1 PUBLISHED BY CELLINI LODGE NO ORDER SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA CELLINI NEWS VOLUME 48 SEPTEMBER 2016 NUMBER 9 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Cari Fratelli e Sorelle di Cellini, Happy Labor Day to all members and their families! Wishing everyone a happy and safe September and fall!!! I sit here writing this newsletter just coming home from the last day of the feast. I feel somewhat conflicted; I am proud that we have held another successful feast, but this is my last feast as your President. With that comes many mixed emotions, not only for the feast itself but for the two years gone by. The ghosts of all our fallen members are still alive and well during this time of year. As I walk around the feast I can still see Candy making the sauce and Mickey dropping the 23 Zeppoles and I will never forget Marie in the ticket booth and most recently Barbara and her bell at the pull aparts, and so many others that we have lost but will never forget! If for no other reason, let us come together once a year to honor these fantastic people who have touch all of us during our Cellini years. Being President is no easy task, at times decisions are made they may not always be popular but need to be made for the benefit of the Lodge. The goal of any President it to make decisions that benefit the Lodge and I know that within my two years I definitely gave my all to our members and the Lodge. This has been a crazy and emotional ride, but I am so privileged to be the President of Cellini Lodge. Being able to join all our wonderful past leaders that have each left a mark in Cellini s history. For that I thank you. Please remember to mark your calendars for our Feast Thank You on September 16 th. I expect to see everyone there; we all deserve some time to relax, have fun and enjoy our success. I would like to share a poem with you that summarizes what we are all about, it s called BROTHERHOOD. Side by side we work; Brothers and Sisters by choice More than a shake of a hand Damned for the choices we make Wanting to be felt and heard Like the desperados of old Riding together being bold From old and young From large to small From sunrise to sunset Success is what we long to feel Brothers and Sisters in arms protecting each other from harm Brothers and Sisters not by blood But family still and always we show love (Modified by me) As far as the Feast is concerned, I want to give a big THANK YOU to Mark Ventimiglia. As all Chair persons before him, Mark had many obstacles to face and he handled then just and fair. He was always present, took control and led this feast with dignity. To all the various committee Chair-People thank you for all the hard work and dedication, not only this year but during my two years a Feast Chair person and my two years as President. I have always said that the volunteers are what makes our Feast successful, without all of you we could not do what we do. Orgoglio in Eredita Porta Unita Pride in Heritage brings Unity! Sincerely, Alfonso Squillante Alfonso Squillante, President Cellini Lodge # th Anniversary Year 2016

If you will take the time to read these. I promise you'll come away with an enlightened perspective. The subjects covered affect us all on a daily basis. They're written by the late Andy Rooney (ex-60 Minutes USA), a man who had the gift of saying so much with so few words. Enjoy... I've learned... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person I've learned... That when you're in love, it shows. I've learned... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day. I've learned... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world. I've learned... That being kind is more important than being right. I've learned... That you should never say no to a gift from a child. I've learned... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way. I've learned... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with. I've learned... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand. I've learned... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult. I've learned... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes. I've learned... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for. I've learned... That money doesn't buy class. I've learned... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular. I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved. I've learned... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts. I've learned... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you. I've learned... That love, not time, heals all wounds. I've learned... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am. I've learned... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile. I've learned... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them. I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher. I've learned... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss. I've learned... That when you harbour bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere. I've learned... That I wish I could have told my Mum and Dad that I love them one more time before they passed away. I've learned... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them. I've learned... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. I've learned... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life. I've learned... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it. I've learned... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
