1 Kentucky Christian Women Connection Where Every Woman has a Place, And Every Woman Takes Her Place Patsy Daugherty, President 250 Clay Lane, Richmond, KY Patsy.daugherty@eku.edu December 2017 Volume 1 Issue 9 ROOTED IN CHRIST As I promised in the October issue of this newsletter, over the next few months, leading up to April, 2018, I will be discussing how to build relationships and mentor others to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Last month, two things were requested of you. 1. Pray that the Lord Jesus Christ will place a strong and powerful love in your heart for others. If you think you love people already and you do, ask Christ again to do more in your heart. 2. Pray that the Lord will pu a specific person on your heart and mind. Ask Him to make it really clear to you. He will. As we begin, it is very important to note that in the early years of the Jewish tradition, and likely the one in which Jesus grew, a young disciple would sit, closely, at the feet of the Rabbi to learn and hear from him. In like manner, the disciples would walk so close behind the Rabbi from whom they wanted to learn, that the dust from the shuffle of the Rabbi s feet on the dusty road would land on the disciple. So, the more dust you had on your garments, the closer you were walking to the Rabbi. I invite you and challenge you, as well as myself, to sit close to Jesus feet and walk close to Him that you will be covered with His dust. Let s get dusty! As the need for the gospel grows and, in Nora Hunter s words, the fields get broader, so does the need to maintain gospel-centered focus and faithfulness. 1 There is MUCH to do but all that we do should be in His Name. That s where mentoring and building deeper relationships with Jesus comes in. Jesus example for training the disciples is clearly found in Luke 9:51-11:13. Mentoring involved the basics of what it means to follow Jesus, including mission, commitment, love for the Lord thy God, love for neighbors, devotion to Jesus and His teaching, and prayer. Disciples of Jesus were those who followed Him closer than any other and essentially attached themselves to Him that He could shape their lives. 2 This shaping of lives is the modern day mentoring concept. So how do we begin? We begin at the feet of Jesus, following Him so closely that His dust and His aroma lingers on us. ( Rooted in Christ ) 1 Phil A. 2 Remember Jesus the Christ is the source of all strength, the source of all vision, the source of all that makes our missional group meaningful in the Kingdom of God. Let s draw closer to Him and connect with Him, first. Blessings to you as you serve the One who gives all. And, MERRY CHRISTMAS. News from November: I want to make sure you see this so it is included again from last month. On November 4, the Membership Committee for KY CWC met at the Kentucky Ministries state office in Winchester. Serving on that Committee were Connie Gardner, Peggy Prater, Ruby Rice, Martha Williams, Lorie Daugherty, Brittany Crutcher, Brittany Brown and Patsy Daugherty. We had a very healthy, vibrant meeting regarding the how-to s of building membership in the KY CWC. You will be hearing more on this topic in the months leading up to April Growing membership equates to increasing and improving what we can do for the Kingdom. We discussed ways to add new local groups, grow membership in existing Some more News: Attending the East District Christmas Banquet at Natural Bridge State Park from Christian Women Connection State Board were Ruby Rice, Rachel Addison, and Patsy Daugherty. Several other CWC ladies were there too, including, Portia Justice, Margaret Banks, Sheree Good, Alma Hutchinson, Judy Fuller (almost CWC). If I missed anyone, please let me know. There will not be an e-connect for December, but look for the Rooted in Christ article in the OUTLOOK a biannual newsletter. Some will come via and others will come postal. Still to Come: o Christ s Birthday Observance is the month of December. You probably have received your packet of information already, have distributed the Meditation Journal and reminded Church leaders to announce and set a date for the offering. There are some videos on You Tube you can also play during Advent. There is a good one on Peace and another on Hope. o You might want to remind your donors that all their contributions are forwarded to the National Office for support of missions and mission related efforts. o The ByLaws Committee will be meeting on January 6 to complete the revisions of the bylaws for KYCWC. The most recent version we have was written in If you would like to serve on this committee, will you send Patsy Daugherty a text, , Fb message or call. Otherwise, the Committee will be Wanda Lingerfelt, Patsy Daugherty, Peggy Prater, Connie Gardner. o Feb the KYCWC Executive Board will be meeting at Hope Hill to plan the convention and the next year. We will work on Friday at Hope Hill in some sort of service project. 2

3 Something Else: o The next big state-wide event is April 13-14, 2018, the KY Christian Women Connection State Convention in Paintsville, KY. Please begin your plans for this event now. You maybe could add the registration to your Christmas wish list! All of the local Presidents now have a copy of the book, Madam President: the Story of Nora Hunter. The State Executive Board and the Membership Committee is asking that they read this and then initiate a 6-session study in each local group. The intent is that we all remember why CWC started in the first place. Here is a starter for you. What scripture came to Sis. Nora s mind as she was praying and waiting upon the Lord to use her? MORE PRAYERS PLEASE: KEEP PRAYING that the Holy Spirit will move among us as hosts for Christ. Pray that we may charge on the spiritual enemies with a full armour in His Name. Just wrap some personal hygiene products into a towel. Things like toothpaste, tooth brush, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, wash cloth. We are so excited to be back in Paintsville this coming year for convention and we hope that you will be able to join us! We are excited to announce that we will be decorating the lobby with CWC Chapter Flags! This means that we need your help! At your upcoming meetings, please share this message with your fellow CWC sisters. We are requesting that every chapter bring a flag, with the dimensions and requirements as follows... - One flag sized 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall - The flag may be of any material, but must have a loop sewn across the entire top. - A dowel rod that is 40" long should be brought with the flag (this will go through the loop at the top so that we can hang it from the banister) This can be 1/2" diameter or so, no need to buy a very thick one. - Your CWC chapter name should be represented somewhere on the flag - You may theme it to the 2018 convention (The theme for is "Living Water" and the scripture is John 4:10), or choose not to. There is no specific theme you must abide by. - Have fun! This activity should be one that brings your chapter together for an arts and crafts night. Share ideas, and invite everyone to convention to see it. Who knows! you may just win Best Flag.
