In the past, we have been able to offset that requirement by drawing on other revenue resources i.e. Christmas Fair, 300 Club, Bake Sales, Yard/Tag sales, etc. As a parish, all expenses should be paid by the offertory income and not by fundraisers. Fundraisers should be used for savings and incidentals that arise that are not budgeted. I would like to encourage everyone to prayerfully consider increasing their offertory pledge in thanksgiving to God for all that God has done for you, through the gift of his son Jesus Christ. Thank you for your generosity and continued dedication to our Parish. God Bless, Fr. Marc Thank you for your generosity! We will take up our monthly offering for the BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE FUND as a second collection this weekend February 2-3, Your generosity assists the Parish with the costs associated with the upkeep and maintenance of the Church, and with special projects within the Church. The God of All Grace #315 Psalm Response: I Will Sing of your Salvation Psalm #71 Preparation of the Gifts: O God, You Search Me #437 Mass Responses: Mass of Christ the Savior Holy #914 When We Eat this Bread #916 Amen #918 Lamb of God #919 CHURCH LANDSCAPING PROJECT The Parish has contracted with the Belknap Landscape Company to repair the front entryway of the church to include the steps, brick patio under the portico and the gap between the patio and walkway. The planned work is progressing nicely and with better weather conditions, the replacement of the steps and the surface beneath the portico will be finished soon and we will be able to use them. Communion: We Remember Closing: We Are Called #494 #617 The landscaping will be completed in the spring when the weather is more favorable for planting. Thanks to all who continue to donate to the Capital Campaign.
3 THE FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME He said to them, "Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."and all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, " Isn't this the son of Joseph?" - Lk 4:21-22 Today's Gospel is one of tension and contradiction. We enter the scene at the local synagogue. It is near the beginning of Jesus' earthly ministry, and he has returned home to Nazareth for a short while. There, in the midst of the men who watched him grow up and who played with him as a boy in the dusty streets, Jesus proclaims that he is the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies of Isaiah. The response is understandably mixed. "All spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, 'Isn't this the son of Joseph?'" Jesus reminds them - none too gently - of the Israelites' rejection of the prophets throughout history. Not only did the people ignore Elijah and Elisha, but they worked miracles among the pagans instead. Then comes the rage. "They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong." No one likes to be reminded of their own faults. In the deeply religious Jewish society, nobody wanted to be the unfaithful one. Jesus exposes the sins of the community, and it drives them not to conversion, but to rage. We can consider our own time. How often, when someone is contracted, do they quickly resort to anger, name-calling, and undermining the reputation of the other? How quickly we want to destroy! This Sunday, we ought to consider our own lives. Do we listen to the prophetic voices around us, even when they threaten to upturn our expectations? If we hear something difficult, something that reminds us of our own sin, do we accept the opportunity to prayerfully ponder? If we allow ourselves to be open to the prophetic voices in our own lives, we'll notice that God speaks through the unexpected, if we have ears to hear it. A floral arrangement placed in front of the altar for the Sunday Liturgy, can be purchased for an offering of $50, with an accompanying announcement in the weekly bulletin. PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Our parish began a program that encourages families and individuals to pray for vocations. The packet containing a crucifix, instructions, and prayers for the week to assist your daily prayer is handed out to volunteers at the conclusion of each weekend Mass. More volunteers are needed on both Saturdays and Sundays, so please sign up on the list provided in the Parish Hall. Questions? Please contact Leonard Campbell at or by at lsoup03@gmail.com. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY One of the most compassionate and hospitable things we do as a community is to host families who have experienced the death of a loved one. Breakfast or lunch is available in the Parish Hall following the Funeral Liturgy. We are looking for Volunteers to CONTRIBUTE FOOD items, (salads, sandwiches, or finger desserts). We are also looking for HELPERS to make sure things are set -up (place tablecloths and placemats, arrange food on platters, place food on buffet tables, etc.) and made ready for families, and to help clean things up after. We all work as a team, so helpers are called on to serve in a particular sequence that spreads out the work and time commitment. If you would like to volunteer for the Bereavement Ministry, please call the Parish Office at DIOCESAN CAMPS Camp Fatima for boys and Camp Bernadette for girls are now accepting online registrations for the 2019 summer season.
