2 2014 Lenten Journey: A Lutheran Way of Living Our Wednesday evening Lenten worship and study will center on the theme: A Lutheran Way of Living. A common practice in the church historically has been for new members to spend the weeks of Lent in study and preparation to formally join a congregation (prepare for Baptism, Affirmation of Baptism, or transfer of membership) on Easter Sunday. In line with this wonderful tradition, Our Savior s Lutheran will be hosting a new member class during the weeks of Lent, beginning Wednesday, March 12. HOWEVER, all members of the congregation are invited to participate in the class as well! Please RSVP to the church office via phone ( ) or (office@oslme.com), if you wish to attend our Lenten study (even if you are unable to attend every gathering, please consider attending those of which you are available). Mark your calendars for Lenten Soup Supper and Lenten Evening Worship, too! Whether new to the Our Savior s community or a lifelong member, our Lenten Journey: A Lutheran Way of Living will enhance our shared faith and life together! We will be taking photos of each of our milestone groups this year and putting them in a photo book for families to use to remember the milestones and the learning opportunities, along with love here at OSL. Photo books will be handed out along with the milestone gifts. Photos will be taken during the Sunday school hour and will be handed out at Sunday school, or mailed if not picked up. Milestone Updates A heads up to families with children in first, second, and third grades. We are starting to make the shift for first communion to be received in first grade. That means that this year we will have an extra large first communion class. Letters will be going out to families this month. First communion classes will be on March 26, and April 9 from 5:45-6:25 p.m. Our children will be receiving first communion on April 17 at our Maundy Thursday service. 7 Greetings from the Adult Library. Many thanks to those who have made donations to the library account. I am in the process of putting together a list of new books to be purchased. If anyone has suggestions that they would like to see added to the collection, please me the title and author at bjnelson7@gmail.com. We have one of the best church libraries in the area, and keeping it current is very important. The book Michal, by Jill Eileen Smith, has been in our fiction collection since early It is the first in a series called "The Wives of King David" and tells the story of King David's marriage to his first wife, the daughter of King Saul. Against a backdrop of opulent palace life, raging war, and daring desert escapes, it is an emotional roller coaster of love, loss, and personal transformation. Now the second and third books in this series will also be appearing on the shelves. The second book is Abigail, and the third is Bathsheeba. All three books are fictional accounts that stick as close as possible to Scripture in 1st and 2nd Samuel. Look for them as well-written biblical novels that will transport you back to 1000 BC and the time of God's anointed, King David. Bonnie Nelson, Adult Librarian
