The bags will include items appropriate for men, ladies and children. We closed our meeting with the Lord's Prayer. Teri Erdman Zion Sunday School News: I would like to dedicate this article to my dad, Gene Minch. He passed away on Oct. 13 th, I am so thankful for growing up in a Christian home, where my dad saw to it that every Sunday I went to Sunday School. My mom and dad both taught Sunday School. As I watched him the last day of his life, with my daughter standing by me, we both had the assurance of knowing where he was going when his last breath came. We couldn't imagine how people get through seeing their loved ones die without knowing that someday we will see them again. We here at Zion are so blessed to be led by Pastor Garry and Pastor Andy. I know what they are teaching our kids and I know what Awana and Sunday School are teaching: that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and if we confess, and ask Jesus into our hearts, we will live with Him forever and ever. I am so thankful for our Sunday School teachers and staff that dedicate their time to teaching what the Bible promises. We are working on the Christmas play at this time and we would like to get parts out by Nov. 1 st. Our first practice will be Nov. 30th on a Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The kids look so forward to this, and we love working with them. Thank you for all your love and support for Sunday school. Sharon, Robin, Deb
5 Page 5 NEWS FROM ZION ~ AWANA NEWS ~ We had a very full month in October and as of this writing, our biggest event - Fun Fair - has not occurred. So, I ll tell you all about it next month! Our Staff hosted an Open House for the parents of all of our clubbers on the 12 th.this gives our parents not only the opportunity to see what their children do every week at club but many of them participate with their children during game time. We had a wonderful evening with our guests!!! At the end of game time, the clubbers and their parents enjoyed rainbow sherbet with vanilla or strawberry wafer cookies or vanilla wafer cookies. The following week, we celebrated Pastor s Appreciation. The clubbers/staff wrote notes to each pastor and we gave each pastor and wife gift certificates from the Scottsbluff-Gering Chamber of Commerce. We are so thankful for the faithful prayers, support, encouragement and godly example of Pastor Garry, Bridget, Pastor Andy and Janae for our church and our AWANA Club. May God richly bless you for your service!!! We love and appreciate you! Congratulations to the following September Clubbers of the Month: Sparks Josie Griess & Hudson DeVos; T&T Emma Robbins & Sawyer Riddick and Trek Aaron Reed. Keep up the great work!!! We are proud of you!!! Operation Christmas Child is our big event coming up in November. We are looking forward to putting together special shoeboxes that we pray will be a blessing to the children that will be receiving them. Clubbers and their families can either put together a whole shoebox or donate individual items to help make up a shoebox. Thanking God He Is In Control!!! Cheryl Rose
6 NEWS FROM ZION YOUTH - By this time in the school year, with all of our youth programs up and running, it becomes difficult to know what to highlight because our weekly events don't change from week to week. What we hope to see at this point is that our students, who are participating, are consistently growing in their knowledge of what I'm teaching from the Scriptures and are more and more committed to putting what they are learning into practice. I love what I am seeing from those who are participating, and as always, I'm wishing we had more of our students who were willing to get involved. Week after week, we keep working to provide the best opportunities we can for our students to learn and be challenged to grow in faith. We don't always know which students will show up which weeks or which lessons might be especially helpful to one student or another. We simply remain faithful to the work God calls us to do and trust that he will continue to use our efforts to build his church. In October, there were a few changes to our normal schedule of youth events. I spent the first week of October on vacation - travelling to participate in Jeremiah Ourada's wedding. While I was away, we cancelled Bible study and our Sunday night prayer/fellowship meeting for the week. During my absence, the adult, college age, and high school leaders that help on Thursday nights ran our junior high outreach. I cannot thank God enough for the great group of leaders I have helping me each week. Later in October, we did take one Thursday night off because the students were out of school for parent/teacher conferences. We ended the month with a special "just for fun" event. We took a group to do miniature golf and a corn maze in eastern Wyoming on the last Saturday in October. The group of students we have who are participating regularly have such a great time together when we do things like this. What makes them great to work with is that they generally also have a great time when our focus is on learning and not on fun. Please continue to pray for the youth of our church. Pray that week by week the lessons they are hearing would be used by God to shape their lives. Pray also that those students we have who are currently not participating would find some way to get involved. Andy Page 6 MISSIONS: Greetings, Beloved of the LORD! We are so blessed to have had such a great turn out for Dewey and Betty s celebration. Friends and family of Dewey and Betty have generously given a love gift of over $ to Gideon s International Ministry in his name. Thank you all who blessed him and his ministry with your donations and cards. He was so excited that all the cards, but two, had something personally written to him on the cards. The voice of his heart sung with gratitude, joy and delight as he shared what this day and these gifts meant to him. Friendship International s Friend Singers did a variety of different Christian music songs including country gospel and contemporary songs. Donations to their ministry raised over $ plus funds from the items they sold that night. We were informed about what is going on in Eastern Europe. He shared how pastors and Christians in these areas are suffering under the severity of persecution for their faith in Christ as their LORD and Savior. The Zion s Ladies group is to be deeply thanked for their organization, generous giving of their time and all the food preparation during Dewey s and the Friendship International events. Gary Almquist, CMI General Director, visited Sunday, the 19th, about the ministry of KCMI. We raised over $ toward our local radio mission. And during the month of November, Camp Rock, Boys Ranch and Francisco desouza (FIM) and possibly Community Christian School will visit our church on different Sundays to help us learn more about how to support their ministries as they reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ Camp Rock Fall Banquet and Silent Auction will be Saturday, November 1 st 5:30 p.m. at the Gering Civic Center. You are invited to celebrate with them about what God is doing in this extraordinary place. To order tickets ($10.00), call them at or go to their website If you are unable to come, they still hope that you will consider donating towards this event in some way. All proceeds from the Fall Banquet go directly to the ministry of Camp Rock and enable them to continue offering quality programs and events to people throughout the panhandle of Nebraska in order to share with them the Gospel message. Please remember our yearly mission of Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes of gifts and a gospel booklet to needy children throughout the world. Collection week is November let s give abundantly to these children. Did you know that more than 7 million Muslims live in North America? Missions Sunday will be extended this year to Missions Sunday and Monday. On November 16 th and 17 th, Bruce and Carolyn Pinke will be our Mission s speakers. They will speak at the 8:30 & 10:30 services. They will also speak during our Sunday School time, to AWANA, and Sunday & Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. Their goal is to equip Christians us to effectively share our faith with the ever growing population in our neighborhoods, schools, colleges and politics that embrace Muslim faith, religion and lifestyle. The goal is to see multitudes of Muslims come to know Jesus Christ and be transformed by His presence and power. Please invite those in our community to this outreach program to learn how to reach our neighbors from all religious backgrounds in receive Christ into their lives as their Savior and LORD. November is a time to celebrate thankfulness. We have so much to be thankful for when we set our minds on things above and all that we have in Christ. Colossians 3:1-3. In Service to Christ, Linda Peterson
