You hear all the witnesses and observe the evidence. There s no doubt in your mind that the accused is guilty the criminal was even caught red-handed. How would you react if the judge decided to let the criminal go free? You d be shocked! Some scribes and Pharisees catch a woman in adultery, bring her to Jesus, and in accordance with the Jewish Law, plan to stone her. What do you think? they ask. But Jesus, seeing right through them, flips the spotlight from her to them. Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her (John 8:7). These pointed words remind us that we are all sinners. Like the scribes and Pharisees in the Gospels, we too can forget this fundamental truth. But Jesus is clear: this woman is just as precious and valuable to God as we are. She should be forgiven just as fully as we have been. There is no difference in Jesus eyes, and there should be no difference in ours as well. God wants us to treat everyone with the same dignity, respect, and honor that Jesus showed this woman. Rather than cast the first stone, he asks us to open our arms. Rather than talk to him about other people s sins, he urges us to repent of our own. So whether we consider ourselves worthy or unworthy of God s love, let s come to the Lord and ask for a taste of his mercy so that we can extend the gift of his open heart to everyone we meet saint and sinner alike!

Bruce Riebe) *The April 3 video presenter will be Fr. Thomas Loya, pastor of Annunciation Church in Homer Glen, Illinois. (All sessions will be held in the choir loft following the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts which begins at 7:00.) S.O.M.E. Friday This week you are encouraged to join in S.O.M.E. Friday (SoOthersMayEat). This is our annual event that combines all three traditional Lenten pillars. The idea is to skip a meal (fasting), come to the Lenten Service (prayer) and bring the money you saved from not having that meal (almsgiving) with you. The children from the ECF program will be actively involved in the service. Please have your child in the vestibule by 7:15 in order that roles can be assigned. The collection that night will be taken to St. Mary Hospitality House (serving a Tuesday meal every week at Holy Spirit Church in Parma) by some of our ECF children. (If you can t make it to church that evening but still fast from a meal, the loaves for your alms will be situated near the entry doors to the church on the weekend.) Lenten Services are offered daily. Check the schedule above for the times and description. Father s Easter message along with the Holy Week schedule should be in the mail by week s end. Watch for it! Graveside Vigil The sign-up poster for the Good Friday all-night vigil can be found in the vestibule. We are looking for people to cover one-hour time slots from after Vespers (9:00 p.m.) through Holy Saturday (3:00 p.m.). More than one person/family can sign-up for a specific time. Many people find this to be an excellent opportunity for meditation, prayer or spiritual reading. Confession Opportunities There will be some additional times afforded for the Sacrament of Confession. April 13 3:00-3:45 Palm Sunday 9:30-10:15 Holy Saturday 2:00-3:30 (Confessions are always available by appointment.)

4 As previously announced, we are having Lifetouch back for an updated pictorial directory. New parishioners or anyone who missed the last photo opportunity will be contacted for an appointment time. The date is May 13 (from 2-8) in the Education Center. Also, if you just want to have your picture taken again or your family dynamics have changed (new addition, marriage, death) you also can also reserve a time slot. Everyone who had their picture taken last year WILL RECEIVE an updated version of the directory (you don t need to have another picture taken). If you have any questions, contact Marie Ihnat at The Week Ahead The Men s Fellowship/Book Club will close out this session with a Monday gathering at 7:00 in the Education Center. The Advisory Board will meet on Tuesday at 7:00. Sandwich making will take place on Saturday, 9:30, in the Education Center. GCU Lodge Meeting GCU Lodge 302 will meet next Sunday after liturgy in the Activity Center. Thomas Sunday Potluck Next weekend the sign-up sheet will be posted for the Thomas Sunday Potluck scheduled for the Sunday after Easter right after liturgy. This coincides with the ECF end of the year closing ceremonies. Have you eaten at our Lenten Fish Fry yet? Come join us on Friday. Lunch is offered from 11:30-1:00. You can enjoy supper from 4-7. Sanctuary Lamp The sanctuary lamp will burn during the month of April in memory of Mickey and Jim Pinchot. Church Cleaning We re doing church cleaning on Friday nights following the Lenten Service. 5 GCU Lodge 302 is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for children (twelve and under) on Palm Sunday following the liturgy. Participants are asked to bring jars of peanut butter or jelly which will be forwarded to the St. Joseph Outreach Program (monetary donations will also be accepted). ByzanTEEN Day of Reflection A Lenten Day of Reflection for ByzanTEENS will be held on Palm Sunday at the Cathedral in Parma starting with lunch at 12:30. Nuns from Christ the Bridegroom Monastery will facilitate the afternoon (ending at 4:00). The theme is Journey with Jesus: Hosanna! Crucify Him! He is Risen!
