEW PASTORAL COUNCIL MEMBERS Ivan Caso Ivan Caso has been a parishioner at St. Louise since Ivan and his wife Laura were married at St. Louise in They have three boys who a end St. Louise School. I have always felt a sense of welcoming in the St. Louise community and will work to help others to feel the same way, said Ivan. Ivan enjoys par cipa ng in the Church and School ac vi es with his family. He serves as a member of the Pastoral Planning Commi ee and is a Den Leader for the Cub Scouts Troop 457. In addi on to the St. Louise ac vi es, Ivan has been ac ve with coaching youth basketball and soccer. His professional career has focused in construc on management of healthcare facili es. He studied at the USC School of Architecture. I hope to be able to use my professional experience in the construc on industry for the benefit of the Parish building improvements. Ivan feels blessed and honored to be a member of the Pastoral Council. Josh Diosomito Josh Diosomito is a Senior Homeland Security Analyst for a federal inves ga ve agency and an avid golfer and runner. Josh is humbled and honored to accept his posi on on the Pastoral Council. He is privileged to live out his Catholic faith at St. Louise as both a Lector and Eucharis c Minister and looks forward to leveraging his experience as a marriage ministry facilitator for the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Josh pledges to bring forth new ideas and perspec ves that will help ensure parishioners feel valued, respected, and appreciated as they call St. Louise their spiritual home. Josh is married to Melissa and they have one daughter, Maya. Greg Zampiello Greg and his wife Jennifer have been members of the St. Louise community since They have been married for eleven years and they have three children: two sons, Christopher and Ma hew, and an infant daughter, Angelina. Greg has been a teacher in the Charter Oak school district for over 15 years, working at both the elementary and high school levels. He currently teaches math and engineering at Charter Oak High School. In addi on to Pastoral Council, Greg has been involved in the Knights of Columbus, serving as the council s Recorder. His primary interest in serving on the Pastoral Council is working to help meet the different needs of parishioners and school families of the St. Louise community. As a parishioner and school parent in the St. Louise community, Greg is looking forward to serving the faith community in any capacity necessary.
