1 THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA LONDON CONFERENCE PEARCE WILLIAMS CHRISTIAN CENTRE ELGIN PRESBYTERY April 17, 2012 Page PRESBYTERY MINUTES CONSTITUTION The April 17, 2012 meeting of Elgin Presbytery was held at Pearce Williams Christian Centre. The meeting was constituted as a court of the church by Chairperson Rev. Diane Macpherson. A quorum was present. WELCOME Chairperson, Rev. Diane Macpherson welcomed presbyters to the April meeting of Elgin Presbytery. WORSHIP AND PRESENTATION BY PEARCE WILLLIAMS CHRISTIAN CENTRE Joe Richards, executive director, of PWCC led in worship with singing. Rebecca Wheeler, board chair, welcomed presbyters to the Centre and invited all to look around at the facilities. Bonnie Vowel, chair, and Leta West, co-chair of the Called to Grow Capital Campaign introduced the exciting plans for the Centre with maps and site plans of the area. The Campaign is to raise $4.5 million to complete all the plans. Question by the presbyters were answered by the Campaign leaders. 2 Page ELGIN PRESBYTERY BUSINESS FROM THE MINUTES The Visioning Committee reported a good turnout of people from various Elgin Presbytery congregations attended the Visioning Workshop. FAITH FORMATION--- no report FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION There was no treasurer s report for today. F&A met with Fingal to discuss the dispersement of funds from sale of their church. Committee will meet again with Fingal trustees to finalize the dispersment. --It was moved and seconded that a letter be sent to Sparta United Church requesting a congregational meeting to discuss the disbanding of the congregation. Abstentions Rev. Ethel Miner Clare, Roberta Gillard --Grace United Church, St. Thomas is looking into cost of demolition of the church.

It was moved and seconded to approve the Fair Market Value for Wallacetown United Church, the legal description of LT22 LK K PL44 Dunwich Dutton/Dunwich located at 10 Argyle Street, Wallacetown, On. having a measurement of feet frontage by a depth of 132 feet be $99,900. It was moved and seconded that Elgin Presbytery approve the listing price of $99,900 for Wallacetown United Church, the legal description of LT22 BLK K PL44 Dunwich Duttion Dunwich located at 10 Argyle Street, Wallacetown, On. Having a measurement of feet frontage by a depth of 132 feet be $99,900. The listing price will include the windows by not the pews --Chalmers United Church (Cowal) two letters forth coming of Fair Market Value of the church building. --Bethany, Shedden will hold final church service on April 22, :30 a.m. Lunch to follow at the Keystone centre. It was moved and seconded to approve the Certificate of Secretary of Presbytery to Resolution of Giving Consent in the matter of the sale of Bethany United Church of Canada, Shedden --Straffordville manse no new information regarding the sale. MINISTRY PERSONNEL AND EDUCATION INTERNSHIP--- no report PENSIONS--- no report. Terry Lannning volunteered to be Pensions rep for MP&E committee SETTLEMENT- Conference Settlement committee meet on April 25, 2012 EDUCATION AND STUDENTS Rev. Cordell Parsons, and Rev. John Brown to interview Brin Carson. PASTORAL OVERSIGHT--- no report PASTORAL RELATIONS--- The committee has reviewed the viability study of Richmond/Malahide. Union United Church is in the JSC process. Rodney United Church JNAC is on the London Conference web site. Central United Church letter to be sent --It was moved and seconded to accept the draft of the Elgin Presbytery Short Term Pulpit Supply Policy and that it be forwarded to the Executive for approval. NOMINATING COMMITTEE Chairperson, Diane, reminded us we do not have one in place and need to be thinking about it for the near future. WORSHIP COMMITTEE Currently there is no committee.

Conference Youth Forum was attended by 140 teens at PWCC. Sexual Abuse Awareness Training is being offered in the conference. Good News Stories are being prepared to be shown at Conference Annual Meeting. Judith suggested PWCC Capital campaign, and Treasurer s Workshop for Elgin god news stories. It was moved and seconded to receive all reports. NEW BUSINESS Diane expressed thanks to Shedden congregation and wished Laurie O Leary and the Shedden

6 congregation as they continue to worship in Fingal Presbyterian Church. --It was moved and seconded that Joan Golden be Elgin Presbytery rep on the London Conference Nominating Committee. --Rev. Bill Vander Veeken s father has passed away. Card to be sent from presbytery. Page ELGIN PRESBYTERY REMITS 6A, 6B, 6C Rev. Jim Evans looked after the vote on the remits: Results of the vote are: 6A -YES 6B----YES 6C--- YES Results to be sent General Council Office. Diane Macpherson received letter from Huron /Perth presbytery asking for support for the nomination of Rev. Gary Clark as moderator. NEXT MEETING The next Presbytery meeting will be held June 19, 2012, full court at 6:30 p.m. Place --St. Andrew s United Church, St. Thomas Ministry Personnel and Education to meet at 4:30p.m. ADJOURNMENT It was moved to adjourn the meeting.
