We have a new State President in Robert Ferrito of the Calandra Lodge and wish him much success. We also thank Carolyn Reres from our sister lodge the America Lodge - for her exceptional leadership the last 2 years. For Cellini, our own brother Luigi Squillante moved one step closer to the top becoming State Financial Secretary accolades to Luigi. We did a lot more at the Convention with committees and appointments as I laid out in the June general meeting and you can see in the minutes. On the whole, you as lodge members should be proud of your delegates. Our donations were appreciated and I would have to single out Gina Ferrara and a $5k donation from a retired executive of her company for the Garibald-Meucci Museum; we received a nice round of applause for this large donation. And for the 2 nd year in a row Cellini sold the winning $20k state raffle ticket. Grace Ferrara in her State position sold the winning ticket to a Cellini member: Vincent Lanza Jr. Thank you to all that bought full or partial tickets, we sold a lot and the state was thankful (Luigi being chairperson and myself persuading many of you to purchase). Better luck next year (and Cellini seems to have it). beach, family and have a blast (pun intended) watching the fireworks. It s always good to remind ourselves that we celebrate American Independence Day on the Fourth of July every year. We think of July 4, 1776, as a day that represents the Declaration of Independence and the birth of the United States of America as an independent nation. There s plenty to do in July we have an annual fishing trip, and a football wedding and culture night. New members these are great events to meet and mingle. In addition, the State OSIA is having a free event: Italian Night at Eisenhower Park on July 10 (reason we changed our general meeting). So please use this newsletter to carefully go through all the events we conduct and read your State Golden Lion newsletter to see what is be offered by the State. This is a very important and happy event in which we give back to our young scholars; a culmination of all of our hard work and to the monies donated by former and current Cellini members that created scholarship funds. Joe Sciame did a great job as committee chair and the committee team deserves many thanks. Most of all congratulations go to all the students who received scholarships and their family members who recommended them. As I write this newsletter it is not quite Father s Day. And since you will receive it after, I say to all Dads: I hope you enjoyed you special day. Fathers come in many forms: biological, foster, adopted, step, grand, god, figure etc. And we also speak often about forefathers. Thanks to our forefathers we are all Americans. DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSES Defensive Driving Course By Gerard Merollas Cellini Lodge will be sponsoring two more AARP defensive driving courses at the Cellini Lodge Office, 2208 Jericho Turnpike. The classes, are now open to drivers age 18 and older with a New York State driver s license and will be held on August 5 and November 11, Seating for each class is limited, therefore, anyone wishing to attend must contact Jerry Merolla at (516) to register and have a seat reserved. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members.
