Please sign up at the Welcome Center if you would be willing to share your musical talents on May 11 th Your help and consideration, please: We are trying to put some consistency to our Coffee Hour on Sunday mornings and we are looking to put together a pantry or stockpile of freezable baked goods, crackers, coffee creamers, hot chocolate, tea or any other items we could put out for the Coffee Hour when we don t have a volunteer for a Sunday. You can bring your items anytime, labeled Coffee Hour, and either put them in the freezer or on the counter in the kitchen. Getting a stockpile together does not mean we don t want you to volunteer for a Sunday we still want those who like serving in this ministry to help out by picking a Sunday to serve. In fact, we have some upcoming open dates you can sign up for. Thank you for your help with this! We are still recycling printer cartridges and cell phones - just bring them to the church office...and we will do the rest! TOTAL INCOME/EXPENSE $

NEWS FROM ZION THANK YOU... Zion Church Family - We can t express our gratitude enough for the love, prayers, gifts, meals and support we ve received over these past weeks. We have been so blessed to have each of you in our lives. Just as we have expressed to Josie, we will make sure Amelia knows just how much you all love her and have been excited to meet her. Love, The Griess Family A special THANK YOU to Marvin Richard and FLOWERS ON BROADWAY for donating the flowers for our 100th Anniversary! They were beautiful and added so much to our celebration! FESTIVAL OF HOPE Pie Shoppe The Circle of Praise will be taking pies to the Festival of Hope on Saturday, June 14th. We again are asking the ladies of the church if they would be willing to donate a pie to this event that raises funds for individuals who need help to meet financial needs due to cancer. Please sign up at the Welcome Center if you can help. Thanks so much to those willing to help. See Pat Stricker or Joyce Kautz if you have any questions. Sunday, May 25th is Memorial Sunday... when we ll honor those who have gone on before us this past year. Page 4 CIRCLE OF PRAISE: Circle of Praise met April 12 at 6 pm with 32 present. We enjoyed a carry-in meal with our hosts, Ben and Lorrine Hein, Ruth Hein, Mary Lou Fegler and Verna Schaffer. In our business meeting, we discussed the Circle of Praise helping at the Festival of Hope with the Pie Shoppe. It was mentioned that more people are needed the day of the Festival with serving the pies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In the program, Carli Rose sang several selections with the Easter theme and Ruth Hein read a short essay on "Life Begins at 80". We closed with the Lord's Prayer. Watch for the details of our May meeting in the bulletin. LADIES GUILD: Ladies Guild met April 7 with 14 ladies present. Prayer requests were given and Bridget led us in prayer. The Secretary's and Treasurer s reports were given and approved. In old business the bake sale was discussed. In new business, April 6 the ladies helped serve cookies for the baptism that was held. Discussion was also held on the Mother/Daughte Tea that will be May 5 at 7 pm. The theme is "Are You Fit for Jesus". Look for the sign up sheets at the Welcome Center. In other business, the cook stove was discussed. Note to all: if you see the knobs are on the burner dials, please remove and put on top of stove. There has been a problem with them being turned on and gas being smelled. In other business, there is a big tote of old Guild material that will be looked at and purged. Several ladies stated that they would take care of it cleaning the refrigerator. Reminder: If you have something in the refrigerator please make sure that you take it home with you or put a note on it stating that any group can use it. We closed with the Lord s Prayer. Our hosts were Lorrine Hein, Bridget Schick and Joyce Johnson. Teri Erdman Dare we set our hope and hearts in the hands of a small-town Jewish carpenter? The answer rests in the Jerusalem graveyard. If Jesus tomb is empty, then his promise is not. Max Lucado, Fearless

Page 5 NEWS FROM ZION ~ AWANA NEWS ~ Since my last article, we have only had two club meetings: March 30 th and April 6 th. The meeting on March 30 th closed out our celebration of March Madness. We had Crazy Hair and Nacho Night. There were some really creative and/or crazy hair-dos. Had I been giving out prizes, I would ve given one to Lillianna Rahmig and her mom, Amber for pulling her hair up around a water bottle. Another one would go to Emma Robbins and her mom, Ashley for turning her piggy tails into cupcakes with a cherry on top! Too cute!!! (I was glad that I got Emma s picture before game time as afterwards, her cupcakes looked like flops!!! ) The prize for the adult/leader would go to Malissa Meyer who used Easter grass and a fake bird to turn her hair into a nest. Love it!!! Then, Pastor Schick surprised us and showed up in a toupee hilarious!!! He had votes that he looked like Bill Gates and others that thought he looked like Moe from The Three Stooges. We ended our evening enjoying Nachos a very popular treat with our clubbers and leaders!!! Even though we did not have club on April 13 th and 20 th, the AWANA Staff was still hard at work as we served our Congregation Easter Breakfast between the two church services. For me, Easter Breakfast is my most favorite event that we do during the club year. I would never, however, be able to do it by myself. A HUGE THANK YOU to the Staff for their help in making this such a success whether it was setting up the tables & chairs, cutting up fruit, preparing baked goods, breakfast casseroles, biscuits or sausage gravy as well as cleaning up afterwards. May God bless you incredibly for your service/commitment!!! I am so thankful for all of you! Our last regular club night, April 27 th, will be Camp Rock Night. Art DeVos, the camp director, will be sharing with our clubbers about the happenings and opportunities available at Camp this summer. We are looking forward to hearing from him. Jamboree is our closing awards program and is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 th. Parents: please help your clubber(s) remember their shares (AWANA money ) as this will be their last opportunity to spend them. Even if you do not have children/grandchildren in the program, please know that you are invited to join us. Another reminder to parents is that although the goal is for clubbers to get through their handbooks during the club year sometimes that is just not possible. Feel free to continue to contact us during the summer to get it done. I ve been reminding the clubbers of the Swimming Party that we have in the summer for those clubbers that complete the handbook they started that club year. We usually have it at the pool at the YMCA Trails West Camp the end of July/ first part of August and as long as their handbook is done before the party, they can attend. Congratulations to our March Clubbers of the Month: Sparks Alexis Jerrell & Samuel Bowlin; T&T Hope Schanaman & Isaac Ashford and Trek Halley Schanaman. Way to finish strong, Clubbers!

