Plan ahead and set goals
What can you plan for? I believe in goals, but I believe that the individual should set his own. Goals should always be made to a point that will make us reach and strain. Success should not necessarily be gauged by always reaching the goal set, but by progress and attainment. President Spencer W. Kimball line Spencer W. Kimball, Regional Representatives Seminar, April 3, 1975
What can you plan for? More will happen when you counsel with priesthood leaders and make definite written plans for the year Even if plans and dates change, progress will take place
What can you plan for? Classes to be held Sunday School (6 to 12 weeks) Short training sessions Intro to computers How to use different types of records How to use the internet Intro to PAF
What can you plan for? FH Fair/Conference/Open House to be held
What can you plan for? Staff meeting schedule Ward projects Getting every family registered on FamilySearch.org PAF 5.2 on each family's computer
What can you plan for? Group visits to the Family History Library Extraction projects Indexing Ward family history service projects
Questions to discuss How are we doing on our goals? How can we serve/help? Busy young families Singles
Questions to discuss Older members without computer skills Youth Auxiliaries Elders/High Priest Quorum
Questions to discuss For I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them. 1 Ne. 3:7

Example of Family History Consultant Goals In a simple statement, the difference between those committed and those who are not is the difference between the words want and will. For example, I want to pay tithing, but our funds are so limited, or I will pay my tithing. I want to go to sacrament meeting if I have time, or I will go to sacrament meeting. I would like to be a good teacher, but the children are so noisy, or I will be a good teacher. Elder Marvin J. Ashton
Example of Family History Consultant Goals To reap the full benefits of life, we must fill our days with commitment to worthy goals and principles. There is no other way. As these commitments lead us to action, we will find added growth and dimension which will guide us toward a productive life here on earth and open the door for eternal life with our Father in Heaven. Marvin J. Ashton, The Word is Commitment Conference Report, November 1983

When they gather information for their family group sheets and then participate in baptisms for their own ancestors, they receive selfvalidation of the divinity of this work. Elder Russell M.
