Daily Proceedings FIRST DAY Thursday, June 13, 2013 Evening Session, 7:00 pm There was a prelude by Bair Fuergutz and the worship team, who led in the singing of The Name of the Lord is a Strong Tower and Blessed be the Name of the Lord. District Superintendent, Earl Wood, welcomed everyone to the opening service of the 58 th District Assembly. He thanked General Superintendent Dr. and Mrs. Patty Warrick for coming and gave a brief vignette of Dr. Warrick s background. Dr. Warrick has pastured many churches but has never been a District Superintendent. Earl Wood expressed gratitude for their attendance. District Superintendent, Earl Wood, also introduced Canadian missionaries John and Laurie and welcomed them. District Superintendent, Earl Wood, then gave a little background on Blair Fuergutz from the Guildford church. Blair led in the reading of 1 Chronicles 16:8-10 then he and the worship team led in the singing of Spirit of the Living God, Hallelujah, Your Love Makes Me Sing, Amazing Love, and And Can It Be. District Superintendent, Earl Wood, introduced this year s slogan: Better Together ~ Stronger Together which is built on last year s theme. To help everyone visualize the meaning, District Superintendent, Earl Wood, introduced Barry McLeod who works with troubled teens and Youth for Christ. Meanwhile everyone was handed a length of wool. Mr. McLeod told us that the average working life of a youth worker is 3.9 years. He told us of a conference where there was a worship life room in which they used art as a means of visually being involved in something to learn about worship. He quoted Ecclesiastes 4:9 &10 Two people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. He had everyone gather in groups of at least three, tie their wool together at one end and braid the strands together to make a stronger line. He demonstrated the differenced in the strength. He asked for examples of how that relates to the Christian life. Bearing each other s burdens, praying for each other, etc. were examples. District Superintendent, Earl Wood, introduced video segments from the Tagish and Chilliwack churches. The Tagish Community Church, near Whitehorse, started in May 2010 and is administered by Rev. Norayr Hajian and the Whitehorse church. Two services are held each month in a private home; services are traditional but relaxed. Tagish is not yet registered as a church plant. They look forward to reaching out into the community as there is no other church presence in the area. Prayer and support would be appreciated. The video on the Chilliwack church, led by Rev. Graham and Karyn McMahon, explained that the first year was spent listening to God, the neighbours, the neighbourhood and to each other which has led to many new relationships. Within a month the McMahon s knew of a family of six who needed a place to live. Out of that experience a new family joined the group whose home is where meetings are now held. New opportunities are opening up in the school community. We learned that the first block party in 60 years was held. The video mentioned 35
