2 The Gospel According to Greg Greg Taylor Easter week is here the most important week of the year for Christ followers. On the front of the K we have listed the many worship opportunities for you this week. While much of the focus of the week will be on Resurrection Sunday and rightfully so Friday is also a very important day of remembrance and thanksgiving. In that vein, I ve included a timeline of events of Good Friday can I invite you to remember everything Jesus endured as you go about your day on Friday? Timeline of Jesus on Good Friday: 1:30 am 7:30 am 6 different trials before various leaders the first three trials were before Jewish religious leaders, the final three before Pilate and Herod. trial 1 before the former high priest Annas trial 2 before Caiaphas, the current high priest trial 3 before all the Jewish leaders trial 4 before Pilate trial 5 before Herod trial 6 before Pilate 8:30 am Jesus taken from final trial before Pilate, where the mockery and torture at the hands of Pilate s Roman soldiers commence it was during this time that a crown of thorns was driven into his skull. 9 am Jesus carries his own cross toward Calvary and the actual crucifixion takes place during this hour (the third hour). As the nails are driven into his hands and feet and they begin the process of placing this huge piece of wood in the ground, a sign is placed above Jesus head THE KING OF THE JEWS. According to Luke, sometime before noon Jesus said Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. It was also during this first three hours on the cross that Jesus told one of the two criminals hanging with him I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.
3 The Gospel According to Greg (cont d) 12:00 noon the final three hours on the cross begin around noon (the 6th hour) three hours of agonizing pain and suffering it is during this time according to Mark that darkness comes over the whole land for three hours in the middle of the day. It was during his time on the cross that Jesus shared with his mother Mary and his disciple John these words: Dear woman, here is your son... (John), here is your mother. 3 pm At the ninth hour, Jesus was near death, and just prior to breathing his last breath, he uttered I am thirsty (John); my God, my God why have you forsaken me (Matthew); Father, into your hands I commit my spirit (Luke) and finally, It is finished. (John) At the moment of His death, Matthew records the following: at that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life... when the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happening, they were terrified and exclaimed surely he was the Son of God! Surely He was and IS the Son of God! Late afternoon and into the evening, Joseph of Arimathea and the Pharisee Nicodemus ask for the body of Jesus, and are given permission to bury Him. Jesus is buried in a new tomb where no one had ever been laid in a garden near the crucifixion sight. I pray this Friday is a day of worship for you. As you experience this day, please remember the words of that beautiful hymn: Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin had left a crimson stain He washed it white as snow. Blessings, Greg P.S. Please keep FCC staff member Leslie Gwozdz in your prayers as she serves in Kenya with COPE. Leslie is schedule to return to the United States on April 15.

5 Young at Heart David Buck, Coordinator A kind of change that can open the door to strife occurs during those times when God is dealing with us. When the Lord is dealing with us on the inside, He intends to bring change on the outside. These changes are designed to bring progress, and Satan will always fight progress. God changes us in ever -increasing degrees of glory. Good-humor makes all things tolerable. Henry Ward Beecher Our April meeting has been changed to Wednesday, April 11th. We ll be rewarded by the presence of Marcia Wise blessing us with her talents. We all smile when she sings and give thanks for her talents. It will be a very great day of her music. Next on our schedule will be the talented Bob and Marsha Grider from Indiana singing and entertaining us. We had a very nice trip to Starved Rock with Roger Dial driving us safely to and from. We still need drivers for the White Pine State Park Trip on the 12th of April, and the Big Band Trip to Moline in May. The June trip will be to Sullivan Little Theater featuring a stage play of Grease. The Beef House is still our trip in the month of July. He liked people; therefore people liked him. Mark Twain If you choose strife, you will suffer and end in defeat. Why not choose peace, which may provoke suffering in the flesh but also lead to victory? If you are suffering because of strife, it will only lead to more suffering and greater problems. Why not choose to suffer in a godly way, knowing it will lead to glory? Let peace have the deciding vote in the choices you make. FCC Apparel The Jr. and Sr. High Mission trip students are taking orders for long and short sleeved polo shirts, jackets, long and short sleeved t-shirts or hooded sweatshirts with the FCC logo stitched on them. You can check out the shirts and cost on Sunday mornings in the foyer. Payment must be received with the order. Orders must be in by May 6th. All proceeds go to our Jr. High and Sr. High summer mission trips.

11 Worship 101 Holy Week Services Jim Coonce Last year we introduced a special service, the Maundy Thursday service, where we focused on the Last Supper and the events leading up to His arrest. This year, we are taking a somewhat different turn with our Maundy Thursday service. We will use this opportunity to observe what is called a Tenebrae service. Tenebrae is a Latin word that means shadows or darkness. This service finds its origin in the Catholic tradition. However, many congregations of various denominations have adopted the use of this meaningful service. There are many variations, but the general idea is that the service emphasizes Christ entering a dark world and being a light to that darkness. We will follow his birth and life to the point of his death, remembering the dark time that follows His last words, It is finished. One person wrote, The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. This is a solemn and very moving service that vividly paints a portrait of Christ s eternal impact on the world. On Friday, we are offering a special noontime Good Friday service. This service will last approximately minutes and will focus on the six hours of the crucifixion. This will feature readings from The Story, a book that consolidates the various passages of scripture in the Bible into a novel-like story. We hope you will attend some or all of these services, as well as the community Good Friday service at the Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. We especially encourage you to bring your friends and family to our Easter celebration services on Sunday at our regular services times!
