1 Saints Alive! All Saints Lutheran Church 630 S. Quentin Road Palatine, IL The Newsletter of All Saints Lutheran Church of Palatine May 2016 This year we celebrate Pentecost on Sunday, May 15. Wear red to symbolize the Holy Spirit and come to worship (8:30 and 11) expecting the Holy Spirit to show up! Summer is Coming Beginning with Memorial Day weekend (May 28-29), All Saints will be moving to a summer worship schedule. Saturdays, beginning May 28, we will worship at 5:00. The Saturday service is piano-accompanied and a simple "summer-time" liturgy, featuring Holy Communion as always. Sundays, beginning May 29, we will worship at 9 am. These services will feature all of the liturgies and styles that we use all throughout the year. Youth Group Transition After more than 30 years of faithfully leading our High School Youth Ministry, Kevin and Linda Kinsella are stepping down from that role. The first (and most important) thing is that we want to thank them for this faithful ministry. Come and join in a time of thanksgiving during the May 22 8:30 service. After that worship service, the Kinsellas and the Youth Group will head out to an end-of-theyear picnic. Join us. Also we ve been listening to parents (and other interested adults) and young people about their hopes and dreams for the future of High School Youth Ministry at All Saints. A plan and leadership team are coming together. Stay tuned for all the details as we ramp up for and beyond! Summer Suppers Begin May 11 All Saints participation in the summer-long ecumenical program to feed the hungry in the Northwest suburbs, will resume Wednesday, May 11. The once-a-month Summer Suppers are an ideal opportunity for families with teens and tweens to volunteer together; Confirmation students can use Summer Suppers to accumulate service hours. We will open our doors and serve a community meal on the second Wednesday of May, June, July, August and September the months when the PADS shelters are closed. Holden Evening Prayer worship is at 7:30 p.m. on the same night as Summer Supper and members of the congregation are welcome to be part of the community and come for supper before worship. Supper is served starting at 6:30 p.m. and the doors close at 8 p.m. Although the program was designed to provide nutritious meals for homeless persons during summer, all are welcome. All Saints posts information about the suppers at both the Palatine and Rolling Meadows Senior Centers and distributes flyers at both the Palatine Township and Bethel food pantries Members can support the program by helping serve and clean up, cooking or buying food or making by a donation. Each night we need a dozen volunteers as well as food-donors to cook and shop for the meals we serve. Volunteers each night work 2½ hour shifts starting at either 5:30 or 6 p.m. No training is required although youth volunteers must work with a parent. A sign-up book is on the narthex table. Send to PADS@AllSaintsPalatine.org if you want more information.

The basic answer is: ANYTHING METAL which includes household utensils, lawn Committees Need You Do you have a few hours a month to make All Saints a stronger place? We could use your help. You could help by joining a committee. It s not as boring as it sounds. Each committee operates a little differently, but mostly you meet once per month and share your ideas and perhaps take on a small task or two. That s it. But it makes a world of difference. If you d like to help, we could use you with our Worship, Property (building maintenance), Outreach (making All Saints known in the community), Stewardship (helping us use all of our time and talents and treasure wisely), Technology (computers and IT), Financial Support (money, money, money), Learning, Social Ministry and other Committees. Talk with either of the pastors and we ll get you hooked up. Faith and Fellowship Group Meet before heading to the office or the rest of your day for Bible Study and conversation at 7:00 am on Wednesday mornings at Red Apple (2121 S Plum Grove Rd. in Palatine). We will pray God s blessing for safety and joy this summer season. PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONIC ITEMS TO CHURCH. Smaller items can be dropped off under the cloak rack in Gathering Space.
