2 The Gospel According to Greg Greg Taylor A big thank you goes out to Dr. Tom Ewald, recently retired from Lincoln Christian University, for sharing with us during both services on Sunday. His message The Christian Family an Exercise in Grace is one I will not soon forget. As I have previously shared, Tom is one of my favorite preachers and I believe one of the very best in the Restoration Movement and I am so thankful for his willingness to share. Tom and Jan Ewald have meant so much to the Taylor family over the years, and I never grow tired hearing Tom preach. Speaking of Lincoln, I m also excited to announce we have scheduled Dr. Bob Lowery from LCU for the month of November during the Bible School hour he will lead us in a four week study of 1 Thessalonians. If you don t normally attend a Bible school class, then this would be an excellent opportunity to visit. I m so thankful for the rich resources nearby LCU provides. This Sunday is, of course, the final Sunday in May, and marks the end of our five special Sundays this month. This week brings our annual Remembrance Sunday when Kent Hickerson will read the names of loved ones lost during the past twelve months. This Sunday always brings a good number of visitors and let me just encourage you in the Lord to be extra outreach sensitive. You may be wondering, What does this mean? Allow me to elaborate: - Make sure the comments you share are sensitive, along the lines of welcome to our church, or thanks for worshipping with us today. - Avoid attempts to be funny, such as where in the world have you been, or it s been so long since you ve been at church you might have to get baptized again. I love a good laugh like anyone, but these comments many times sting and end up keeping others from wanting to worship at FCC again. - Also understand that it is possible someone might be sitting in the pew where you typically land please don t ask them to move, just find another pew and praise the Lord others are worshipping at FCC. - Above all, follow the advice of Peter in 1 Peter 1:22 love one another deeply from the heart. Sunday will also bring promotion Sunday for our Bible school classes, and one of our missionaries we support church planter Chad Halbach from Wyoming will be with us during both services for a brief update, and then will make a full presentation in the fellowship hall during the Bible school hour. And don t forget June 6 for two very important reasons. First, we launch our summer long series entitled Summer in the Son the 13 most important teachings of Jesus. You will not want to miss this three month look at the teachings of Jesus. And also on June 6, we will have congregational meetings at the conclusion of each service to affirm the calling of Jim Coonce as our first ever full-time Minister of Worship (see more about the Coonce family elsewhere in the K), and also to affirm Arik Heinrich, Jim Taylor and John Wise for three year terms as Elders at FCC. Before moving to Jacksonville he served for 14 years as Worship Minister with the First Christian Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Jim received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Music from Lincoln Christian University (then Lincoln Christian College) and received a Masters of Arts in Worship Studies from Lincoln in Jim and his wife, Stephanie, have been married for 18 years. They have three sons, Ethan, age 16, Aidan, age 10, and Isaiah, age 8. They all enjoy being outdoors, making trips to Chicago to see musicals, going to museums, plus going to baseball games on the south side White Sox. For enjoyment, Jim likes to read, work with technology, play golf and cook. Stephanie works in the Jacksonville school district working one-on-one with children with autism. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, reading and scrapbooking. Jim and Stephanie are excited about the prospect of ministering here at First Christian Church in Clinton and getting acquainted with our church family.