NEWS FROM ZION (Continued from page 5) ~Commander Commentary~ I am not going to beat around the bush... the job of Commander is not always easy. At the end of this club year, we will be saying good-bye to the Director of Sparks Martha Stricker and the Director of Trek Randy Stricker. With our high school seniors, we just know that they will be leaving us and going away to college. But with those that we have served with down in the trenches for years, it is really tough to let them go. I have learned, though, through the years that if God is moving us on to do other things, then it isn t good to stay. So with heavy hearts, we will release them from active duty with the promise of helping out when we are short-handed. (Technically, I have two other faithful servants a director and a leader that would like to retire as well.) SO, I am putting out a plea to anyone that has been thinking about stepping out and wanting to take on a new challenge... If you have trusted in Christ as your Lord & Savior and love working with kids, please come talk to me asap!!! No experience is needed we will train you!!! I would not necessarily put you into a Director role right away, so don t let that stop you! You will NOT regret it!!! This has been one of my most rewarding jobs!!! God Is In Control!!! Cheryl Rose, Commander SUNDAY SCHOOL: Serving others - the young people of this church know the meaning of serving others. Our 100th Anniversary was a wonderful time of remembering and celebrating the history of this church, but what touched my heart more than anything is how everyone worked together, how the youth group and young people of this church came together, and set up tables with Andy. But I really saw how these kids have been taught. On Sunday, when it was all over and the tables in the ministry center needed to come down and Andy had to leave to take Janae to the hospital, those young people didn't miss a beat; they knew their job and they carried on! They went right to the Ministry Center and started working because they have been taught to serve the Lord, in Page 6 what ever they do. Good job, Andy! You are a blessing to our young people as well as everyone else. I saw these kids come together at Easter, also. I came in on a Wednesday night, and was going to stuff candy into the eggs; I felt so overwhelmed with all that candy (we were so thankful for) and all those eggs. I wondered how would I ever get it done but here came the Confirmation class. They had a little time before the class and asked, "Can we please help?" The reply was, Of course! When it was time for them to go to class, here came the Andy's young adults, "We have some time, can we help?" I loved that and when they left and I was all alone again. Here came 2 very young kids that said "We want to help." I said, Pull up a chair and the young child said to me, " I like candy, in fact I love candy; but think about it, it s just candy. He proceeded to tell me that last year he found the golden egg high up in the tree and he grabbed it. He looked behind him and there stood a much younger kid who couldn't reach it so he gave the egg to him. He said, "After all, it s just candy," and it felt better to give. Way to go Micah Schick! It was our Lord who said it is better to give than receive. This year s Easter Egg Hunt was a huge success with about 70 kids. We met in the Ministry Center because we have outgrown the chapel area where we used to meet. Andy did a neat devotion that captured the kids attention, and then the hunt was on! Thank you to EVERYONE who helped with candy, stuffing eggs and donating their time to help us. I definitely think the parents had as much fun as the kids. Serving God can be fun. Our next adventure will be Bible School. Please make sure to let us know if you can help. Happy Easter; we serve a Living Savior; praise the Lord. Sharon, Robin, Deb YOUTH - In April, our senior high youth group experienced several changes to our weekly ministries. We began studying a new book during Bible study (Galatians). We also welcomed our newly confirmed eight grade students to join us for senior high events for the remainder of the school year. Along with these changes, our senior high group that meets on Sunday night has not been able to meet for a variety of rea-

Page 7 sons in April. We did get together to watch the movie, "God's Not Dead" on Palm Sunday. We will also go as a group to an event at the Midwest Theater featuring a speaker from the Institute for Creation Research on April 27. As far as junior high students are concerned, April was a normal month. We met regularly both on Thursday nights and on Sunday mornings for Sunday School each week. The only exception was that we had no Sunday School on Palm Sunday since the 8th graders were preoccupied with their Confirmation services. In addition to regular youth group events, we also were able to take advantage of some nice weather one afternoon in April to go on a hike together. We have one more month left before summer break, so please pray that we would finish the school year with effective ministry during these final weeks. Also, please pray as I make plans for summer ministry and that we would be able to take full advantage of every opportunity this summer presents us to teach and encourage our students. Andy NEWS FROM ZION A Child s Perspective on MOMS: A group of second-graders was quizzed about what ingredients their mothers are made of. One child said, God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world, and one dab of mean. To the question What does your mom do in her spare time? one youngster said, Mothers don't do spare time. When the children were asked Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom? one child replied, God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me. Kyle Burton Keely Gloria Marlee Lupher Beau Lofink Abigail Peterson Zach Phillips Kelsea Prieels Mathieu Prieels Ryan Schwartzkopf Kaylie Smith Holly walker Congratulations to... college graduate Hilary Krantz, graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan University with High Honors receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance.
