1 ST. ANNE PARISH February 18 th, st Sunday of Lent The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel. These sound like simple words from our short Gospel today. But it is fitting that Jesus begins his earthly ministry with this powerful message after the Spirit descended upon him at his baptism. He asks us to believe in the Gospel and embrace its message of humble service and discipleship. Genesis Peter Mark Pastor: Very Rev. Lorne Crozon V.G. Message from CCCB At the conclusion of his Angelus address this past Sunday, 4 February 2018, the Holy Father invited all the Church to observe the Friday of the first week of Lent, 23 February, as a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the many areas of conflict throughout the world, particularly the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. Other Christians and members of other faiths are also invited to share in this initiative in whatever way they deem appropriate. (Insert included.) Stewardship After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God. - Mark 1:14 Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a life of stewardship takes great love and trust from us. We must be willing to surrender completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfill His plan for us. Lenten Reflection on the Corporal Works of Mercy PART 2: There is a long-held tradition in the church to serve each other with Corporal Works of Mercy. Corporal Works of Mercy are the kind acts we offer to our neighbors to care for their material and physical needs. Give Drink to the Thirsty I will pour out water upon the thirsty ground, streams upon the dry land; I will pour out my spirit upon your offspring, my blessing upon your descendants. - Isaiah 44:3 There is a nobility in the duty to care for creation through little daily actions, and it is wonderful how education can bring about real changes in lifestyle. Education in environmental responsibility can encourage ways of acting which directly and significantly affect the world around us, such as avoiding the use of plastic and paper, reducing water consumption, separating refuse, cooking only what can reasonably be consumed, showing care for other living beings, using public transport or car-pooling, planting trees, turning off unnecessary lights, or any number of other practices. All of these reflect a generous and worthy creativity which brings out the best in human beings. Reusing something instead of immediately discarding it, when done for the right reasons, can be an act of love which expresses our own dignity. (Pope Francis Laudato Si para 211.) What can you do? Read Drop by Drop to your elementary age child or grandchildren. Read and reflect on Pope Francis' comments on potable water in his recent encyclical Laudato Si. (Part II Sections 27-31) Make a donation to a water project in the developing world. Read Safe Water For First Nations (canadians.org/fnwater). Write a letter to your MP asking for immediate action on improving water supplies on First Nations reserves. Examine your monthly water bill. Ask yourself how you might cut back on consumption. Share the money with a local shelter or soup kitchen. Examine how much you spend each month on bottled water. Make a conscious effort to reduce or eliminate this expense. Use the money saved to invest in reusable water bottles.
3 NONCIATURE APOSTOLIQUE Ottawa, February 6, 2018 APOSTOLIC NUNCIATURE N.1681/18 Your Excellency, As you will recall, last November 23rd, the Holy Father has presided a prayer vigil at the Vatican Basilica, for Peace in South Sudan and in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Considering the continuing socio-political tensions and violence perpetrated in these two countries, last Sunday February 4th, at the conclusion of the Angelus, Pope Francis has proposed a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and in the whole world, to be held on February 23rd next, Friday of the First week of Lent. To this regard, the Secretariat of State has asked this Apostolic Nunciature to inform the Episcopal Bishop's Conference of Canada of the deep desire of Pope Francis that all the Church be united with him in this day of prayer, in order to intercede from God the Father, infinite in His mercy, the conversion of hearts, especially of all those who hold the fate of these countries and those who in some way are involved. Each Bishop is invited to take the initiative they consider more appropriate to promote the participation of their particular Churches. I kindly ask Your Excellency to inform the Archbishops and Bishops of this special request of the Holy Father to join him in this day of prayer. Thanking Your Excellency for your collaboration, I remain Sincerely yours in the Lord, ~ ~.A,_.. l-?~ + Luigi Bonazzi Apostolic Nuncio His Excellency Most Reverend Lionel GENDRON, P.S.S. 4 Development and Peace - Share Lent 2018 Peacemaking calls for courage, much more so than warfare. It calls for the courage to say yes to encounter and no to conflict: yes to dialogue and no to violence; yes to negotiations and no to hostilities; yes to respect for agreements and no to acts of provocation; yes to sincerity and no to duplicity. All of this takes courage, it takes strength and tenacity. Pope Francis, Invocation for Peace, June 8, Together, let us continue to believe and pray that peace, human dignity, and justice can triumph. Let us seek pathways to unity which will lead to a just and lasting peace. Let us cultivate, hand in hand with our sisters and brothers in the Global South, the hope of a better world where we can live in tolerance and dignity. And let us pray that even in the semi-darkness, we have the strength to make light shine forth. Regina Pro-Life is hosting 40 Hours for Life from February 14 - March 25, 4:30-5:30 PM. This will take place daily in Regina on the north side of the General Hospital on 14th Avenue. Knowing that with God, all things are possible, people of faith and conscience unite in 40 days of prayer and fasting to change the minds and hearts of women and men who are considering abortion. Please join us to pray for those suffering. KAIROS Blanket Exercise at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, th Ave. Regina. We offer twice a month Formal and Informal Balanced Group Meetings that strive to help us grow in our faith. The meetings consist of Fellowship, Group Prayer, Games, Bible and Faith Studies, and more. Whether you're old to the group or new, we've all come from different walks of life and stem from different paths. Paths that lead us to crossroads like this, where we can encounter Christ together. For more information please contact Braden Novak bvaks11@gmail.com or Phone/Text: (306) Upcoming Meeting for the Archdiocesan CrossRoad Young Adult Group: February 25, - Christ the King Parish Singles For Christ, a ministry of Couples for Christ, invites unmarried men and women ages 21 to 40 years old to the Christian Life Program (CLP). This is an integrated course intended to lead the program participants into a renewed understanding of God`s call to them as Christians. Most sessions consist of three basic ingredients: a teaching, a group discussion, and a time for fellowship. Each session would normally last for about 2 1/2 hours. There are no fees, or any monetary expenses required from participants. The only investment required is time and openness. The program runs from February 25 to April 15, 2018 every Sunday, 3:30 PM at the Holy Rosary Cathedral Auditorium. For more details, please contact: Xiam (306) or Ara (306) The Archdiocese of Regina is asking Saskatchewan Artists for help raising funds for the education of priests The full cost of a seminary education is frequently beyond the reach of men who are discerning a call to the priesthood. Your support will ensure that our seminarians receive adequate tuition assistance, so that money is never an obstacle between a man and this sacred vocation. To start the fundraising, we are hosting an On-line Art Auction March 1. We are asking Canadian artists for donations of original art that will be promoted and auctioned on-line beginning March 1. There is something more personal about being able to give artwork rather than a monetary donation - you will be giving something of yourself - something you have created that will benefit us all. Tax receipts for the value of the artwork will be available. CONTACT: lburkhart@archregina.sk.ca Dine by Design to support the Cuernavaca Project.
