And when they learned how the Mekane Yesus Church is working c o o p e r a ti v e l y w i t h M u s l i m s a n d t h e Orthodox Church on social issues, they celebrated Christ, our peace. M e m b e r s o f Covenant Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, Tennessee, celebrate Christ, our peace, when year after year they v o l u n t e e r a t a n d contribute to a rural school nearby where 90 percent of the students are on subsidized meals. Whenever we open our hearts and lives by building relationships with one another or by caring for God s creation, we celebrate Christ. This year we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Peacemaking: The Believers Calling, the statement adopted by the 192nd General assembly (1980) of the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. that affirmed the centrality of peacemaking to the gospel message and to our lives as Christians. There is a rumor that a Haunted Room might be happening upstairs in the youth area, also. Copied from the World Communion Sunday pamphlet in the September 19th bulletin. World Communion Sunday is the day that we receive the Peace Making Offering for the Presbyterian Church (USA). There are four offerings we take each year. 1) One Great Hour of Sharing; 2) Pentecost; 3) Peacemaking; 4) Christmas Joy. These offerings are dedicated to particular areas of mission within our denomination. They are not a part of our regular budget, but we encourage you to participate and give generously. Special offering envelopes have been provided. PLEASE READ The newsletter for November will be a bit late as the editor is taking a weeks vacation at the end of October. Some of the most popular used a half hour video, followed by discussion. We have a DVD on the old and new testament available if anyone would facilitate. Group facilitation would involve setting up the DVD player and putting it away. It may also involve coffee and donuts if the participants so choose. 3 VOLUME XL N O. 9 Page 3 Women s Fellowship Bible Study Women's Fellowship Bible Study will continue to meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Eighteen people have signed up for the study group. Any interested women is welcome to join - not just members of the congregation. However, this study focus is on the history and context of the book of Revelation. We will not be discussing interpretation of the book.. Submitted by: Jody Iaderosa Session and Deacons are looking into Steven s M i n i s t r i e s a s a n enhancement to our pastoral leadership of the church. Two trainers and several members of the congregation would be trained to help with crisis situations members may face. Glenda Leigh presented a report on Steven s Ministries at our meeting, and we are looking forward to having an experienced representative educate us all on this program that will compliment the care of our members. Glenda Leigh will attend each session meeting as a representative from Deacons to ensure communications are kept up to date. P e rs o n nel c om mi t tee conducted employee review meetings with the lawn care person and janitor. No changes were recommended. Deron Beck gave an enthusiastic and exciting report on the upcoming year youth group activities. He has help, good ideas, and increased attendance. As usual we are in need of donations to fill our boxes and bags not only for the holidays, but for every monthly distribution. Since we are not associated with the Idaho Food Bank, we do not get any help from them with our giving. We are a local community food bank, and are always grateful for all donations, including the volunteers and their hours of hard work. If any of you have extra produce from your gardens, we can use any you wish to donate. Here is our wish list: Mac & Cheese Raman Noodles Boxes of Stuffing Canned Fruit Turkeys (if you wish to donate for both holiday boxes) The holiday pick-up dates are: 11/15 3-6pm 12/20 3-6pm Worship Committee Updates The Worship Committee met at Karen Cornwell s home for a great outdoor luncheon with lots of conversation and ideas of what we can do to improve our worship services. We discussed changing a few things in our worship service, such as adding a Worship Host to help our pulpit supply folks out every Sunday. If you have any comments or ideas, please see Karen or Barb. The Association will again sponsor a quilt raffle this fall, which is one of the two major fund raisers for the ladies.

If you The 17 ladies who attended the Women s Association Luncheon enjoyed a meal together followed by a business meeting. The Association will again sponsor a quilt raffle this fall, which is one of the two major fund raisers for the ladies.. Two quilts that were owned by Nelle Leigh have been donated, and one of those will be the raffle quilt. Jenny Brown will be in charge of distributing quilt tickets. Ladies, be ready to sell, sell, sell! The quilt drawing will take place at the stewardship meeting in the fall. The Halloween Carnival has been scheduled for Saturday evening, October 30, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, in the Community House. The Women s Association is in charge of the CUPCAKE walk. They have requested that the ladies furnish cupcakes instead of cakes this year, so plan to bake a few batches of cupcakes for us. If you would like to help in the cupcake walk booth, please call Glenda ( ). The Horizons Bible Study on the book of Revelation began on Tuesday, September 12 led by Jody Iaderosa. An interesting and informative video was shown followed by thought provoking questions and discussion. If you did not attend, it s not too late to join. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month: October 12, November 9, December 14, etc. The October meeting will be on Lesson 2 in the Horizons Study Guide. Call Jody Iaderosa if you need a Study Guide booklet. The Fall Women s Gathering will be held at the Homedale Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 23, 9:30 to 2:00. The theme is Who Is My Neighbor, and lunch will be provided for $5. If you plan to attend, call Glenda so that carpooling can be arranged. Our Officers: have them, please return, Thank You! Letter from the Deacons According to our Presbyterian Church, Book Of Order, all ministry in the Church is a gift from Jesus Christ. Members and officers alike serve mutually under the mandate of Christ who is the chief minister of all. His ministry is the basis of all ministries; the standard for all offices is the pattern of the one who came not to be served but to serve. (Matt. 20:28) The office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. It is the duty of deacons, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith. We, as your current year Board of Deacons, want to be available to you in any way we can. The best way for us to know what we can do for you is for you or have someone you know, contact one of us so we can be there.
