Jesus is beloved Son and fulfillment of God s promises. At this early point in our Lenten journey, our readings remind us of God s promises to humanity and his faithfulness to those promises. Full of the same hope that once spurred Abraham on to leave his homeland and Paul to preach the Gospel with commitment and fidelity, they now seek to encourage us in our Lenten disciplines.

2 ST. ANNE PARISH NEWS Nominations Nominations are being sought for the following Pastoral Council and Finance Council positions (for terms that expire this year): a) Finance Council Chair b) Liturgy Committee Chair c) Buildings and Grounds Nominations for these positions can be ed to David Kopriva at his address on the back of the bulletin. Camp Monahan Shamrocks Camp Monahan is owned by the Archdiocese of Regina and is a Knights of Columbus project. This will be the 75th summer of providing a Christian camping experience for children. The Camp Monahan Shamrock Drive has always proven to be a valuable fund-raising event and we thank you for your support. The Knights of Columbus will be selling Shamrocks after Mass again this year. The funds are used to help maintain the Camp and support the children attending camp. Tax charity receipts will be issued for donations made by cheque. Food Donations This past week, we were able to help a family in need. Mom and her 3 children have been through some really hard times. Mom's mother died and as a result Mom had some mental health issues and lost her job. Then her children needed to go into foster care. Mom has now regained her health and with the help of Catholic Family Services and Social Services, she has regained custody of her children ages 8, 6 and 2. For the time being, she is on social assistance and while setting up their home Mom is finding it difficult to get enough food for her family. Social Assistance allows $75 for the first grocery shop. She has applied to receive the Child Tax Benefit, but it won't start for 3 or 4 months. She has visited the food bank and received only 1 grocery bag of items. Some of that was cookies and pastries. She has visited other places in the city to no avail. As a last resort they came to our parish and thanks to your generous donations we were able to help her out. It is in these dire circumstances that we are privileged to be able to live out our Gospel values -- feeding the hungry. Altar Servers There will be a workshop on Saturday, March 23 at 10:00wam for all altar servers. CWL Easter Bake Sale Sunday, March 31 after Mass. Please label as to type of item, and whether nuts or nut products are present. Please drop off your baking at the hall before both masses that weekend. Donate or purchase a package and have a free single item with your coffee. Donations from all parishioners would be appreciated. Funds will go to CWL charities. Lenten Reflection on the Corporal Works of Mercy PART 3: There is a long-held tradition in the church to serve each other with Corporal Works of Mercy. Corporal Works of Mercy are the kind acts we offer to our neighbors to care for their material and physical needs. Clothe the Naked Solidarity presumes the creation of a new mindset which thinks in terms of community and the priority of the life of all over the appropriation of goods by a few. (Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, #188) Works of Mercy usually begin as acts of charity. Today it is essential that they become acts of justice to effect changes in structures that support poverty. What can you do? Donate gently used clothing to people in need. Next weekend we will collect new and gently used socks, gloves, and t-shirts for Marian Centre and Visitation House. Support stores that buy products from companies that pay workers just wages. Purchase your clothing from Fair Trade stores. Become advocates for products that are not made in sweat shops - companies that disrespect the rights of the workers in order to make a larger profit. Contact shelters, transition houses or Regina Open Door Society for a list of articles needed by persons who have taken refuge there and donate what you can. Donate new or gently used baby clothes to organizations that assist pregnant women like Birthright. Volunteer to assist older or disabled adults to shop for their clothing. Develop the practice of giving away one gently used article of clothing each time a new one is purchased. Hospitality SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, April 7, at 5pm. Please come and join our Cultural Potluck after Mass in the hall. Please coordinate with Pat Kopriva at for the food you would like to bring that is unique to your culture. This is in line with Solidarity Sunday.

3 ARCHDIOCESAN NEWS March 17, nd Sunday of Lent I am the Lord who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as a possession. (Genesis 15:7) Just as the Lord gave Abraham, Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether your home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do you show your gratitude to God for the home He has given you? Do you make a sacrifice of any kind? Do you return any of your finances to God, investing equally in your eternal home just as you invest in your earthly home? 13 Tuesday Devotions in Honor of St. Anthony Saint Anthony s Roman Catholic Parish (2275 Atkinson Street, Regina) invites you to the 13 Tuesday Devotions in Honor of Saint Anthony, beginning March 19 th at 7pm. These devotions were started in 1933 by Monsignor Gocki, parish founder. Each year, many faithful from around the city seek the intercession of our patron saint. The final celebration will be held June 13th, the feast day of Saint Anthony. St. Peter School Spring Splash Craft & Craft Show Please join us at St. Peter School located at 150 Argyle Street on March 22 from 6pm-9pm and March 23 from 10am to 4pm. We expect our trade show to be a sellout again! We will also have delicious food and baking for sale AND a great raffle prize to be won! Admission is FREE! Grab your sister, daughter, mom, roommate, etc. and come to the Blessed is She Lent Gathering at Christ the King on Saturday, March 24, from 7pm to 9pm. It is part of the global Share the Journey campaign launched by Pope Francis and Caritas Internationalis. The journey is one of faith, love and hope and "...is made by those who come to our land and by us, who go towards their heart..." (Pope Francis) It is rooted in the inherent dignity of each person. We are asked to first see the humanity of each migrant, to see Jesus in each person. Never have so many people fled war, persecution, natural disasters, extreme poverty, and resource development that doesn't include them. No one should be forced to flee their home. Lent is a time of preparation and introspection. At this time, we encourage you to make a concrete gesture of solidarity by making a contribution to the work of building a just world on Solidarity Sunday, April 7th. By taking action and donating to Development and Peace, you can make a real difference. There is an envelope in your Sunday giving set or you can find one on the table in the gathering area or the table in the entrance by the office. My Generation Youth Rally (My Gen) The My Generation Youth Rally (My Gen) will be held this year on March 30 th and 31 st. My Gen is a gathering of young people from all over the diocese who come together to do service, explore their faith and form new friendships! All young people in grades 9-12 are welcome to join us. Check out the website for promotional videos, more info and to register. Spots are limited, so register soon! Regina Regional CWL: Spring Meeting Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Holy Trinity Parish. The day begins with mass at 9:30 am, followed by the general meeting and a light lunch. We will conclude with a workshop on National Strategic Planning, led by Provincial CWL President, Margaret Schwab. We hope to see you all there!
