1 East District A Publication of The Good News of the East District May 2017 Edition 36 ~ Issue 42 EAST DISTRICT RALLY REPORT The East District Rally was held on April 23rd at Broadway FCOG in West Liberty, Ky. We were blessed with a great service as churches from all across East District came to worship together. The sanctuary was filled to capacity with 17 different congregations represented. The gospel group, Drawing Nigh, from Stanton FCOG provided the singing for the pre-service as well as specials during the worship service. They did an outstanding job. The Worship Leader for this Rally was Pastor Marvin Hobbs from Torrent FCOG. Our guest speaker was Pastor Cecil Ison from Clearfield Tabernacle FCOG. Pastor Cecil shared a wonderful message from I Thessalonians 5: The offertory prayer was given by Pastor Bill Carpenter from Bowen FCOG. The offertory song was sung by Pastor Weston Fike, from Pine Crest FCOG. The service concluded with Chairman Jeff Justice honoring Pastor David and Mary Stamper from Trent FCOG, with a Certificate of Appreciation and a gift card. The Stamper s have been in the ministry for the past 27 years and have served as Pastor for the past 23 years at the Trent FCOG. We would like to thank Pastor Karl and Lee Elam and the Broadway FCOG for hosting this Rally, as well as, the delicious food they provided for our time of fellowship after the service. The next East District Rally will be held at the Meade Station COG in Boyd County, on May 21 st. The preservice will begin at 5:30 PM with special singing being provided by Kevin Conley from Little Paint FCOG. The worship service will begin at 6:00 PM with guest speaker, Pastor Trey Parsons from Grandview COG. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this special service. Bro. 2 From the Desk of. The East District COG Vice Chairman Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I m sure most have seen the movie Forest Gump. As he sits on the park bench he tells his life s story to anyone who will listen for a while. In one particular scene he offers the person a piece of chocolate. He then responds with Life is a lot like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get. That line makes me think of James 1:2-4, My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Here s one reason why, when God allows a temptation/trial in your life, you never know what you re going to get. He allows various things and circumstances to come into our life to make us better not bitter. He allows them not because he wants us to sour, but to be strengthened. That s probably why James said we should Count it all joy. He knew, as we should know, that nothing comes into our life that God doesn t allow or that He didn t know about. James knew that God was perfecting him through the various situations of life, so that he would come to the conclusion, that all he really needed whether times were good or times were bad, was God. I think the key word is LET. We need to LET God work in us and we ll discover He truly is all we need. Now, truth is, this is easier written or said than it is lived.
