Whether this is your first time here or if you have lost count, thank you for coming! Communion is served weekly at St. John s, and all are welcome to receive it; wine, grape juice, and gluten-free wafers are available. 2 A Year of Growing...in faith WELCOME! God is here for you. Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. If you have a prayer of celebration or concern that you would like included in the prayers, please complete the white card located in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate during the offering. FRIENDS Welcome! Thank you for worshiping at St. John s today. You are welcome to participate in every part of the worship service, including Holy Communion. Confession and Forgiveness In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. Amen. Prayer of the Day Lord of all, in Jesus you have made us all sisters and brothers in Christ. There is no distinction between Gentile and Jew. There is no separation that can remove any from fellowship in Christ s community. Sermon Pastor Mark Special Music Love Lifted Me Barbary Coast Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Thank you for all the ways you live by God s grace, sharing from what you have to empower the mission and ministry to which God has called us as St. John s Lutheran Church. Used by permission. All rights reserved. BARBARY COAST St. John s is thrilled to be hosting The Barbary Coast Dixieland Band this morning in worship! The band has been together since Elected to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2001 and rated among the finest entertainers in the Midwest, the band has played everywhere from the Mississippi paddle wheel boats and the Minnesota State Fair, to Nagasaki, Japan. The band is made up of six talented musicians who play 18 instruments. Led by left-handed banjo/guitar player Dick Petersen, the band includes Tom Andrews on drums, clarinet, and vocals; Jim ten Bensel on trombone, cornet/trumpet, and vocals; Russ Peterson on trumpet, trombone, sax, clarinet, flute, bass, and vocals; Steve Pikal on bass and trombone; and Art Katzman on trombone. This group of versatile musicians, who occasionally swap instruments on stage without missing a note, will have your feet tappin from their very first set!
