3 Today s Order of Service am This morning s service follows the Eucharistic Liturgy Thanksgiving and Praise commencing on page 76 in the red New Zealand Anglican Prayer Book; the tunes for most hymns may be found in Common Praise, the blue hymn book in the pews; Presider: Liturgist: Director of Music: The Very Rev d Ian Render, Dean of Waiapu Philip Pridmore Anthony Tattersall Opening Hymn: All creatures worship God most high 1 All creatures, worship God most high! Sound every voice in earth and sky: Sing, brother sun, in splendour bright, sing, sister moon and stars of night: Sing, brother fire, so warm and strong drive far the shadows, join the throng: Dear mother earth, so rich in care, praise God in colours bright and rare: Sing, brother wind; with clouds and rain you grow the gifts of fruit and grain: Dear sister water, flowing clear, make music for our God to hear: All who for love of God forgive, all who in pain or sorrow grieve: Christ bears your burdens and your fears; still make your song amid the tears: 5 O sisters, brothers, take your part, come worship God with humble heart: All creatures, bless the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Three-in-One: After St. Francis of Assisi Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen [CP50] Welcome: NZPB page: 76 Dean Ian Render The Gathering of the Community

4 NZPB page: 78-9 Confession / Forgiveness / Absolution Sentence: Collect: In Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. Corinthians 5: 19 Creator God, you created the world and all that is in it, you planted us as seeds into that world; may we flourish and grow and in turn sow seeds of love and compassion, justice and truth, hope and faith; through Jesus Christ, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever. Amen. Reading: Ezekiel 17: - Christine Scott Psalm 9: 1-, 1-15 Reading: Corinthians 5: 6-10 (11-1) 1-17 Hugo Powrie Gradual Hymn: As trees from tiny seeds can grow Tune: O Waly Waly 1 As trees from tiny seeds can grow, as yeast expands the lifeless dough, as light, unhampered, shines around so does God s gracious love abound. As hidden treasure is reclaimed, we, God s new people, are re-named. For us the pearl, long-sought, is found. Christ is our treasure, sure and sound. We are not promised weed-less fields, nor are we given equal yields. But God s true faithfulness shall stay with us, supporting all the way. As coins, once lost, are found with joy, as Jesus loves each girl and boy, so we, now found by God, rejoice, lifting in praise, one heart one voice. Words: 1981 Jane Parker Huber Alt.tune: O Waly Waly A Singing Faith #7 Gospel Reading: Mark : 6- Dean Ian Render

5 The Sermon: Dean Ian Render NZPB page: 81 The Affirmation of Faith / He Tikanga Whakapono NZPB page: 8 The Prayers of the People led by Elisabeth Paterson NZPB page: 185 The Peace Dean Ian Render We greet the people near us, saying Peace be with you / Kia tau te rangimarie. During the next hymn the bread and wine, symbols of Christ s life, are brought to the altar; our offerings of money that support the mission and ministry of the Cathedral are collected and brought forward also. Offertory Hymn: We meet as friends at table tune: Ellacombe [CP157] 1 We meet as friends at table, to listen, and be heard, united by the Spirit, attentive to the Word. Through prayer and conversation we tune our varied views to Christ, whose love has made us the bearers of good news. With food and drink for sharing the table soon is spread. The freedom meal of Jesus is crowned with wine and bread, and all, without exception, may eat, and speak, and stay, for this is Christ's own table where none are turned away. We share our lives and longings, and when the meal is done we pray as friends at table, and promise to be one. To Christ, and to each other, we cheerfully belong: apart, our hope is fruitless; together, we are strong. Fulfilled, and glad to follow wherever Christ may lead, we journey from the table to love a world in need with patience, truth and kindness, that justice may increase and all may sit at table in freedom, joy, and peace. Words: Brian Wren 1996 Hope Publishing Worship & Rejoice #70 NZPB page: 85 NZPB page: 88 NZPB page: 89 The Preparation of the Gifts The Great Thanksgiving The Lord s Prayer The Invitation 5

6 All are welcome to share the bread and wine of Christ s life, or to receive a blessing - please come to the altar rails via the centre aisle and return to your seats via the side aisles (or use the ramp if necessary and take a place at the rear altar rail). Please advise an usher if you need to have communion served in your seat. NZPB page: 90 Prayer after communion The Blessing: We share notices and news Closing Hymn: Holy Presence, Holy Teacher Tune: Abbot s Leigh 1 Holy Presence, Holy Teacher, Light illumining our lives, in the compass of Your wisdom all our work and worship thrives: lead us when we sense Your calling till we find our chosen field, following your hand s direction, honouring your truth revealed. By our nurture, by our culture every life is shaped to grow, fed by long tradition s learning, formed by mentors as we go; tune our ears to hear the gospel questioning accepted thought, ready to respect each other, see the gifts that each has brought. Yours the world of power and beauty, ours the task to tend its needs, day by day in cheerful service growing faith like mustard seeds, striving in unlikely places, standing where indeed we must, acting from compelling conscience, working for what s fair and just. God, we pray for understanding in our study, in our goals, charges that will change and challenge, vision to inspire our souls, that this place for mind s reflection, faith examined, word addressed, be a witness to your teaching, and our faithful search be blessed. Words: Shirley Erena Murray The Dismissal: Go now to love and serve the Lord. Go in peace. Amen. We go in the name of Christ. Organ Voluntary: Hymns reproduced with permission under CCLI Licence #
