1 North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 July/August 2017 Newsletter PO Box NE Alder Creek Rd. Belfair, WA Phone:( Fax: (360) Jul/Aug 2017 Notes: Eagles View 4226 Website: wwww.northmasoneagles4226.com Worthy President Jeffrey Kundinger July 17th 20th Grand Convention August 19th Hot August Nights Upcoming you don t want to miss September 9th Scholarship Auction Inside this Madam Presidents Msg Cooks Corner 3 New Members 4 Membership Drawing 5 The Club 6 Officers and Activities 7 Contact Information 8 May Calendar 9 June Calendar 10 2 We recently completed a visit to Yakima for the State Convention and helped with the installation of one of our own auxiliary members WA State Madam President Kat Noldan. It was a lot of work by everyone from our Aerie and Auxiliary. Congratulations Kat. Thanks to all of the Eagle members who attended to show respect for our brother Acie Maxwell who recently passed. The Coast Guard Color Guard provided a fitting start and end to the memorial ceremony. Acie will truly be missed by many. We recently attempted to conduct a cleanup of the Aerie with a only a few (1.1%) Aerie and Auxiliary members participated. It would be great if each member would donate just an hour a month toward the betterment of our organization. My charity this year will be Olympic College Veteran's Training program. The college provides scholarship money to help train and retrain veterans so they can stand on their own. I believe this is a very worthwhile endeavor. Don t forget the upcoming Hot August Nights which is a free car show and membership drive. Bring a friend or neighbor to visit and join our organization. Worthy President Jeffrey Kundinger
2 North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 July/August 2017 Newsletter Page 2 Madam President Marleen Bianchi It s the beginning of the new regime! Our new fiscal year with new officers are at the helm! Let s have a great year! We appreciate all of our volunteers who do so much, however, we can all use a break at one time or another. We are always searching for more volunteers with fresh new ideas. All are welcome. Remember, this is a volunteer organization, without our volunteers we will not enjoy the meals and activities we have come to enjoy. Our big Father s Day Breakfast was a huge success with over 80 meals served. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make it a success. It was a very busy day but reports are that all the volunteers had fun preparing and serving the meal. Thank you, Thank you. June 24 was the Annual Clean Up Day at The Club. Eleven members showed up, with tools in hand, to pitch in and help make our club a clean and comfortable place, a place we can all be proud of. Thank you so much to each and all, I don t want to mention names here for fear of leaving anyone out. You know who you are and you are much appreciated. Not everything was totally done but it was a great start. July 7 is Madame President s Rib Dinner, due to a previous engagement I will not be able to attend and assistance will be needed to make sure the dinner goes well. If interested please contact one of the Auxiliary Officers or leave a note for me with the bartender. This will be the last Rib Dinner, future dinners will be Chicken Fried Steak Dinner. Coming events are Hot August Nights on 8/19. The theme will be Beach Party. The Aerie will provide hot dogs/hamburgers, please bring your favorite dish for the pot luck. In September we will hold our annual Scholarship Auction. There will be items donated by several local vendors and businesses, if you have anything to donate for the auction it would be greatly appreciated. The North Mason Eagles supports local high school students each year with a scholarship for college, this event is the primary fundraiser for that fund. Last year we were able to provide $1, scholarships for three North Mason High School students. It s very rewarding to support our local young people. I m looking forward to the coming year and fulfilling my Madam President duties to the best of my ability. We are going to get great things done. Madam President, Marlene Bianchi Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing. Some people judge a book by it s cover because they don t want to take time to read it. A day without bread is a long day indeed.
3 North Mason Eagles Aerie #4226 July/August 2017 Newsletter Page 3 Grandma s Rhubarb Pie Filling INGREDIENTS: 4 cups rhubarb 1 cup sugar 2 Tbls butter 2 Tbls flour DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Combine sugar and flour. Sprinkle 1/4 of it over pastry in pie plate. Heap rhubarb over this mixture. Sprinkle with remaining sugar and flour. Dot with small pieces of butter. Cover with top crust. Place pie on lowest rack in oven. Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue baking for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold. INGREDIENTS: Vi s Never Fail Pie Crust In large bowl Mix: 4 cups flour 1 tbsp sugar 2 tsp salt 1 ¾ cups shortening (I use Crisco Butter Flavored) Mix dry ingredients and cut shortening in with fork or pastry knife In separate bowl mix: ½ cup water 1 egg 1 tbsp lemon juice DIRECTIONS: Make a well in dry mix. Put wet mixture into well and mix with fork until moistened. Form into ball with hands. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 15 minutes. Roll dough out with rolling pin to desired size and follow direction on pie recipe. Note: I roll the crust out between two sheets of plastic wrap instead of with flour on a board and it works great. Makes putting in pans so much easier. Less cleanup, too. - Will keep in refrigerator for up to three days. If you find that this crust receipt fails please let me know what you did. I have never had this receipt be anything but near perfect. Enjoy During WWII, U.S. airplanes were armed with belts of bullets which they would shoot during dogfights and on strafing runs. These belts were folded into the wing compartments that fed their machine guns. These belts measure 27 feet and contained hundreds of rounds of bullets. Often times, the pilots would return from their missions having expended all of their bullets on various targets. They would say, I gave them the whole nine yards, meaning they used up all of their ammunition

Early aircraft's throttles had a ball on the end of it, in order to go full throttle the pilot had to push the throttle all the way forward into the wall of the instrument panel. Hence "balls to the wall" for going very fast. And now you know the rest of the story.
