1 First United Methodist Church A vital church connecting with God and with each other driven to serve 516 Kellogg Ave. Ames, Iowa :30 June 17, 2012 Welcome to our Saturday evening service. The words to the songs that we will be singing are provided in this program. Please feel free to join in. GATHERING IN GOD S LOVE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Song Awesome In This Place As I come into Your presence, past the gates of praise, into Your sanctuary till we re standing face to face. I look upon Your countenance, I see the fullness of Your grace. And I can only bow down and say, You are awesome in this place, Mighty God. You are awesome in this place, Abba Father. You are worthy of all praise, to You our lives we raise. You are awesome in this place, Mighty God. Copyright 1992 Integrity s Hosanna! Music Used by permission CCL# Song The Heart Of Worship When the music fades, and all is stripped away and I simply come, longing just to bring something that's of worth, that will bless Your heart. Chorus: I'll bring You more than a song - for a song in itself is not what You have required. You search much deeper within - through the way things appear; You're looking into my heart. I'm comin' back to the heart of worship, and it's all about You - it's all about You, Jesus. I'm sorry, Lord, for the thing I've made it, when it's all about You, it's all about You, Jesus. King of endless worth, no one could express, how much You deserve. Though I'm weak and poor, all I have is Yours, ev'ry single breath. Chorus Copyright 1997 Kingsway's Thankyou Music/PRS Used by permission CCL#943496
2 Song Love You So Much Hear these praises from a grateful heart; Each time I think of You, the praises start. Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. Lord I love You, my soul sings; In Your presence, carried on Your wings, Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. How my soul longs for You; Longs to worship You forever in Your power and majesty. Lift my hands, lift my heart, lift my voice towards the heavens; For You are my sun and shield. Hear these praises form a grateful heart; Each time I think of You, the praises start. Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. (repeat) Lift my hands, lift my heart, lift my voice towards the heavens; For You are my sun and shield. Hear these praises form a grateful heart; Each time I think of You, the praises start. Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. Love You so much, Jesus; Love You so much. O let Him have the things that hold you and His Spirit like a dove, will descend upon your life and make you whole. Chorus: Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs, Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill Your lambs. O come and sing this song with gladness as your hearts are filled with joy. Lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name. O give Him all your tears and sadness, give Him all your years of pain and you ll enter into life in Jesus name. Chorus Prayer followed by chorus Copyright 1986 Mercy Pub. Admin by Maranatha! Music. Used by permission CCL#
3 SCRIPTURE 1 Samuel 15:34-16:13 WITNESS TO THE WORD What Matters... Pastor Fred Lewis Song I Can Hear Your Voice I m in the river that flows from Your throne, water of life, water of life. It covers me, and I breathe again. Your love is breath to my soul. I can hear Your voice as You sing over me. It s Your song of hope breathing life into me. I can feel Your touch as I come close to You, and it heals my heart. You restore and renew. (repeat) I can feel Your touch as I come close to You, and it heals my heart. You restore and renew. Smith, Debbie Smith and Whitney Smith Used by permission CCL# A TIME TO REFLECT, MEDITATE, CONNECT WITH GOD THE LORD S PRAYER Song Shout To The Lord My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like you, all of my days, I want to praise the wonders of your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength, let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship you. Chorus: Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing, power and majesty, praise to the King. Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name. I sing for joy at the work of Your hands, forever I ll love you, forever I ll stand. Nothing compares to the promise I have in You. Copyright 1993 Hillsongs Australia Used by permission CCL#

10 The Turtle on the Post Two retired men met for dinner one evening. They began to talk about the influence their fathers had on them. One man, Ev, recalled that every time something went wrong his father would remark, 'Well, remember the turtle on the post,' then the father would walk away. Ev did not pay much attention to what the father was communicating. However, when Ev was a college student and a bit more mature and prone to listen to his father, he heard his dad make the statement again. 'Remember the turtle on the post.' Then the father turned and started to walk away. It was then that Ev stopped him, 'Well, Dad,' he said, 'what about the turtle on the post? You always say that and walk away. What do you mean?' The father looked at the young man and said, 'Do you know how the turtle got up on the post?' 'No,' answered Ev. A Father's Love In all that you do, a dad s love plays a part. There s always a place for him deep in your heart. And each year that passes, you re even more glad, More grateful and proud just to call him your dad! Author unknown 'No?' replied the father, 'Well, he had help.' Think about it. Where would we be without family members, friends or fellow Christians to help, advise and encourage us? The turtle needed help and so do we. 'In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others' (Romans 12:5). -A true story told by Ev to Charles Ferrell 10
